Do they tell you that they’re taking a low-carb approach or is it just encoded into the points system? My guess is that the average person will have a negative response if you tell them that low carbs is the way to lose weight. That was my view up until this past March. It takes a lot of convincing to change a belief held for many decades.

In my case, I’m just managing my weight in a 5 pound range. By last week I was up at the top. Now I’m down 2.5 pounds to the middle of the range. Would be nice to take off 2 more and bump along the bottom. The bottom of my range, BTW, puts me at 5 pounds more than I weighed in college, but I’m really not going to do anything about that except remember my pre-childbearing waistline with a tinge of wonder.

More important around here is keeping up my physical activity, which tends to lapse and leave me sitting on the couch, writing, for days upon end. Last two days I got in a 40 minutes brisk walk. Today I’m targeting yoga. Thank you all for the gentle support this thread provides.

Alum- In my patchwork of jobs, there are times when I am primarily working from my home and writing. You would think that moving around would provide some relief, but it is funny how content one can become writing and thinking!

Absolutely, zm! I’m doing my 10-15 min of free weights 3 times a week, then some planks and pushups to spice up the routines. I think it was instrumental in taking the unneeded weight off of my upper body and toning up the arms.

I’m happy with that if it’s real, and not just normal fluctuation. I think that the reduction in Coke consumption is enough to account for an actual half-pound weight loss.

Great news, idad, wdaveo, Dougbetsy, mathmom (staying stable is better than going up!)!!

zm, I agree that weight training is very important, and I actually enjoy it when I’m in the habit (machines). I had already made plans to get back to the gym this evening, when S2 is at a friend’s house and I have a free evening.

Shake Weight, baby! And I’m going to mow the lawns instead of yoga. I’m thinking of patenting that exercise method. Advanced classes include tree-staking.

I just started a week ago, so don’t be impressed. I do…
Saturday upper body (+ 60 min cardio)
Sunday lower body (+ 60 min cardio)
Tuesday full body (+ 30 min cardio)
Thursday full body (+ 30 min cardio)

This was the schedule that I found best fits my work week and the trainer’s advice to avoid consecutive days with the same muscles.

I was on a weight training hiatus for awhile, but I have been back to my old routine.

The great thing is that it really doesn’t take very long.

I also do free weights about three times a week. I have a bench press, a curl bar, some dumbbells, and a lat pull down in my basement. No gym fees and I can wear whatever I want. We bought the stuff about 25 years ago at York barbell - nothing fancy that’s for sure.

1825? That’s nothing. The importance of word rhyming in weight loss is attested as far back as the 4th century BC, when the Greek philosopher Lardo (Plato’s lesser-known brother) lamented that his love for pomegranates was his downfall due to his inability to come with a word in Greek that rhymed with it. He regularly sacrificed to the goddess Caloria praying for relief from his weight gain, but to no avail.

Weight training…yes…a few years ago I was WAY into lifting (my then-130 lb female body could bench press 135…no more) and have been trying to get back into it. TIME has been the issue, but I have some ideas. Hoping to get going again soon. Cardio, got plenty of that (I’m actually a group fitness instructor)

So…on this lower the carb thing…you all are saying, that I can go on down to the store, buy some whipping cream, sweeten it with something like splenda, whip it up and put it on my fresh picked strawberries? Please say yes…

Wow, I can barely keep up here. In fact, I’m behind today but will catch up.

Tracking my carbs yesterday I don’t eat as many as I thought (fewer than 150). Of course, I was conscious of every morsel so I think that’s a false positive. Dh had surgery today so my bad news was buying a Diet Coke to stay awake at the surgery center. However, it was my first this week so I’m pretty happy about that. And, despite the blazing sun I got in a short walk with the dog when I got home from the surgery. And, I’m about to mow the lawn. Much good here. :D

Just leave out the splenda, you’ll get plenty of sweet from the strawberries.

Berry parfaits have been our go-to desserts for special occasions (Easter, DS b’day, MIL who is GlutenFree b’day, etc) since I started this low-carb trial in mid-April (down 11.5lbs). Sometimes I add mascarpone to the whipping cream for a little more texture
