Weight Loss for Dummies

Absolutely just keep on going. basically you stayed the same.

Congrats Jym!

Well thanks, everyone, but I found the pound again. And another one :frowning:
Be careful, downtoearth!

Oh my! Doesn’t it just make you crazy! I lose one, I gain one. Up and down. Makes me crazy.

Downtoearth, how are you feeling? Be sure to stay hydrated especially as the weather gets warmer.

jym, EPTR - tell me about it! Up, down, up, down - I’m getting to know these two pounds very well, they come and go so often!

On a positive note, I went through my closets and cleared out two large bags of clothes - mostly pants and skirts, some dresses. Some of them were real stalwarts that I wore more times than I can remember. DH seems to think that I should be able to get stuff tailored, but I figure spending $20-30 apiece to get inexpensive garments to fit just isn’t worth it. My biggest question is what to do with tops - I have a bunch of them that do fit but are loose. They’re not swimmingly loose, just lots of extra under the arms. They don’t look too bad unless I lift my arms and you can see all the material. Certainly good enough to wear around the house, but how many of them do I really need! Thanks to that other thread, I’m spending too much time looking at my flabby upper arms, although a vast improvement over fat upper arms, IMHO.

add me to the up,down, up, down and now up again group. 4 lbs that keep coming and going. I know I need to get back on the exercise track.
I just looked at the flabby arm thread. Going to pull the weights back out.
I went to Costco yesterday and they have the great Kirkland brand capri exercise pants back in stock. They look almost identical to the one’s sold at Lululemon. Under 20 bucks. They run a bit large. I can wear a small and I am not a small. They are reversible and I find the solid side is slimming. Plus very comfortable. At least at my Costco they sell out quickly.

DTE–your low blood pressure stint has me worried!

Marilyn–I’m all for not keeping anything too big in the closet (unless it has sentimental value). Someone has to keep the US economy humming…it’s all of us on this thread who have lost weight and now have to buy new wardrobes!

Our country needs us!!

ellemenope I am with you girl! Bought some new capris at Chico’s this afternoon- the so slimming style that is being advertised on TV. happy to report they are a size 1 ( 8/10)

downtoearth- please update us on how you are doing. We are all worried about you.

Jym-I ignore the gains and only track the losses. You can easily go up a pound and then it is gone the next day or 2.

I have been at this for over a year now. At first, I was steadily dropping weight. Now that I’m in maintenance mode, I do the gain a couple/lose a couple all the time. Sometimes I’ll be the same exact weight for a couple of weeks and then it jumps up. Then goes back down. I’m up a pound and a half right now and it’s so annoying. Glad the weather is warming up. Need to get back to outdoor exercise every day. I try to run three times a week but don’t always get in a walk on the off days.

We sold our house (closing this Thurs) and moved last weekend. I cleaned out all the “too big” clothes and either gave them to friends who could use them or donated them.

Damn you, peanut butter. I love you so much, yet you are a million calories…

SJTH, measure it out. One tablespoon of peanut butter is about 90 calories. If you spread it on a (50 calorie) slice of whole wheat bread and add a dollop of Smuckers sugar-free fruit preserves (5 calories). You end up with a yummy sandwich for 145 calories. Add some carrot sticks/celery/cucumber slices and and 80 calorie fat-free yogurt with a few berries and you have a tasty lunch for around 250 total calories.

Also check the sodium content of your peanut butter. The name brand I used to buy had 160 mg of sodium/serving.
The organic brand I buy now has 60 mg/serving.

For a snack I often have 1/2 a banana with about a tsp of peanut butter. It’s really not that bad caloriewise and it’s very satisfying.

When your bananas start getting old and a little too soft, don’t throw them away.
Freeze them. Peel them and wrap them in aluminum foil and freeze.
You can pull them out and just cut off a small chunk at the time…great little snack. They cut easily.
You can also cut off a chunk and then chop it into small pieces to drop into a cup of yogurt. Just cut off what you need, rewrap the banana in the same foil and pop it back in the freezer. It’s like eating a banana popsicle…so good.

I haven’t had real peanut butter in a while, since I found this:

[Walden Farms Whipped Peanut Spread | Diabetic Food: Low Carb Sauce](<a href=“Healthy Foods & Snacks for Diabetics - Stock Your Pantry!”>Healthy Foods & Snacks for Diabetics - Stock Your Pantry!)

Today, I made a half a sandwich with this “whipped peanut spread” and sugar free orange marmalade. It was wonderful!

Congrats, packmom!! That is exciting!

I am stuck again. Been generally within a 1/2 - 1 lb of the same weight for 3 weeks. Calorie consumption, with a few off days, has been generally in the 900-1200 range. My knees are feeling better so I guess its time to step up the activity level.

This morning I made a banana/yogurt/almond butter smoothie. It was wonderful!

Almond butter is so better than peanut butter. :p

Thank you, all. I was just venting, after measuring out my tablespoon of delicious Trader Joes organic peanut butter. Longing for the teen days, when I would have a heaping TBS of it before dance team practice. While I thoroughly am enjoying my 50’s, I really long for those carefree eating days…and effortless waistline!

ellemenope–the whipped peanut butter spread has no sugar, ok, no carbs, ok…but no fat and especially, no protein? What’s the point? I submit that REAL peanut butter is better for you than the bread you used to make the sandwich from this fake stuff.

Unless you spread it on celery or apple slices?

I don’t post often (yet) but have taken many of the suggestions here. I’ve lost 13 lbs this past month.

Thank you everyone!!!

Still at goal weight!
