I had the bestest meal for mother’s day. But I think it’s going to take a while to recover from it!

Started with duck confit, goat cheese pizza. I only ate about half the crust.
Followed by four raviolis stuffed with butternut squash, topped with four scallops, a small half lobster on the side, and more brown butter with sage than was probably good for me. It was a great combination of flavors though, that I need to try at home. I’ll skip the raviolis and cut back the butter.

I am seeing a remarkably consistent parallel between my calorie intake and weight on the livestrong graph. The good news is that I am down 11 lbs with 8 - 8.5 to go. The bad news is that we leave for DS’s graduation tomorrow and will be dealing with lots of meals for 4 days in a town known for great food. I will try to be reasonable but will allow myself to enjoy the weekend.

The bad news- I decided to go bathing suit shopping yesterday and to see how the 2 piece tankinis would look. What the heck was I thinking?!?!?! That was a wholly unpleasant experience. I will stick with my one piece suits that hold me in in all the right places.

Marilyn- I will await the wii fit instruvctions. I don’t even know how to turn the thing on!

We have been traveling for three weekends in a row. We ate out several times over the weekend…not even great food…just road food. Ten hours in the car over three days with too much sodium packed food = weight gain of 1.5 pounds even though I ran three miles on Saturday and ate a healthy salad for lunch on Sunday.
I been eating better the past two days…ran three miles yesterday…down .5 lb. today.
Road trips kill me.

I’m on the hunt for a swimsuit too. Been wearing the skirted kind for years and thought I might try something different this year. Haven’t found the perfect one yet.

and it looks good. Available in diff bra sizes. I am tall but the regular fits great!

Weighing in:
weight loss; 28.1 pounds down 1.5 from last Wed.

For those fluctuating, I stopped recording my weight daily and just track the downward trend. On a Wed calculate my diff over the week. My weight can jump up over a couple of pounds at the weekend but then settles ( literally down ) mid week.

Someone asked last week what diet I was following, nothing radical. Eat healthier and EXCERCISE. I truly belief that is the key.

Jym - have fun at your sons graduation. You can get back on track next week.

mathmom - your mothers day treat sounds delicious. My d1 is studying abroad, so this is the first time we have not celebrated together. We usually go to brunch at a local restaurant. I suggested that d2 and H make me brunch instead. Smoked salmon fratatta
( ?? spelling). It was yummy! We headed to a local arts festival which was unfortunately rained out with a horrendous down pour.

Back to a better routine for me. I have always known that I am more likely to exercise in the AM than in the afternoon or evening. I walk five days a week in the AM - occasionally in the afternoon on the weekends, but essentially I am a morning walker. I have resolved to do more weight-lifting and Pilates, so I am getting up earlier and alternating the two.

I realized that on the days I had appointments with my folks, I was just too emotionally wiped out to start weights or do anything. I don’t mean to sound dramatic, but sometimes when I get home I will just plop down on the bed for just a few minutes - only to discover that I have fallen sound asleep.

I have been a lot more successful going to bed earlier and getting up earlier. More than a little stiff when I start Pilates - but at least I am doing it!

I suppose the thing to remember is that when you hit your desired weight, life is one long plateau. These skills are useful? Um, trying to find a bright side?

Ah, the wisdom of a gal living in Northern California!!

SJTH - if you stick with whatever you are doing, I think you will eventually have a little drop. We have all experienced those plateaus. I have surmised that what happens is that you have reached a point where your intake isn’t much lower than your caloric output, so it takes much longer to actually lose a pound. But I also think it is like the articles you see about just eating one more cookie per day and how you unwittingly gain 5 pounds or something like that in a year.

Hang in there, be honest with yourself, and as the weather gets nicer and you are moving around more - the weight will come off.

The little things do count. When I was in a plateau I switched my grande latte to a tall ( now I don’t notice the difference and I save some $$$), I stopped getting help with my groceries to the car at Publix and I walked faster!!!

The secret to a fabulous looking bathing suit is fabulous looking coverups! We live in a lake community and I spend everyday in a bathing suit (tankini is my choice because I simply hate the taking a whole suit off to go to the potty). I have a great wardrobe of matching swimsuit coverups and cute shorts. If I decide to go in the water…(which is seldom), I can ditch the coverups and have a nice comfy suit.

My weight is up one pound this week. I knew my week away would show up…eventually. I suppose the two pieces of lasagna AND the two pieces of pie yesterday might have contributed to my blip. Back ON the wagon!!

thumper1–I have never been comfortable in a bathing suit all day! When we were in Cancun, I wore one (under clothes) for convenience while sightseeing and thought I was going to die of heatstroke! The one-piece nylon just holds in the heat.

