I put it on my arm so that the open end of the clear pocket that you slip the iPod in faces the top of my arm as opposed to the bottom (IF it could jiggle out) but it is actually in very tightly.

Well, I am making a public announcement (which means I have to follow through).

Last year I had a stress fracture that was made a lot worse by my own stupidity. It took a long time to heal and I decided that between my crazy life and wanting to avoid another injury I wasn’t going to enter anymore races. I have changed my mind, I am going to prepare for an event in December that will serve as a qualifier for the 2013 Senior Games in Cleveland. Not exactly couch to 5K, but similar, because although I won’t be running, the distance is the same. There is also a second event, a 1500, that I will enter as well.

Yesterday I did a baseline 1500 meter and I was bummed with my time, but I just have to focus on improving. I am not worried about qualifying as my time yesterday was well below the limit, but if I go to Nationals I want to have a shot at a medal. I was lucky in 2011, the two best women in my age group weren’t there and so I was first, but I am going to have to do some serious (but smart) training to get in competitive shape again.

Using the My Plate religiously and enjoy it. Walking the dog every day from 40-60 minutes and using my Total Gym, which I love. Talking it easy and adding things little by little. Tomorrow is my “official” weekly weigh in but I’ve lost 5.8 lbs so far this week after a previous week of losing nothing. I weigh every day so I don’t subject myself to discouragement and to keep my weight loss efforts first and foremost. Have a good week everyone!

Good luck, worknprogress! As a former runner I know that I can’t even think about any running without losing a few more pounds. It’s too much on my knees. I look forward to entering races again myself!

Thanks so much abasket. I guess I was vaguely aware that things like this exist, but being an inveterate couch potato, I just am not at all up on exercise accessories. (I do remember the Sony Walkman, however!)

Ray rah worknprogress! And congrats to bungalowdweller. I think this time of year is perfect for starting up an outdoor exercise plan.

Are you all having as busy a week as me? I have to say this schedule is great for the diet, but…

I’m working about half time (20 hours-ish) at my volunteer job. We just rented our house-that-isn’t-selling, requiring all the cleaning, paperwork, phone calls etc. you would imagine, AND took my mom to get a kitten (her two cats died around a month ago) and the kitten now isn’t doing well…we’ll be returning it to the Humane Society today and, pretty please, getting another adorable HEALTHY one. S3’s roommate dropped out of college in the third week of freshman year, and S3 is doing…okay… but is requiring therapy by text message.

But I’ve dropped a few lbs this week. So much for the “empty nest” syndrome–I’ve never been busier!

I just needed to type this–no need for comment, lol.

I’m on an “old ladies” (senior) tennis doubles team and our team is going to the Sectional playoffs this weekend. We won our Friday match and I am scheduled to play in our Saturday match. So I have been playing a lot of tennis this week…and not doing much else on the exercise front for fear of injuring myself.

Walking in a breast cancer awareness walk this morning with d2’s high school softball team. So proud of these girls for giving back to the community.

Happy to report still maintaining. Though i think I am ready to try and loose a couple of pounds more.

Good luck and good for you to the tennis players/charity walkers! I’m sitting in a hotel room visiting DS#2. Took yesterday off of exercise (eight hours in the car) and didn’t do too badly food-wise given I was going to cut myself a little slack this weekend. (Actually did fine except for the chocolate pretzel frenzy I found myself in late last night. Oops.) I lugged my laptop up here just to do a little P90X today. Only the stretching routine, but I’ll feel proud of myself for not writing off the whole weekend.

“Chocolate pretzel frenzy” paints a hilarious word picture, MyLB. :)

My occasional stumbling block is the boxes of little fruit-filled pastry puffs that are sold at a couple of our local supermarkets. I guess there are things that are worse, but not by much.

Nevertheless, I have managed to keep my weight steady during a very stressful year. I’m hoping to start losing again soon. It would be so great to get rid of the last 20 pounds, after having lost about 60.

I managed to stay pretty much even after DS’s visit home for my birthday. including multiple meals out and skipping my morning Wii Fit a few times. Whew! Glad I got oatmeal at the breakfast place instead of the banana macadamia nut pancakes. Now I’m getting lots of exercise painting the guest room, including moving tons of small furniture around.

I keep thinking someday I’ll start losing again - I could live with this weight, but would love to go another 10 pounds. Or even finally reach that elusive 50th pound - keep coming thisclose and backing off.

FYI, MyLB–it takes a couple of days after you return from a trip where you sat for a long time in a car or a plane to get back to your “real” weight. Don’t be surprised if your weight is up the first few days after you return from your trip. It goes away…

Keep up the good work, NJTM! If you’ve managed to keep your weight steady during a stressful year, just imagine what you can do when halcyon waters abound.

Marilyn–what is it about those “round number” elusive last pounds?! I think it has to be a psychological thing.

My partner and I won our doubles match! I displayed flashes of brilliance in a sea of mediocrity, but my partner (who plays in the 75s) was brilliant throughout. We won the first set 6-0 and had to come from behind to win the second set 7-5.

Our team has won 2 matches and needs to win one more on Sunday morning to win our flight. If we win our flight, we play the winner of the other flight for the opportunity to go to Nationals. I won’t be playing unless someone gets hurt or tired…but I’ll have my shoes and racquet at the ready, just in case.

Well, we won our flight and I DID get to play in the finals. Another woman and I played and we got spanked 6-1, 6-1. We got a few licks in but were otherwise pummeled by a much better team. :(

Our team lost 2 out of 3 of our matches, the deciding one in a third set tie breaker, 12-10. So no Nationals for us…more time for CC.

Headed out for a walk right now. The heck with all this paperwork I need to do! It won’t get done even if I don’t walk. can’t pass up this beautiful fall day in PA.

I could just never live on the calories most of you seem to live on. I don’t gain weight. I’m 5’5" and weigh about 123. I eat about 2300 calories per day. I don’t exercise all day. I do keep fairly fit.

I’m puzzled. Are there really different rates of metabolism?
