That last pesky 0.8 pounds is gone! Goal weight achieved.

For maintenance, I’ve decided to up calorie intake by 250 calories and to continue keeping track of food and exercise on My Plate. I do NOT want to have to go through this again!

"My trick with burgers - take off half the bun and eat it open face. That way you get all the protein and half the carbs. "
-I do not eat bun at all. Waste of calories. You can double up / triple up or whatever on all veggies (lettuse, tomato, pickles, an my favorite - ton of onions and eat it with ton of horseradish or better yet - wasabi. Bun is just a waste of calories and has no taste, plainly junk food and even supposedly “whole grain” do not have much of whole grain and in addition it is not a good idea to combine meat with this kind of carbs as they require completely different digestive process.
In terms of weight, it is always balance of (intake minus used) energy. So, if balance is negative, use lose, if positive, you gain, if zero, you stay the same. I can loose easily while eating junk food. I can gain easily while exercising rigorously for 2 hours every day. Done it many times (every year at all inclusive, it is a crime to give up all the wonderfull food, drinks, ice cream and desrts).

I have returned from a mini vacation totally recommitted to eating healthy foods, exercising and maintaining my weight. I went to a girls’ weekend at the Jersey Shore with three cousins who are just a little older than me. We had a great time and I love them dearly. They have not, however, been concerned about exercising or being mindful of what they eat. Even when they are “dieting” they have no clue about what is healthy and what isn’t. They are all easily 40 - 60 pounds heavier than me. One has already had one knee replacement and still has trouble walking, the other has been told she needs both knees replaced, and the third has serious problems with her hips. In terms of stamina, agility, etc., they are at least 10 years older than me. NO, that’s not true. My mom who is 82 has more stamina, agility, etc. than they do. Their mothers, my paternal aunts, didn’t need knee replacements and they both lived beyond 85. My aunts were not heavy and I have to believe that my cousins’ health issues are directly related to their weight and lack of exercise.

I realized that my idea of what constitutes a normal portion is much different from theirs. I did not feel like I was depriving myself of anything this weekend. I had lots of good food and plenty of snacks as well. I know they think I was starving myself, but honestly I just didn’t want as much as they were eating.

I don’t want to sound smug or judgmental. It was actually very sad to see how these wonderful women had aged so much by gaining weight. Now maybe I will drop over tomorrow with a stroke - but in whatever time I have on this earth I want to be as agile and active as possible.

So, hang in there everyone. You WILL feel better if you stick with your plans!

Seems like couple donuts yesterday helped me to lose another pound. When I consume junk food, somehow it kills my hunger and I forget to have a lunch for awhile. But on the other hand, I have rollerbladed 6.5 miles and swam 1.5 mile in very cold water both Sat. + Sun. and they say that sometime the weight comes off later. I have no idea, but summer is here to enjoy! I got to lose 6lbs more at least, but I have no plans to skip b-day treats at work for that.

Graduation weekend is upon me and then our family graduation party the following weekend … I am officially not tracking food or lbs for the next 1.5 weeks as I’ll be happy to have enough food and beds and activities for everyone that will travel. Hopefully the activity will at least keep me on par with where I’m at now. I’ll check back in at end of month.

We have B-day week, one day break - yesterday, the others have been very delicious and nutricious donuts. Will see next Monday, as weekend is also full of various heavy eating events with much more food than just couple or so dunuts.

Simple reality is that if calories burned exceeds calories consumed, one will lose weight. Now if someone is losing weight for no reason and is consuming a lot of high fat or high sugar items, perhaps they are diabetic and dont know it.

I lost another 1.9 pounds this week, for a total of 19.2 pounds - almost exactly 10% of my starting weight of 191.2 pounds. Another 3 pounds to go to get to a BMI of 25 (although I’m not stopping there).

ellemenope, I needed to read your success story today! Know that you have done massively good things for your health and longevity.

Am trying to figure out how to lose the final 37 (am down 64 to date) and get to a normal BMI – while doing cardio rehab. This would get me back to college weight, which is just unfathomable to me.

And if anyone needs a reminder why this stuff is important – age 51, five stents, massive MI, a week in the deep freeze and a passel of cardiologists who didn’t think I’d make it through the first night. No warning signs. Had climbed Masada and tromped all over Europe two weeks prior. Had been walking and eating sensibly for over a year before all this happened. Good thing, too – probably made the difference.

Congrats MaineLonghorn, LMNOP and everyone else! So impressive!!

Anyone have a suggestion for light exercise? I will walk, and just got my bike tuned, but the gym treadmill aggravated my knees and the elliptical was just too boring for words. Thoughts?

I am back to my previous low, but still have 8 lbs to go. Have birthday coming up too, but will try not to overdo it. No need to, especially since the best gift would be the weight loss.
