I just committed myself to not gaining back weight - dropped 4 bags of fall/winter clothes off at Goodwill (including 17  pairs of pants/jeans and 9 bras). I had saved everything wearable as my weight went up so was mainly shopping my closet as it went down. I really liked some of the stuff but it’s not alterable, or at least not worth the cost of tailoring. Now I’m shopping TJ Maxx and Kohl’s 30% coupon days. I can still wear the looser tops but the looser pants - no way. I waited all summer to make sure the loss stuck and hope I didn’t just jinx myself!

pugmad - DH said he could see the weight loss in my face after 10 pounds, I could see it in my body after 15, and others after 25 in photos.

abasket, I think if you have an iPhone4, 4s, or 5, then you just buy the Nike+ transmitter which is $20; you place it in your shoe between the tongue and laces and it acts like a pedometer, with the added bonus of auto-logging the distance, course and calories burned to a website so you can track your mileage and improvement (faster hopefully) over time. The newer iPhones and iPods act as a receiver, so you just need to bring it with you on your walk/run for it to record your data. I’ve read mixed reviews on battery life and ease of use, but I’m kind of a techie girl so am willing to work through reasonable tech glitches.

I see. I do always go out with my iPhone (using it as my iPod ) and my new running shoes had something about the Nike thingy on the box. Could there be one build in?

Hi Dummies,
still maintaining : )
This passed week has been a few aha moments in my yoga class. After 2 years I managed to push up to full wheel- ( or bridge). I am thrilled, never thought I would do that again ( i was a gymnast in high school) and then tonight I managed to do an arm balance from a squat. The weight loss plus the regular curves is really strengthening my “core”. Next goal - a handstand!

Yes, possibly the Nike Thingy is the transmitter. However, on another thread someone suggested you don’t need the ‘thingy’ if you have the iPhone5, so when I walk the dog this week I’ll investigate further. I hope this Nike+ iPod feature works!

pugmadkate, Congratulations on the great start! The conventional wisdom is that losing 10% of your initial weight is enough for significant health benefits, so before your weight loss is evident you will have lengthened your life expectancy.

jym, almost too light to donate blood? I’d take that as a compliment!

Hi, everybody! I don’t know what happened with my computer but I somehow got knocked off this thread and stopped receiving notifications since October 22nd! Had some GREAT reading to catch up with!@MyLB happy belated birthday! (I think we share the same day??) @Gibson—congrats on your moves in yoga class—it’s so meaningful to revisit a physical achievement that seemed lost forever buried in time and/or fat! a Full wheel is quite an accomplishment! I loved the story about the hubby’s pants falling down—it gave me such hope as I work towards being able to say that I lost 40 lbs.

Had a lot of personal things happen that weren’t the best. My only daughter (freshman 700 miles away!) was in a bike accident on her way to class. She’s suffered blunt force trauma to her chest as she hit a garbage can, flew over it and landed on her back. She was riding to da*n fast! She avoided a concussion because she had her hair up in the classic “ballet bun” (she’s a ballerina) and the BUN took the force of the impact! She bruised a lung and finds breathing difficult but will be home for Thanksgiving! I thought I’d lose my mind calling the Urgent care facility and texting with my kid back and forth. What really sustained me was this whole weight loss effort. I kept telling myself that I can’t control these outside events but the one thing I CAN control is what I put in my mouth!

Tuesdays are my weigh-in days and since my last visit on Oct 22nd I’ve lost 6.8 lbs. Total 29.8 lbs. It feels s-o GOOD to be back here with helpful friends!!!

Bungalow! So sorry about your daughter!!! Glad her injuries weren’t even worse! It must be awful to get that phone call!
So glad that your sticking with the wight loss even during this. I, so often, use chaotic situations as an excuse to fall off the wagon!

As of Friday, I was 2 oz. away from my goal! I had undies on though, lol, so I’m claiming success!

I think I may try to lose a few more before switching to maintenance as I still have this damn spare tire around my middle. It’s definitely smaller but not gone :(

@Countingdown—I really needed to read your post about when you began noticing the loss of weight. I can barely see it at 28 lbs but the ability to get into a pair of pants one size smaller has helped me enormously! It excites me to think that with the exercise I do others will see the weight loss in 10 or so lbs!

Your actions of buying new stuff to wear on your journey is so powerful—me and elastic waist sweatpants have been “buddies” for almost 20 years. I can’t WAIT to go into a store and buy a pair of pants one size lower than the pair I just got into now—it’s a powerful visual even if no one else notices, WE know. . .and that gives me the needed push to move on! 5 lbs more or so and I’ll feel confident to do the Couch to 5k. As a former marathon runner it will have deep significance to me!

EPTR—Congrats on meeting your goal! Maybe the spare tire is just loose skin! I was reading elsewhere of a mom who lost close to 100 lbs and then afterward had a tummy tuck. She posted pictures of the changes and she looked fantastic—I’m thinking of that for myself when I make goal if I have a lot of loose skin that won’t respond to exercise.

Congrats to everyone in their movement forward! As rewarding as the lost pounds is, is the improved self image , confidence and feeling of control! :)

So sorry about your dau, bungalowdweller. Best wishes for a very speedy recovery.

EPTR- What kind of scale shows 2 oz??? Mine only goes to 1/2 lbs. I just got back from a conference where I was not very good at watching what went in my mouth, and I am still 4 lbs from goal. Those of you who have lost 30, 40, 50 lbs are sooo impressive!

Jym, I just looked at it and there is no brand listed! I got it at Walgreens and it’s a clear glass top, digital and it reads to 2 oz. Honestly, its probably better to have the 1/2 pound one so you don’t obsess over every ounce. It must round off! If I had that one, I would be at goal for sure! :)

EPTR - I know how you feel! I kept getting within .2 pounds of my goal (Wii Fit weighs in tenths of pounds) then backing off; finally hit it once but haven’t been back again.

I read that the loose skin can take 6-12 months to “snap back”. Some of mine has tightened up but still a bit of droop; no more “tummy dewlaps” fortunately. My weight has been fairly steady for the last 5 months.

Thanks, Marilyn! That’s hopeful! And beyond that, what can you do?! I’m grateful to have gotten this far and feel really good. A little extra tummy bulk won’t get me down.
