Weight Loss for Dummies

Bathing suit catalogs…yes! Great idea. Haha.

I’m one of those people who’s hungry even after dinner. There are few times I feel “too stuffed to eat anymore” like my husband always is.

I agree that more protein and fiber and drinking water helps. No sugar is key (including no fruit except maybe hard ones like apples but only a little). And I have also found that even artificial sweeteners make my body think like sugar…or maybe I read that somewhere…so I stopped drinking diet drinks as well.

Still I get hungry at night, but less so if I do the above.

God bless anyone who’s living on 1300 cals/day!

Oh, and I hear that drinking Milla (chia seeds) cuts hunger so I’m trying that now since a “helpful neighbor” gave me a bag. ;)

Yes…artificial sweeteners cause the body to release insulin, even tho your body does not NEED insulin to “digest” them. Bad news.

@mommusic----Thanks for sharing about the artificial sweeteners! I had no idea. I guess the diet sodas in the pantry will be the last I buy in a while.

@mstee-----Athletes have been using self improvement exercises for years. I think it’s a wonderful idea.

@sewhappy-----I think bathing suit catalogs are a great idea. I’ve been using regular clothing catalogs for inspiration for some time. There’s nothing like imagining yourself as the new you.

Tuesday was my weigh-in date. Lost the final Xmas 2 lbs. Total weight loss since September–33.2 lbs. Time to move ON!

GOOD for you!!! ^^^^

I’m going to go weigh in at WW. Apparently chewing the gum for the last two days helped. According to the gym scale this morning, down two pounds since yesterday, after staying the same or a little higher five days in a row. Now if I can just not eat or drink anything for the next 20 min. till I get the official weigh in. And then gotta remember to buy more gum . . .

And congrats, bungalowdweller on your losses!

Chia seeds are very good for you. Love the chia seeds.

My usual fairly healthy eating habits are being disrupted.

I have added another part-time job to my list of gigs and it involves doing a lot of reading and taking notes at the computer. I can do the work at home, my time is flexible, BUT I find I really want to snack all the time. I am accustomed to working on the computer a lot - as a school psychologist, report writing is a big chunk of my time, but when I am writing I don’t think about snacking (well, not as much!).

I am going to have to resolve to be very careful or else I will slowly, insidiously put on weight. I am just making this semi-public proclamation so I stay vigilant. In the last month I put on about 2 pounds - no big deal in itself - but we all know where that can lead!!!

okay worknprogress2 … now that you’ve made your proclamation, know that we are watching you!

Good going, bungalowdweller!

We got a Sports Illustrated bathing suit catalog in the mail today but all the suits are either too big (they fell off the models) or too small (the models are falling out of them) so it’s not much use.

I’m not going to be eating too much the next couple of days because I have to get another tooth extracted! Went to the dentist with a mild toothache yesterday, and tomorrow I have to get it removed and prepped for future implant. This time it’s “internal resorption” with no known cause which makes me very nervous about the future - two teeth in less than six months?

It just better be OK in time for my cruise in two weeks  .

Good Luck, Marilyn! A cruise. . .how wonderful. I’m sure that it will be ok by the time you go!

My newest weight loss tip is to get a tooth extracted - silver lining to the cloud is that I dropped a pound since Thursday and am again the lowest I’ve been. Something to do with eating small bites of soft food slowly on only one side of the mouth. The oral surgeon assured me that there would no issues about the cruise. So all the new and rediscovered clothes will fit at least for the start; no promises about the end!

Marilyn,
Hope your feeling better soon, I’m off to the dentist today myself. While it is just for a cleaning I have wicked TMJ so I know there is lots of advil in my future!
When My MIL had surgery on her right wrist, she learned to hold a fork with her left.
She lost 20# because she had to slow down as to actually get food in her mouth. That may be my next strategy!

Ouch!

Good news-- have been to the gym 3x/week. Bad news-- the scale is not my friend. Started logging in food consumption on livestrong again today.

Heal quickly, Marilyn!
Good left fork trick, laketime.

jym, don’t worry about the scale too much if you are just getting back to the gym. 3X/week is great! Good work logging your food … honesty of logging does wonders for me.

For myself, I’m doing okay exercising, especially if I count 4 hours cleaning my college freshman’s bedroom this past weekend. I find I eat better during the week, but on weekends I seem to go wild as food is more plentiful

I did find a replacement for whey protein powder … my local organic grocery had vanilla flavored pea protein powder that I can put in my fruit smoothie while I’m avoiding milk/whey for 6 weeks. Those health people are very clever. I will taste it tonight or tomorrow morning for breakfast.

Thanks, snowflake. Its the scale, the mirror and the way things fit. So time to get serious again.

What does that portein powder taste like in your smoothie? Can you taste it? I don’t think I could handle it. Would rather have an egg or cheese in the morning.

jym, I would rather have an egg and cheese too, but over the next 6 weeks I am avoiding milk, whey, and egg as my body has produced antibodies to them, suggesting that I have some kind of sensitivity or intolerance. I am not highly allergic, but for the egg, it makes sense as the roof of my mouth reacts when I eat omelets and scrambled eggs. This is part of my getting to optimal health plan … my western doctor just focuses on helping me avoid getting sick, but I want to be healthier than “not sick.”

So I will let you know about the pea protein powder … it is vanilla flavored, just like my whey protein powder, so if it is at least that taste I am okay with it.

Hope you feel better soon Marilyn! Has anyone tried a treadmill desk?

I want to hear more about this treadmill desk …

The pea protein powder was actually better than I thought it wold be. It is dairy-free, gluten-free and soy-free so it is a good option for some. I bought vanilla flavor and put a scoop in my fruit smoothies.

I have seen the treadmill desk on a news feature. Would be ok for short breaks during the day.

Anyone here have an under-desk bicycle unit? I’ve been looking for one, but hoping to find a very quiet version (this one doesn’t have great reviews). If anyone has one of these or a similar product please let me know!
