Weight Loss for Dummies

Ah, you are all there! I am extra motivated to keep healthy and lean for my Cancun trip with my family. I think there I can do Zumba and yoga every day if I want…

Bumping just to try and give us/me some sense of control when we have all the not-low-calorie snacks on the table NY Eve!!!

How’s everyone doing??? Or plans/initiative to get ack on track as the holidays end??

Hi!!! Well, all my pants still fit but I haven’t gotten on the scale this week. A little scared, to be honest. Once tomorrow night is over, it’s back to the trenches, so to speak. I’m looking forward to a trip out west in April and want to feel okay in a bathing suit.

I was talking to my sister and her husband yesterday. Both want to go on a diet after New Years. One of the things that I realized when talking to them is that I feel sooooo much better when I am eating right. That’s the best part of eating healthy food. The weight loss is second to that, IMO. They both have quite a bit to lose and have gotten into some horrible lifestyle habits such as a cocktail every evening, fattening snacks every time they watch tv, etc. I told them that it’s about choices.

My pants still fit too… just!

I am giving myself some leeway. I am still 30+ pounds lighter than this time last year. D2 posted a pic of me next to the xmas tree on her fb page with the heading " My skinny mummy" . Best xmas gift! I wish I had the courage to post pics from last year to compare. I untagged myself in them all because I hated the way I looked, this is what got me determined to change my ways in 2012.

Wishing you all a happy new year and thank you all for helping me find my old self!

Hello all and Happy New Year! I have been a bad bad girl - we’re out in Pasadena to go to the Rose Parade (no, not the game) and have been enjoying meals out. There’s a bakery in Burbank with fantastic breakfast pastries for only a dollar or so apiece… We did go horseback riding riding in Griffith Park - does that count as exercise ;)? We will be doing a lot of walking over the next couple of days so that should help. But I don’t look forward to my first weigh in on Jan. 3rd.

Hello, fellow WLFDers. It’s been a while since I have been here. Since having to bring my father over from HI to CA, I have gained 15 pounds…what with the stress, holidays and the fact that my exercise schedule has been turned topsy turvy (what with having to do Dad things). But I think my life will calm down after the start of the new year and I am looking forward to getting back to my WLFD program. Happy New Year to all!!

Elle, sorry to hear that you’ve had some stress, but today is the first day of your reset!

I have been on vacation and am trying to drink more morning smoothies (1/2 cup each of 0% Greek yogurt, frozen blueberries, frozen strawberries, and OJ, and sometimes I add a scoop of protein powder and 1 Tbsn of fiber (Salba). If I do that I seem to eat better all day.

Happy New Year, all!

Sorry about the stress, ellemenope.
I have done way too much dining out, but it was yummy. Unfortunately the scale was not kind and I am back to being 7 lbs from goal (was at one point 2 lbs from goal). So tomorrow I get serious (we have 2 parties today, so will not be too rigid til tomorrow-- just careful today)

Jym, it’s probably mostly water retention from all the restaurant salt. I’ll bet you’ll shake off most of it by the end of the week!

You are kind, EPT, but its not water :(

I think that is the best way to maintain, so keep up the good work in beautiful Pasedena

Okay, I have to confess that I’ve lost a few pounds, though it wasn’t from shear willpower or heavy exercise. This cold/flu that I’ve had has kept my eating at bay for the last several days. Of my 10 pounds I’d like to trim off, I seem to have misplaced 4 of them since Sunday.

Now if I can just get my energy back before my Cancun vacation starts next week.

Signed, grouchy snowflake.

So sorry you had the flu Snowflake - hope you are feeling all well for your trip - and a little bonus that you’ll start the trip a little lighter!!! Bikini time??! :)

Eek - up 3 1/2 pounds over the five days away. Um, er, sure, it must have been the plane ride home that did it. Can’t imagine what would have resulted without the tons of walking! Back to my strict regimen…

Feel better, snowflake.

Maybe 2 of the lbs were water weight, EPTR, but clearly not any more than that. Back to being 5 lbs from goal ( but havent lost the wonderful amounts of many here- still mega impressed!)

Catching up with all the posts. I have been avoiding this thread.
Abasket- congrats on the running. I am impressed.
Snowvermont- hope you feel better and can enjoy your sunny vacation.
Ellemenope- hope your Dad settles in and you can get back on track.
Jym and Marilyn I also have been eating out too much and not exercising enough. Heck I am not exercising at all!
I haven’t weighed myself but I know that my pants are getting tight. I also saw a photo of myself from the week before Christmas and I was not pleased. I can’t even blame it all on the holidays. I think having my kids home adds stress to my life and I don’t make good food choices. I reach for the salt and carbs when I am stressed.
I am not sure what my next step will be. One child leaves this weekend and I hope for some tension reduction in the house. Need to get back walking and no more fries and bread when I go out.

Mom60, well, you coached yourself and so we are just here to cheer you onward! Good to have you check in with us.

Has anyone tried T-Tapp Basic Workout? It’s a lot of fun and only takes a quick 15 minutes. Saves on my heating bill, too. I wait until it feels chilly in my office, usually by lunch time. Then do the workout. Warms me right up!

I’ve been able to ride my bike more since the start of the new year! I rode 1017 miles last year!! (I have a friend who rode 2,500 miles…I bow at her greatness…) My goal is to ride 1,500 miles this year. I like goals.

Bad news–I know someone who lost a lot of weight last year and has gained so much of it back already. :frowning: He did the Medifast thing to lose his weight and has obviously had trouble with the maintenance. Maintenance is not easy. I thought that I had changed my lifestyle and my relationship with food, but that has only been partially true.

My father is doing great! I am very encouraged with his progress.

Well, off for a walk tonight! Thanks to lgilmour for the kick in the pants to get out there. That’s the beauty of this thread…you guys motivate me to do what I know I need to do!

Hi everyone.
Sleepless in NJ and came across this thread.
I’m a CCer who can’t seem to log off even though we are done with kids in college.
Mostly because there are so many smart folks on here who share all kinds of great stuff.

Anyway, I’ve been eater better since Dec 1st and exercising 4-5 days/week. Elliptical mostly, walking, some weights. Survived ONE spinning class, have not returned yet!
Have much weight to lose and at 50 something, it is difficult.

Hope it’s OK that I’m jumping in here a mere 1.5 years in.
I also am learning a bunch from that infamous ‘other’ diet/exercise thread but am so much a novice there that I could surely use some support here too.
