Weight Loss for Dummies

You are funny, snowflake. Scientific results help me, too. Just realize that it usually takes at least a week of that type of eating before the fat burning/ketosis starts (you have glucose and glycogen in storage to burn off first for now).

Anyway, I can get pretty addicted to sweets, and also suspect I need to lose more weight than the rest of you here do, so that is why I am lo-carbing. I need to get results to motivate me to keep going!
Yes, transitioning to adding back carbs and finding a maintenance type of diet at some point will have to happen, and it may be hard for me. But that will be the next step in my relatively long and tough journey.

Frankly, it is amazing given my lifestyle that I am that overweight, so I had to do something pretty drastic to create weight loss.
In fact, I may have to eat like a Type 2 diabetic for the rest of my life to keep from actually getting Type 2 diabetes/gaining weight… But I will figure that out after I lose much more, and get fitter with exercise. Maybe then I will be able to tolerate somewhat higher amounts of high glycemic foods…
Yes, everyone is different.
I have never ever been an over-eater. And have usually been quite the exerciser, too! The problem has been WHAT I eat, I have had to conclude- even if it has been the same as what others eat without gaining. So that is what I am changing to make a change, as they say. I am actually heartily grateful that I have finally found something that causes me to lose weight!

I am glad you all have found ways to do that, too!

Is anyone else having trouble with the Livestrong website this morning? The weight graph won’t display, nor will the BMI index graph, and when I try to click on the “customer support” link under “contact us” to report this and ask for help, nothing happens. Help??

No problems with LiveStrong for me.

weight graph still wont display.
Will you plsase send a message to customer support that some customers are having trouble with their graphics? The link to the customer support wont work either. Thanks!

I’ve got the same problem as jym…but the portions of MyPlate that I use daily seem to be working fine. I think I’ll just let it sit until I weigh in officially later in the week.

Let me know if/when yours clears up, ellemenope. Mine is still not showing the graph. Does your link to the “contact us” work?

No, the contact us feature doesn’t live up to its promise…

Thanks for confirming, ellemenope.
BCeagle, can you send them a message to advise that ther eis a problem with their website? Thanks

Do you have to pay to use the Livestrong site? I did the JillianMichaels website several years ago and it worked great in terms of tracking my specific food/carbs/protein/exercise but I only paid to use that site until I got myself under control.

And to Performersmom … dipstick result this morning was dark pinkish/purpley, so was clearly half way up the scale. Could 36 hours of strict reduction have already kicked me into ketosis? I was eating lots of fruit / sugars prior to starting this.

I’m drinking water like a wackaloon… or at least people are sure I am a wackaloon when they see me stop by the restroom multiple times throughout the day.

Its working again (the weight graph) so they must have fixed their glitch.

Livestrong is free, but if you want the app for your phone it costs $2.99. I downloaded the free “livestring light” app, but it doesnt interface with the fullo/online program, so if I enter something on my phone I have to re-enter it on line. And all it does is send me an annoying reminder at 6 pm that I havent posted my food intake for the day (because I’ve done it on line). The only reason I keep the “light” one on my phone is so that I can track what I eat if I am out somewhere.

Sonds good, snowflake! That IS fast, but ketones in your system means you are now burning some fat.

wackaloon: please refer to Parents of HS 2012 thread for FULL definition!

Water water everywhere and drinking every drop! A must for those in ketosis. Initial phase of ketosis can result in fatigue, headaches and nausea as the body pushes out wastes and gets used to low glucose. You need a little time to switch to using ketones for fuel. For details, check out the NEW Atkins Book.

Now, for those who are afraid of eating FAT: you NEED some fat to clear the gallbladder. Also fat will not make you fat UNLESS you are consuming too many calories. SUGAR and EXCESS GLUCOSE (from an overly large meal) and ALCOHOL make you fat! These stimulate insulin, the storage hormone.

Performersmom … thanks. I’ve now adopted you as my weight loss mentor because you explain to me the science of it. :)

I eat non-fat yogurt not because of the fat content but because the sugar content sky rockets when you go from the non-fat to the low fat version.

I simply prefer a low fat diet. I try to keep fat intake to 20-25gms. When in that range (though I think its ok to eat up to 40gms per the diet) I lose weight. This is based on the T factor diet, but regardless, its just how I eat. And I am disgustingly healthy- all my labwork is always remarkably good. Have another physical coming up so will report back with this years levels. Biggest goal is to get my Vit D and Calcium levels up (I take supplements) to avoid having to go back on meds for osteopenia. I’d like to lose these last 10 lbs. Hopefully I can do it.

That seems fast! Obviously, snowflake is a fat-losing MACHINE…

You girls are funny!

Weighing in:
wight loss to date 26.6 pounds . BMI 24.84 - Now in normal range!!!

The 3 softball tournament pounds disappeared over Mon/Tues. Down 1.1 from last Wed.

My goal was 30 pounds by the end of the year, 3.4 pounds to go. Though I have dropped a lot of inches round the middle, don’t think 3 more pounds is going to get me where I want to be.

Having fun rediscovering my wardrobe and the pile to go to Goodwill is getting larger.

^My friend lost quite a bit of weight and had to get a new wardrobe so she had fun discovering consignment shops & thrift shops. New motto: If you like it, buy it! It’s only 5 dollars!!

:)

I know a number of you ladies love Livestrong, but I am a huge Myfitnesspal.com fam–their mobile app is free, and I find it really easy to use. Just an alternative!

I’m off to Kohl’s today with my 30% off coupon to pick up new undergarments. Not something to buy at Goodwill! I’m down a cup size and have “shopped” the bottom of my lingerie drawer but as with the support here, need more support there.

Otherwise am still just bouncing around the same weight. Every few weeks I bounce around one pound less. At least eventually I go down teeny bit by teeny bit.

LMNOP … I don’t know if I am a fat losing machine or not, but I don’t like looking at the jiggly bits that weren’t here 3 years ago!

Day 3 and I am definitely not liking the strange feeling if this is called ketosis. Last night while watching The Voice I just broke down and ate 4 Paul Newman ginger cookies (they look like tan oreos) … I felt like I wouldn’t be able to sleep without some carbs. Don’t ask me why I didn’t think to eat an apple … just realized today that I could have eaten an apple but didn’t. Oh well … no glass of wine for 3 days now … that is probably where the calories were sneaking in the most in the evenings.
