Peaceful mom, come and out as you please and as you have something to say/share! No rules! Sometimes we post daily, sometimes individual people don’t post for a few weeks. But I’d say we all READ the posts when they come up and are here to support each other through the good and not so good!

Okay–checking back in after a few days in Disney World (HOORAY!!). Lots of food and drink but also lots of walking. I will get back on the treadmill today, but might have to give myself another day or two of eating whatever I want. Still technically “on vacation,” so calories don’t count, right? ;)

Last night I noticed what an absolutely Pavlovian response humans have to desserts. My S and I ate at a decent restaurant–we had salads and a huge plate full of stir fried veggies & salmon over rice. I was stuffed, really…but I saw the waitress squirting whipped cream on a chocolate mousse dessert and I swear, my eyes lit up and my pulse quickened.

We don’t eat desserts unless it’s a special occasion. Really, we never thought of dessert (and still didn’t order it.) But that mousse just got my attention!

Haha. Ruh roh.

Bumping us up. Selfishly. I need the accountablility to get back to healthier eating,to lose the 8 lbs I have put back on. To get my cardio back up to the point it was 3 months ago.
Day 3 of couch to 5K. I made it past half way today. Slow but progress in the fact that I ran half way up my hill before I pooped out.

mommusic–totally agree that there’s ALWAYS room for dessert, particularly anything involving chocolate.

mom60–good for you and hang in there. At the suggestion of someone on this thread, I befriended C25K on fb and got lots of good articles to read. One of them was about an even gentler way to mix in some jogging with the walking. It started with 10 seconds of jogging out of each minute, which has been much better for my joints. I’m still early in the process (and took time off for a quick vacation last week) but am up to 15 seconds of jogging each minute. So far so good, joint-wise.

^^My best advice…take short strides. Jogging uphill is easier if you take shorter strides and lean into it a little bit letting your torso lead the way… so you aren’t throwing you legs/knees out in front of your body forcing them to bear the full brunt of pulling your body up the hill.

Happy to report that most of my jeans are too loose and I may need to buy some new ones. I feel good and am very close to my goal, although the battery in my scale died (again!) so I haven’t weighted in this week.

As soon as I do weigh in, if I reached my goal, you will be the first to know!

I’ve been a bit lax this fall, so am checking back in for some motivation. I now have 2 gadgets, an iPhone 5 and an iPad. I have paid for 6-months of Livestrong’s myPlate app, I downloaded a free yoga poses app and I’m trying out MyFitness Pal, too.

Did I miss any really good apps to help me be healthier? How about heart rate monitors that tie into an app? If you’ve tried something and it works for you, that’s what I want to hear.

To start off the new month I am tracking my food again. Woot woot.

Can you do your C25k NOT going uphill??? If I started having to go uphill I wouldn’t have made it very far - uphill is very tough. Flat terrain would be better to begin on.

Good work people!

EPTR! Congratulations.

And I’m just chiming in to say I appreciate this thread enormously. Helps me with the constant mindfulness.

Has anyone used the Nike+ iPod gadget with their iPhone? I’m a walker/hiker/jogger/runner and it looks promising for tracking exercise but there are mixed reviews online.

Abasket I could avoid the hills if I drive to a park. I find I am more likely to exercise if I just walk outside my door. I have three routes I can take when I leave my door. One is definitely out as it starts off steep. Of the two others I discovered one is a bit better. I am not going to give up!
Congrats EPTR.

Thanks for the congrats but I haven’t weighed in yet so don’t jinx me!!! Lol. We’ll see tomorrow morning. I’ll keep you posted.

Third week on Weight Watchers and I’ve lost a total of 8lbs. So far, I’m very happy with the program and the results (of course!) I know the weight loss will slow as my body gets used to this new way of eating but I’ll take the early, bigger losses!

I will admit that a downside of needing to loose over 100lbs is that 8lbs is not noticable in anyway. Clothes fit the same, etc. But, I know I need to stick with it to see results. I’ve signed up for an intro to pilates class, so we’ll see how that goes.

Best of luck, EPTR!

I have been lax, so am still 4 lbs away from goal. But happy to report I almost was too light to donate blood today!

jym626,what is the weight required to donate blood?

Minimum required Weight depends on your height

Pugmad, 8 is wonderful and it won’t be long at all until at least YOU can tell a difference in your clothes - keep going! What you are doing is working!

I wish I had some hills when I walk out my door just for the view! Very flat here.

I just drove to a park that has a gravel path - it was easier than pavement but still harder than the treadmill for jogging . But I fully agree that it is so much easier to just walk out your door and go.

Pugmad, I could tell I was losing at about 25. More noticeable at 45. When I was able to really kick up the exercise at cardio rehab, I started dropping lots of inches, though not as much weight. Now people don’t recognize me.

What I’ve done on this journey is to buy smaller clothes as I go, and not keep wearing the same old big stuff. Not that I’ve bought a lot, but it was a big deal to actually buy jeans instead of elastic waist pants. It had been YEARS. When I look in the mirror, I still see the old me and all the lumps and bumps that haven’t gone away. When I wear my new jeans, there is no denying the difference.

Snowflake, remind me what that Nike gadget is suppose to do? More than just measure distance???
