welcome, musicmom

I woke up realizing I have a busy day today so I got on the exercycle while I read the paper. Better than nothing. But now I need a 2nd breakfast to keep me going until lunch!

And on the topic of diet, I wonder if there’s something to the theory that wheat causes inflammation. Over the holidays I ate more flour-based items, including innocuous non-sweet foods like burrito wrappers, and my hands have been bothering me more. As a pianist, that’s not a good thing! :(

Well I know that carbs definitely give tummy bloat - not sure about finger bloat!

Hey, look- we have “musicmom” AND “mommusic” participating - how funny!! ^^^^^

And I wanted to share that there is a way to keep Girl Scout cookies from entering your house!

When they come to the door with their shpiel & their puppy-dog eyes, ask if there is a partnership whereby you can purchase and DONATE the cookies. Usually it’s to servicemen & women, or sometimes to a local charity that works with inner city children and can use the snacks. So you help 2 organizations at once and maintain your diet plan!

Not to say that I won’t eventually succumb to the siren call of Thin Mints in the grocery store lobby, but that’s a battle for another day…

abasket–I wasn’t clear (though I knew what I was talking about)…I have some mild arthritis in my hands. It would be nice to know what causes a flareup so I could avoid it. :)

And look, I gave you a light greenie!

Hello all! Count me among the gainers over the holidays. As my D got on the plane on Sunday I have to admit I was a little relieved to go home to my “empty nest.” DH and I cleaned the house, I made soup, I caught up on work and I felt relaxed. I am happy to be back to a routine.

Do I sound like an old fart??

Another holiday gainer here…I’ve been lurking on this thread for awhile.

I too am partly relieved to be back into a routine after the holidays and kids home…although not an empty nester quite yet.

I lose my healthy eating routine around my kids, even more so during the holidays, but just being with them, I kind of give myself permission to go into free fall, not good.

Mommusic, yes, there does seem to be a connection between eating wheat and flare ups, especally if you have other autoimmune things like arthritis and/or Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. I am waiting on some results from my own gluten sensitivity blood test. My sister has been gluten-free for a year and I suspect her tummy weight loss is related to the intestinal issues her body had with trying to digest flour based products.

Your regular doctor will usually only check for the worst case version of gluten intolerance, celiac disease, but a naturalpath or homeopathic doctor will check for less obvious forms of gluten sensitivity that could affect your health before it gets to the stage of celiac disease.

If you do get tested, don’t stop eating wheat ahead of time if you can bear it so your test results show your body’s reaction to gluten.

Elle, you are all of our inspiration. Once I figure out how to give kudos from my iPad, you’ll be the first to get some greenies.

Welcome to all newbies and returnies and plain old “oldies” to this thread!

It’s great to have people at all levels here - just recognizing they need to get moving with a plan AND those in the midst of a plan (or sort of!). :)

Morning Dummies,
I think I joined this thread a year ago today!

I also gained over the holidays, but I have forgiven myself! That is part of life and I want to share in all the holiday goodies. My thought process is to move from maintainance back to " diet" for January and lose those 5 pounds. Maybe this is just what I do every year. I am determined not to gain back the 30 pounds over the next 5 years which is what happened to me before. Kept exercising daily- but when I was really dropping weight I went to the gym in the morning and then walked in the afternoon. Now D2 is back to high school, my routine will be back to normal and hope to walk later in the day.

worknprogress- absolutely not! That sounds blissful.

Waving to all on this path!

Welcome to musicmom! This group can always use new blood and new stories.

I want to make every person here very happy with their accomplishemnts. How I do it? Here we go - 4 lbs on me after visiting NYG during holidays. Do not worry! All your holiday bulges will be gone if you stick to your regular eating and exercise habits. Best wishes!

workinprogress- I guess I am also an old fart. I love having my house all to myself. We had a brief empty nest for 1 month. I thought I would be sad but NO! It was bliss. We have had our oldest back home for 6 weeks now. I love her and I am happy she is here but I do miss the quiet.

Hello to newcomers and Happy New Year to all! Once again want to thank everyone on this thread for the inspiration to get me where I am today (OK, where I was before the holidays but close enough). So happy to be able to walk everywhere I want to walk and climb every hill/stairs I want to climb. Not to mention wearing all the new clothes :). My weight and I seem to have reached an accord - it will go up when I’m not paying attention and back down when I’m watching. I’ve relaxed a little so have been on maintenance for the last 6 months. It would be nice to go down 10 more pounds but will be content if this is where I stay.

Thank you for the welcomes. I am happy to be here.

I guess it would be impolite of me as the newbie here to revel in the fact that I joined CC over a year BEFORE Mommusic did!?!?
Wait, I’ll play nice, let me stay, Ok? :)

And not knowing any better, I took a name confusingly similar to yours.

Oh well, I’m not going to change now and sacrifice all those post-points and GREENIES! :D

And obviously, you have a life and better things to do than post here. :)

There is definitely room on CC for you both!! :).

Now we will just pay attention to which “twin” is posting!!!

What are these GREENIES of which you speak?
Guess I’m NOT devoting appropriate time to the CC community…

And not only did I NOT visit the gym today, I had a marvelous diner cheeseburger with onions and mushrooms AND the bun too. When I’m off, I’m way off.

Back on the plan tomorrow…off work this Thursday, I may try to spin again, if I don’t lose my courage.
