Yes, IMO dieting, per se,should be a way of life, not a punitive thing. I love carbs. Can cut back, but not out.
And hi estcoastcrazy!! Welcome!

Welcome to the new dummies!

Weighing in:
lost the beach pound and 2 more. Total weight loss since Jan 6: 22 pounds. BMI 25.5. Few pounds more till " normal bmi"

I am keeping my cals to the recommended intake on livestrong about 1300. BUT, I have really upped the exercise. In Jan I was walking about 30 mins a day and a weekly yoga glass. Slowly I have increased this. I am now at Curves 4 times a week ( 40 mins) , a zumba class, yoga class and I walk briskly 6 days for 45mins.

I work part time ( very) and have only 1 kid at home. I have the time to commit to this amount of exercising. I head to curves first thing, come home shower and go to the office. I walk in the afternoons sometime between 3 and 5. Not sure how that is going to work as the temp increases in the summer. May switch to walking in the evening.

Goal 8 more pounds by June 22( fly home to the UK) I am really feeling good with the exercise and I am pledging to keep going even when I reach the magic number.

I love carbs too, but for now I am cutting them out! Struggled at first but it is OK now. I just add another veg instead of the pasta etc

My first WW group disbanded, so I missed a week before I could find a new one that worked with my schedule. I didn’t track my food, so I was worried I would gain. But I didn’t! I lost another 1.6 pounds, so my total weight loss is 12.0 pounds since February 21 (8 weeks). I still have 10 pounds to go to get to a BMI of 25.

This will be the third week in a row I have exercised Monday through Friday. I ran 31 minutes straight on Monday. I still have a LONG way to go to get back to my fitness level of a couple of years ago. One day at a time! Another WW member gave me a good saying to remember: “Persistence, not perfection!”

Exactly! That’s because as you lose weight, your calorie level to maintain that weight decreases…so if you’ll have to lose 500-1000 calories from that lower threshold…which means that you’ll have to increase the exercise or eat fewer calories. After a while, you really can’t eat fewer calories and still have a healthy diet, so you really need to amp the exercise portion (or have a goal to lose less weight per week).

jym–re cutting back 1,000 a day–it’s not just accomplished with food, but exercising chews up calories also. I am not talking about starvation diets here, trust me!

Went for a 3 mile walk/run (90% walk) and then a sushi dinner. Will see if the knees handled it-

Wow–welcome new people, and congrats to those on the great weight loss–you are very inspirational already.

Doesn’t menopause blow? What do you mean I can’t just cut out a glass of wine and the bread and lose weight while I peruse college confidential on my laptop???!!

I hate exercise, but have found all kinds of walking routes, with purpose, to the post office the long way, to the market for an onion etc. I definitely do better if I walk and gab with a friend or have a destination in mind. That and the Fage 0 calorie yogurt with honey, and a daily nonfat latter, are keeping me going.

I need to lose the remaining 10.5 lbs by June 21 for a vacation in Scotland (and all the tea and crumpets I can handle).

SJTH- i fly home to Scotland on the 22nd! Its the fish suppers and iron bru I am worried about!

Well I hit the 25 pound mark today. Maybe that colonoscopy did some good after all! Or maybe you burn more calories gardening than walking.

congrats mathmom. 25 lbs is a big milestone.

Congratulations, mathmom! Extreme gardening might become the new way to exercise…

Definitely! Gardening engages more muscle groups than walking, especially if gardening involves moving dirt.

For all of you who tracks how many calories certain daily activities burn… here is a page from my favorite webcomic:

[xkcd: Oversight](xkcd: Oversight)

(:runs out of the room giggling and hides: )

well I have popped in from time to time, but am now completely commited to losing weight.
I have shared in the past that when I joined CC I got diagnosed with breast cancer.
for the third time. I did not do well with the chemo and lost 80 pounds, however it wasnt all fat , and I lost my muscle mass, hence my metabolism. (which wasnt great to begin with) I maintained but then once food started to appeal to me, I started to gain weight. also on two drugs that cause weight gain. Even though my calorie intake was pretty low. so i started in November with a trainer. I have slowly increased my activity through strength training, cardio, and once a week yoga. I have been seeing a nutritionist because all the diet /food ideas confused me. I am trying to eat low glycemic, and antiinflammatory.
Well my low point was dress shopping for a nephews wedding, not so nice. and since I had the pleasure of clothes fitting, I WANT THAT BACK. It is really fun.
I am not eating white carbs. but will eat brown rice, quinoa, and oatmeal. i lost 2 pounds so far. its a start… i want to lose 25-30 pounds. am hoping for 10 pounds by june but any progress would be great.
My trainer thought i wasnt eating enough, but from here I see people eat about 1200 calories to lose weight. is that about right? anyway gotta go to the gym, but you guys inspire me.

BB naught naughty LOL

Love, xkcd. That’s an oldie but goodie.

welcome, downtoearth, and  BB :o

Welll, sorry to redirect the …ahem… conversation, but I broke my plateau and lost a pound.

Oh now I’m depressed.

P.S. to BB–thanks for the laugh!

That’s good news Jym!

I’m finding out that the upside to a sinus infection is loss of appetite. I’m down about two pounds this week.

DTE, nice to “see” you–we’ve perused some of the same threads over the years. Glad you’re healthy and…welcome! Jym, yay–good work!

at the gym I had an issue. I became very nauseated and almost passed out, my BP was low and pulse thready. I went to the doc today and he doesnt think its a cardiac issur but a low BP issue and to increase my fluids and salt until my blood work and holter monitor. Ths happened when I started working out but thougt it was becasue i was so deconditioned. It has been hot out and I am older . Anyway. I think I dropped to much fluids as I lost 4 pounds this week.
congrats on all the losses, and de plateauing. I am glad to see some ross thread posters!!!

Friday weigh in resulted in a .3 pound gain. But I didn’t exercise as religiously as I usually do this week…I cleaned bathrooms instead of biking. Note to self: you burn a lot more calories biking…

So I closed the door on last week and am starting this week with a clean slate.
