Weight Loss for Dummies

Congrats, CD!!

The down side of weight loss, has any one talked about them?

My job involves long hours of sitting. W/o extra fat, the old chair feel hard now. New chair with a good cushion ordered for both home and office.

This is a thread for POSITIVE thoughts and well wishes.

I know what you mean, Dad II. Long plane rides aren’t as comfortable as they once were, lol!

Airplane cushions are terribly uncomfortable. Back in the day when they used to hand out those little pillows, I’d take one to sit on!

Speaking of… purchasing a seat cushion has to be more affordable than buying a new home desk chair if one is counting one’s pennies. Am guessing the company will be paying for a new one at work. Nice deal if one can get it.

Now, back to positive thoughts.

I’ve been seriously violating the weight management lately. Back on track tomorrow.

Ambitious goals, Snowflake!

Lessgo, Dummies! Today is the re-start day!

Just returned from the land of lobsters and blueberries and didn’t even take the hikes I’d planned on so am now afraid of the scale. I would like to join you in this re-start. I’m guessing I’m up a few lbs, maybe as much as 5. Heavy sigh.

Official first day of school for my youngest, so I’m ready to start on a better plan of attack with maintenance. Saving all of my calories for dinner (which I do by nature) is NOT healthy, or optimal for metabolism. I’m going to have to figure something out.

Lobsters and blueberries totally sound worth a couple of vacations lbs. I gave myself grace for a few lbs on our cruise this summer. Not worrying about it made it so much more enjoyable. I gained 2.5 and dropped it easily w/i a week of regular eating. I’m sure you’ll drop back down quickly Puzzled. Heavy rationing on holidays where there is great cuisine takes all the adventure and fun out of it IMHO. :)

Weighed in today and was up .7 from the wedding weekend, not as much as I feared but I had been slightly up before we left so am back into overweight. My current goal is to get back to normal by my birthday in 12 days.

I will try rereading this article about cravings every day: [Saying ‘I don’t’ to unhealthful cravings - Daily Pilot](http://www.dailypilot.com/topic/la-he-cravings-20120721,0,2362597.story). It was in Sunday’s tribune and explains the biological basis for various cravings and what we can do to overcome them. Essentially it says to do a mind reset from “I can’t” eat certain foods to “I don’t” eat them. No real surprises for all of us, but some good reminders. I’m having trouble with “I don’t eat more than tiny portions” of the cravings. Will power needs serious reinforcing!

DadII,
down side of weight loss- a girlfriend had dream I was having an affair with a fictitious hot neighborhood dad, she was pretty mad at me. Told me it must be because I have lost a lot of weight…

Had another friend that I don’t see very regularly, give me a very worried look and ask if everything was ok with my health. I have lost weight, but not to that extent. I guess it is a reality check that I am reaching the age when my peers have breast cancer and other awful cancers.

Marilyn- I would love to see pics of you in that stunning dress, that is exactly the type of dress I would pick.Glad the wedding was fun!

I let go a bit over the weekend, returning to my old habits of eating. And boy, did I suffer. My stomach was so upset, it was not pretty. Happy and resolved to stick to my new way of eating, it is just not worth it!

I will start running again as soon as the overnight low is below 80.
Mostlly I love where I live, but summers just wear me out.

SJTH-
AM there with ya!!
I did some damage to the weight with my break, but am back on track. Gained 3 lbs :frowning:
So now I have 5 to go to get to goal.

Thanks blueiguana, you are right. I’m not really beating myself up over my vacation splurges, just feeling pudgy and sad that summer is ending. I faced the scale after I chimed in yesterday and the damage is more like 3 lbs so I’m sure I can lose that fairly quickly. I have no more trips planned until the end of November so plenty of time to get back on track. Trying to look at the bright side, it is handy to come back to an empty refrigerator and stock it with only healthy foods. And back to Pilates this morning so that will help. My goal is to be back where I belong by the end of September.

Jym, I did a little more damage than you in my hiatus, BUT am happy to report re-start Tuesday was a success. Exercised, stayed under calorie goal, no w(h)ine weekdays began and I was so productive it was, frankly, nauseating.

BUT I cleaned my closet and there are some things in there that will look a lot better - or fit- when I reach my goal. I’m at about 10 lbs at this point, I think.

Lets support each other, people! (but I would’ve gone for that Lobster too!!)

Practically ate 1/2 a watermelon yesterday ( a small one).
Thinking of how I can make a padded bench to do my leg exercises without having to go downstairs ( I have a piano bench in the living room, but it needs a good pad)

My D has been here for a few days, so I’ve bought a lot more food than I usually have. She things we should join a CSA.

I’d like you to know that it wasn’t just lobster, I also ate lobster risotto, twice!! And blueberry pie, and popovers, and finally, on the return flight, when the stewardess asked if I wanted a sundae, I said “What the hell!”

What airline was this? I want to go there!

Only the sundae was on the plane emeraldkity. We were upgraded to 1st class on United and while most of the food was grim, the vanilla ice cream with both caramel and chocolate sauce, plus nuts was divine. Probably because I only ever eat fake “yogurt blend” at home and have tricked myself into thinking it’s delicious. All that other good stuff was in Maine and we cooked it ourselves. The risotto recipe is from the NY Times and is quite simply the best dish I know how to make. I would post it for you but this probably isn’t the place since we’re all full of resolve and good intentions.

Sounds amazing and totally worth the 3lbs IMO Puzzled! btw, I would have been all over that caramel/chocolate sundae! :)
