My weight( since losing 50 lbs) has been constant for a year now. My tummy is not a real issue but my upper thighs and backside are pretty darn wrinkley. I run about 15 miles/week but it has no effect on the wrinkles I’m beginning to think I’ll just have to live with it.

I am hanging my head in shame…

After maintaining for the past few months, I have slipped and put on a few pounds. I knew I was doing it. Why do we sabotage ourselves? I could feel it in my new jeans before the scales showed it. So, back to restricting for a couple of weeks. I hate to have gained back before the holidays , knowing i will indulge a bit more then.
Think I should go back to tracking on livestrong and up the exercise regime.

I gained 2.5 pounds last night! Hopefully not permanently! I’m actually pretty pleased with myself, I’m slowly drifting down to what I want to weigh with the diet that I want to keep for the rest of my life (which includes gourmet meals like the one I had yesterday.)

Gibson1514–I really think with the coming of shorter days and colder weather, our bodies “want” to store extra fat. I usually don’t have a problem keeping weight off, but I find myself craving carbs these days. I do tend to eat less at a meal if I just had a sweet or high-fat snack, but it’s not so healthy to be eating that instead of the meal so I try to watch it.

I believe that the more carbs your body eats, the more it will crave (correct me if I’m wrong). I know at least for me personally, if I get away from carbs - not totally but cut way down- I crave them much less. Fill up with veggies and protein - even for snacks!

Everyone is different! I find I do BETTER this time of year - I make more of an effort to exercise inside at our fitness center since it’s not so nice outside and there is LESS opportunities for summer time ice cream and leisure living which includes more eating out etc!

Abasket, I agree about the carbs. I can’t believe how very little I miss pasta and rice. I went from wanting to order it SOOOO badly when I went out to eat, to not even wanting it now that I can have a little without the guilt. bread still appeals to me in restaurants if it is nice and warm, but I stop at one piece.

Gibson,
I finally had success by using The Seventeen Day Diet. It is broken into 17 day periods and the first is the one designed to jump start the weight loss. It is very restrictive, I won’t lie to you. But if you want to shed those few pounds quickly before the holidays, take a look at it. I found it cleansing and not terribly painful to follow.

I agree with mommusic. I think when it’s cold the body holds onto fat and/or wants or craves it. The important thing is not to be ourselves up when we gain a lb or two. Just get back to what has made us successful and do it!

Why am I not getting notifications about posts to this thread? I thought I clicked the right stuff to make it happen! Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I didn’t even know you could get notifications!

EPTR—Go to “My Control Panel” at the top left of this page. It’s in blue. Click on it and go to the field “Settings & Options”. Click “Edit Options” and look under the heading “Messaging & Notification”. Under the “Default Thread Subscription” header you can choose “daily email notifications”, “instant” (which I use on this thread), “weekly”, etc. I hope this is helpful to you.

bungalowdweller, while I read the “Dressing Young” thread for inspiration, my clothes budget is not anywhere near that realm. Makes it easier to buy new jeans when I’m only spending $20.
I needed to “see” the progress and it keeps me motivated. I am 5’8" and carry most of my weight in the middle, so noone ever thinks I weigh as much as I do. If someone 5’4 lost 25 lbs., I think the difference would be much more noticeable!

Mathmom and jym762 saw me the weekend before I started this weight loss journey – oy vey, it was grim. Am a little sorry I don’t have pics of when I actually started, though I have other pics that are in the same 5 lb range. I have dropped from a size 26-28 to 16-18. ~30 lbs to go to a normal BMI.

Unfortunately, with all the blood thinners I’m on, I will never be a good candidate for a tummy tuck. I should look up how much all that extra skin weighs. I am not used to the lack of double chins and visible collarbones. To me, I look gaunt (and have sprouted a turkey wattle! WTH?!?!). And darn it all, I am STILL shaped like an apple. Not good for the heart.

I have a WW scale and it goes to the nearest .1 lb. It is crazy-making, but I certainly notice every little fluctuation.

I thought my turkey waddle would disappear, too but it hasn’t. Well, at least we’re in season.

CountingDown, I’m right with you on the clothing budget thing! Paying for my d’s college in addition to the crummy economy is sucking the air out of any spending $. I’m 5’7" and also carry most of my weight in the belly so I agree with you that sometimes it’s hard to “see” the improvement. You have made simply FABULOUS progress and are an inspiration! I’ve spoken to women who have told me that the didn’t see the “big” change until they lost 40-50 lbs. I remind myself that it’s like pregnancy in reverse. We’re giving birth to a new person (ourselves) and in the first trimester most of us don’t show a thing! It’s in the second trimester that things begin to g-r-o-w or in our case, shrink.

^^ Like that analogy!

What’s a turkey waddle??!!!

CountingDown - THAT is impressive!

Abasket, if you don’t know what it is, then you must not have one, God bless you!

It’s the loose skin between your chin and your throat. Waddle waddle.

Ohhh!!! I guess I am lucky I don’t - didn’t know what that was!! (I thought it was a little wiggle you had from behind when you walk…duh!!!) :)

Here is the source of your confusion abasket:

Wattle - the flap of skin under the turkey’s chin. Turns bright red when the turkey is upset or during courtship.

In Seattle they do a Thanksgiving marathon called the Wattle Waddle. The half marathon is the Wittle Waddle.

Alright so I think I have a wattle AND a waddle. Damn.

EPTR–I’m sure it’s only a wittle wattle.

It’s a widdle wattle that wiggles when I waddle!

But seriously – for those who haven’t heard my story, better to lose the weight sooner than later. 92% of those who have a full cardiac arrest outside the hospital don’t make it. I am very, very lucky to be here.
