Weight Loss for Dummies

Ladies, if my husband suddenly started losing weight or updating his wardrobe or working out when he didn’t before…just saying…

It was actually quite touching when he told me some of his story. His weight has slowly creeped up - I remember when it was shocking that he weighed 200! He told me the story of getting on the scale and seeing “269” and being shocked and disgusted. He shook his head and said “that’s it”. He is already down a pants size. His whole demeanor is much more positive with everything.

Rather than being “worried” that he’s asking for his WW leader (haha), I like to think that he was partially inspired by my adopting a Plan to learn to run for the first time in my life. :)

I agree ellemenope! It just reads so funny!

Good for him, abasket! I think you’re definitely a motivation for him. He doesn’t want to get left behind!

Bumping this thread from almost page 6!!!

Don’t let those Super Bowl snacks take you down forever!
Super Bowl is done have a great, reasonable eating/exercising day(s) this week!!!

Does anyone have experience with the Biggest Loser Diet? If so, which book would you suggest is the most helpful?

My favorite related to Biggest Loser is Jillian Michaels 30-day Shred, which hooked me up to my first food/exercising tracking website, FatSmart, or something like that. I still have the DVD (home exercise video) but now use MyFitnessPal for food/exercise tracking.

The nice thing about the DVD was that it was 30 minutes and it was intense, so if you are short on time, it can still help you a lot. If you can get through the routine of doing it for at least 3-4 days of the first week, you will start to feel better fast because then you are self motivated to do it on your own 5-6 times a week. And you will see and feel a difference in your muscles and fat ratios.

Celebrating 300 pages of this thread. Thank you EPTR!!!

(wonder if maybe this thread has been responsible for 300 pounds lost over it’s course…hmm… ) :)

Yeah!!!
I’m so glad we’re all still here. I feel so much better than I did 1.5 years ago. Still not perfect but getting there. It’s so nice to put clothes on and feel good in them. I have more energy and my complexion looks better. Thanks for all of the support! Especially you, Abasket. You are the voice of reason!

I enjoy and learn from everybody’s posts. Lost some of Xmas weight gain but still up .8 lbs from low. Will fix that this week.
Total weight loss: 42.1 lbs since September 1st.

Yesterday, I started a food journal. I was really honest, down to the number of triscuits. I discovered that I did not drink one glass of water for the whole day! I did have tea and coffee though.

China, is that a food journal online or just on a notepad??? Both are good and help you be accountable, but I will also put in a plug for the Livestrong/MyPlate site where you enter in your food daily - it is SO eye opening to see the calories, nutritional breakdown, etc. AND it’s fun to enter in each food item AND be able to enter in your exercise so you can earn even MORE calories to eat in your day!

Checking back in … Exercising going well, food journaling okay, and water drinking excellent.

I just got back my food sensitivities from my naturalpath doctor (new kick I am on) and it turns out I am very sensitive to eggs, kidney beans, whey and milk. Finally, an explanation for the funny reaction on the roof of my mouth when I eat scrambled eggs or omelets. Also explains the reaction I get when I splurge on a half pint of Ben & Jerry’s at night and get a 2am wake up call. Fortunately, all meat but chicken is fine, and all veggies and fruits except cranberry are fine. The theory of knowing these strong sensitivities is to avoid these foods so your body can work more optimally. Well, step one, adjustment of what I log in my food journal.

First time here. I bought a withings scale (which has probably been discussed–links to your phone and computer) and now I am tracking my attempt to lose my holiday weight.

Cut out carbs. Have lost 7 lbs in 3 weeks. Yay, me. :)

Checking back in. Have been tracking weight but not food intake/calories. Ive used livestrong but am considering switching to myfitnesspal. Have any of you used both? How do they compare? The only reason to switch is so I can track on my phone (livestrong wasnts me to pay for the full app and I dont want to.)

I’d gained over the holidays and have lost most of that, but am still about 4.5# away from my goal. I am at the weight I was at last July, and would like to get back in gear. I’ve had a lot of dining out lately and should be better about what I eat. I am exercising more in preparation for an upcoming ski trip, so thats good. Been to the gym 3x since last Friday, and plan to go again tonight if I get out of work early enough. I am in awe of those of you who have lost so much weight!! Very impressive. Congrats!!

Welcome, mrscollege! Congrats on your weight loss!

Jym, I would like to lose another 4 or 5 pounds too. I also eat out way too much and even when you I to order “responsibly” there are those hidden calories!

Maybe you and I should go out for a bite together and talk about strategy!

Works for me, EPTR!!

And welcome, mrscollege. Apologies for my oversight. Brain not awake yet.

Welcome MrsCollege … Looks like you are off to a great start. We’ll try to keep you on track!

jym, I have both on my iPad, and don’t log every day, but my over all experience is better with MyFitnessPal. The first week is the hardest as you will have to enter foods that are custom to you, but it is easy to search on standard foods you can buy, and after the first week it is very easy to quickly log your food. The exercise logger on both is good, but I like the food tracking better on MFP.

Thanks, snowflake! Very helpful.

OK, I’m jumping on this train! I’m watching what I eat and getting to the gym. I just switched gyms and the new one is closer to home, so easier to get to! I need to lose about 20 lbs. Ack! I want to do so by July if possible. I’ve lost my holiday weight, so now on to the stubborn stuff.

I’m headed to the gym!

Welcome newbies!

mrscollege, I’ve never heard of that type of scale…

Eating my steel cut oats with nuts and fruit while I read of all your successes!!! :)
