Weight Loss for Dummies

I use the egg whites that come in a carton in the refrigerated section of the store (you can get the southwestern flavored kind that is colored yellow. I have a problem with white egg whites; psychologically, it helps me if the egg whites are yellow).

I fry the veggies (onions, mushroom, peppers) and set them aside. Then I pour out the measured amount of egg whites into a frying pan coated with pam, cook it a smidge, add the fried veggies, cook it a little more and then plate. I don’t fold over.

I hid a ziploc bag of homemade blonde brownies that a friend made for a dinner party. I didn’t want my husband to eat all of them and I knew he would. Problem is, NOW I"M EATING ALL OF THEM! Somebody give me the strength to throw them away. (OMG, they’re so good. She actually toasts pecans and adds them to the batter.)

DH and I had egg white omelets for dinner tonight. It’s our “go to” meal when nothing else is planned. Had fruit on the side topped with fat free yogurt and granola. We went for a walk afterwards.

EPTR… walk to to the trash can and throw the brownies away immediately!

^^^I’m thinking about it…

EPTR- I hate wasting food, can you freeze them? Makes it harder to eat on impulse?

Happy to report weight loss 17.2 pounds to date. Big drop this week, 2.8 pounds. Eating the same as I have been but my exercising must be really making the difference. I don’t enjoy running but have been adding a few minutes at the end of my walk.

Looking in the mirror I see" me " again and not the slug I had become. Probably 10 more pounds to go. Goal for my bmi to be in the normal range.

Congrats Gibson on this week’s loss…I lost weight (50 lbs) by walking a lot and doing exercises in front of my tv in the family room. Now that I’m trying to maintain my weight, I’ve started jogging two or three times a week and walking other days. I have always hated running in the past but am finding I kind of enjoy it now that I’m not so heavy (and bought an mp3 player so I have good music to keep me going).

I would just have to trash the brownies. It’s so much easier if you just keep foods on hand that you can eat without guilt or remorse than to stare down sweets/carby snacks every time you open the pantry door and feel like you’re denying yourself.

I vote for breaking the brownies into bite size portions and freezing them. Then if the urge gets too strong, take out one bite, microwave, and nibble it slowly. I think that knowing one can still have have a teeny tiny treat helps one feel less deprived and encourages the good eating in turn.

Theme song for the day “I’m back in the saddle again…”

Way to go, Gibson!!

I let my stomach tell my mouth that stuff like brownies actually tastes bad after 3-4 bites.

I try to let my brain tell my stomach and mouth that 1/4 of a chocolate chip cookie eaten very slooooowly in nibbles is really the same as a whole cookie. Sometimes it works…

I am with Marilyn. Break them into little bits. ONE per day.

Has anyone tried the Adora dark chocolate calcium supplements?? I love them. Gosh, that’s sick when your thrill for the day is your calcium supplement.

I haven’t walked for two weeks but I have managed to keep my weight within 2 pounds of my target weight. With the crazy life I have been living, I am pretty pleased with myself. Maintenance is NOT easy.

workinprogress- So glad you are back. Hope your parents are doing well.
Day 2 of back on track. I would have to throw the brownies out. They would be calling my name. Or I would freeze a few and toss the rest. They sound absolutely delicious.

I try to let my brain tell my stomach that’s it’s full and it doesn’t even WANT a blonde brownie with toasted pecans but my stomach is so freakin opinionated and argumentative! I think I should trick it and tell it it really does want a brownie and then my stomach will say NO just to be ornery.

Thanks mom60 - parents are holding their own (sorta of) but my new gig is helping a couple who have never had kids and always regarded me as their daughter. It has been a VERY interesting month.

I will NOT give up my wine - weight or not weight.

I gave up wine a few months ago and GAINED two pounds. Clearly I needed to increase m intake.

Thank goodness I don’t like the taste of alcohol. Now if I just didn’t like the taste of Blue Bunny frozen yogurt so much.

Many wines are fairly low-carb, so if you gave up wine and perhaps replaced it with something else, you might be right that you should increase your intake :)

Great job on weight loss, gibson. And good luck with your goal…it’s my goal also! I’m 10 pounds from high normal BMI…my maintain weight is another 10 pounds from there.

Mainelonghorn; sorry to hear about your sons and glad that all is stable now.

My weight has plateaued…actually who am I kidding…it started going up. After having lost 30lbs, I relaxed too much and even though I kept with the treadmill 6 days a week, something stopped working…so thanks to the poster who mentioned couch to 5k…started on Monday and feel energised. As the saying goes, you can’t expect a different result if you keep doing the same thing or words to that effect! So now am doing the couch program m,w and f and plan my regular treadmill workout the other 3 days.

Day 3 of healthy eating. Now I need to add exercise back into my daily routine.
