Weight Loss for Dummies

Getting us back on page 1.

and…I will walk today, I will walk today…

Great weigh in today…all the vacation weight has disappeared, surprisingly. I wonder if new fat is easier to get rid of than old fat…

But then I donated blood this week–I expect my body to replace all that blood, so I suppose I have to be ready for a gain in upcoming weeks, LOL.

I also had a great weigh in today. I am back down to where I was before my eating spree. I think some of it was real weight gain but a lot of it must have been water weight. I had 4 great days of sticking to healthy eating. Hope I can keep it up.

My weight today was the same as last week which was a relief because I ate out a lot. I have been tracking calories on Myplate but the eating out thing is tough. Tomorrow is dinner in the North End and Sunday is a retirement brunch. Yikes

Hello I lurk here I have to say I am inspired by yourhonesty and determination.

I wonder how many pounds have been lost, in total, by the posters on this thread since we started it?

Why don’t you join us Downtoearth? We can always use more Dummies :)

Literally tons, I’m sure, EPTR!

For now I’m going to stay off this thread because… I need to gain a pound or two back, and I do not want to demoralize the weight loss troops. :D

I reached the five pound mark although I’m not sure what the scale will say tomorrow. My BMI dropped to a lower category. At this point I really want to hold onto this loss and then lose a little more. The next month will be tough because we have to travel to visit colleges and travel is hard. I’ll try to get walking in but it will be eating out, etc. plus the stress of deciding about college. So the goal is to be good up until departure and to be careful while traveling. Eye on the prize, want to lose more for graduation photos.

Oh!!! BunsenBurner!!! That hurts!!!

Keep it up mimk6. You’re like me. Not a ton of weight to lose but in order to do it I have to limit my calories to under 1400 a day. It’s tough to do and the eating out blows it every time. I feel your pain.

Just checking in to say that I haven’t been checking in because I’ve stalled within the same pound for about 3 weeks now - boo. I know I’m eating a bit more than before we went to California so will have to be more careful and get in that extra walking even if it isn’t on a beach.

H is away. I find it easier to stay on track when he is home. He is extremely disciplined about how much and what he eats and exercise.he can be annoying! When he is away I can pick up dinner which is always more calories then cooking at home. Fries instead of salad! Not good. I am hoping to use this thread to keep me accountable this week.
Also as I am now at a healthy weight I am less motivated to stick with exercise and low carb. I watch the scale and do not want to put any weight back on but would be thrilled to lose 10 to 15 more lbs.

I’m sure that many here could provide a few suggestions.

Tasty ones at that.

My wife gets annoyed because she cooks stuff and then I don’t eat it or I grumble a bit about it. It often means that I need to keep my own stuff around in case she makes something that isn’t compatible with what I am trying to do.

H will eat what I cook, but I don’t cook much. When he cooks, he’ll tell me what he has in mind. If it is something that really doesn’t fit in with the program, I’ll tell him that I’ll cook for myself that night.

His grilled cheese sandwiches are heavenly, but two pieces of bread fried in butter with 2 pieces of melted cheese between them? Definitely NOT on the program…

These days I think of cheese as recreation, not a meal:). Too hard to eat enough to satiate without eating 3 days worth of calories.

BunsenBurner on the other thread needs to gain a pound or two.

At least cheese is low carb.

Too bad about the bread…

A thread about how to gain weight–we’ll probably start one here on CC when we are in our 80s. I’ve noticed that a lot of senior citizens just can’t get excited about food and eating.

^^ As you age, you lose taste buds. The sweet ones are the last to go. That’s why so many seniors have a sweet tooth but can take or leave real food.

I’ll have to ask my mother about this. She still seems to enjoy some particular things in her diet - notably coffee. I don’t think that she has a sweet tooth - but she’s a big stickler for Whole Foods products.