I am in the water a lot. Our house is on a river and in the summer we’re out boating, kayaking, canoeing all the time. Last year I had a two piece suit…skirted bottom w/ regular bikini type top. I found I disliked the top. The big knot/bow tied behind my neck and in the middle of my back was annoying and painful when I leaned back in the boat seat.

I really like the racer backs. The Athleta line looks very interesting.[Women’s Swimwear | Athleta - Free Shipping on $50](Athleta)
I like the boy leg option. Has anybody tried one? Saw them online but ordering a swimsuit online seems pretty risky since I usually try on about 50 suits in the store before I buy one!

Back down to my lowest weight again this am thank goodness. I really did splurge too - dinner out Friday at a restaurant that has cheese and chocolate fondue, then in between you cook your own entree on a hot rock with salt. Fun! I was finishing off the chocolate in my hotel room for the next two days. Saturday morning we went to the Original Pancake House for our favorite 49-er Flapjacks - finished the whole plate. Then Sunday we went to a hotel brunch where I sampled a lot of stuff but didn’t eat large quantities of anything. Except the bottomless mimosas.

Then at DS’s apartment I taught him how to make homemade pesto and pizza sauce but again used good portion control. I’m not quite plateauing because I do eventually go down a pound every few weeks and bounce around the new weight, then another pound and bounce, etc. Not as exciting as the 5 pounds a month in the first six months but as long as I keep making progress I’m satisfied. Especially since I know I’m not being quite as circumspect.

I’m fitting into a couple of old suits but will probably go shopping in June for one new one - I think I’ve earned it! I have had a couple of boy leg suits and really like them better than the skirted ones. Covers that top of thigh bulge. I would never ever buy a swimsuit online - just too many factors that could be an issue! I have to see how they work on my body.

Thanks Ladies–I’m trying to stay strong. Hoping if I can just get a nudge in the right direction, it will become a groundswell!

I am a huge Athleta clothing fan–they have some really cute skorts I like for hot weather too. Not-your-mother’s-skorts, really cute fashionable ones. I have big thighs, so shorter shorts look awful on me–skorts/skirts MUCH better.

Weekly weigh-in: down 2.6 lb.
I am down about 18 in 2 months, I guess.
A few things are a little baggy, but no one has commented on the loss yet- proof that I still have a lot more to lose!
I am trying to look well for an event June 22… After that, I might have a little carb party for one day. But I will have to get right back on the wagon after that! It will be harder for me over the summer- the kids will be home, and I have to be around all their naughty delights…

I’m a ‘regular lurker’ on this thread. I’ve found it helpful during the last seven weeks as I’ve been dieting in anticipation of a family cruise in June. I’m down 18lbs with 4.5 to go!

I finally decided to chime in when someone mentioned one of my favorite stores, Athleta. I’m a big fan. If you like their styles you might also want to try Titlenine. I haven’t tried their bathing suits, but have two of their skorts and love them! I also have several of their dresses.

PackMom–I thought boylegs would be perfect but didnt like the way they looked either. I’m pretty slim but unless you have really SKINNY legs/butt I don’t think this is a good option.

I may just break down and get a skirted suit this summer! I don’t think anyone wants to see my aging thighs… LOL

I liked the look of the Athleta clothing. How convenient that an ad for the website is so prominently displayed on this CC page…I’m going to click on it!

Just came back from a 4 day trip to MN…ate at 3 restaurants!

Congrats to those of you hitting some great cumulative weight loss number … 18 pounds? Whoa!

I’m a big Athleta fan but I’m short (5’3") and haven’t found their skorts to the be right length for my shortness, but I do like their catalogs and clothes. Titlenine is great too, but I think both those stores have clothes for me 10-20 years ago when I was a runner and never thought about weight.

I’m back on my fat burning wagon. I’ve been reading the new Atkins book to learn more about the how’s and why’s of fat loss and realized that last week, even though I was likely burning fat, I probably went overboard on protein and even veggies. I didn’t realize that you can eat too much of a good thing! This week I started out Monday counting everything and logging it so I could see more specifically what I was eating and realized by 2pm Monday I was almost at my limit of carbs. By Wednesday I logged enough to realize that even my homemade salad with ham as the protein was huge, so on Thursday I downsized it to an appropriate size, and also made sure to eat a healthly snack around 2-3pm so I wouldn’t gorge on dinner.

This morning it seems I’m back to fat burning, and I honestly feel some strange heat in my fattest areas … I’m going to research that to see if that is an imagined sensation or something real if you’re really burning fat. Either that, or I’m finally starting the beginnings of hot flashes that my friends talk about!
