Eeks - page 7! I was still creeping up so put the formal pictures of me from the cruise in the pantry - one in front of the crackers and one on the candy shelf. I think it’s working because I dropped two pounds in three days. I want to keep fitting into those dresses! We’ve been enjoying the great weather but are about to have a short term shift to early spring - rain, chilly.

Next challenge will be Mother’s Day - does everyone have a plan? We’re taking brunch up to my mom’s and brother will also contribute food. I’m calling it a pop-up brunch! He’s bring bagels et al, fruit, and coffee; we’re bringing mimosa ingredients, waffle makings, mini-quiches, and something pastry-ish. My goal is to eat small portions slowly. Also to fill up on mimosas. :p

marilyn, your job is to bring fruit and veggies. sounds like all white dough brunch to me

more fruit the better

to get through it, use the smallest plate possible and eat f
veggies first, then fruit. set your alarm on your phone, and after 20 minutes, you may get some bready item. bagels are like four pieces of bread. bread is not worth gaining back the two poinds or more

breakfast seems to have the worst foods-bacon, sausages, dairy, sugary ceraal, giant muffins, butter, pancakes-waffles, egad

Apparently I’m having BBQ for Mother’s Day lunch. We’re driving son up to a summer job in Boston and he wants to stop at his favorite BBQ joint on the way. After four months in Jordan he’s ready for some American food. :)

I got to a new low a couple of weeks ago and have been staying within half a pound of that weight despite too many nights out, a high school reunion etc. This weekend is not going to be helpful, but I should be back on track next week. At least I’ve gotten a reasonable amount of exercise.

with recipes for healthy foods that are low-calorie, low-cost, and quick to make. I made the “Buffalo” chicken the other night and it was delicious. S1 gobbled up most of it, so I will make it again tonight. Very easy - dip chicken tenders in hot sauce, bake in oven, make dip from nonfat Greek yogurt and crumbled blue cheese. I’m also going to try the canned wild salmon/chickpea salad and the oat/egg white pancake.

Bumping us up.
I will join the chorus. Back on track, back on track! Now just need to do it.
I am back to getting on the scale. I need to commit to tracking my food. I have lost all motivation to exercise.
SnowflakeVt- Happy graduation.

Thanks, mom60. Up some pounds over the Mother’s Day weekend of graduation and eating out, but it fell off on its own after a week. No harm done.

Now, it’s Spring here in the Northeast … my annual try to start jogging outside ritual. Anyone care to join me in ramping up to a 5K? (I am only walking now.)

Endless plateau. Which is fine given that there have been a lot of celebrations in the last couple of months. Not getting quite as much exercise as I think I should, but that’s par for the course.

Likewise - I have been exercising and doing PT for knee issues, but I can’t seem to stop eating. Right now I’m afraid to get on the scale, but I am determined to be more careful in food selection. Of course we have graduation in Boston next week, so a lot of eating out and celebrating. At least it will involve walking! Why does this always happen to me right before the summer? It’s like I can be more motivated when it’s lousy out. Oh well. Back on track, right!

Okay moms … step 1 is coming to the CC confessional. Mathmom … do 3 walks this week to start. Runnersmom, wear comfortable shoes in Boston so you can walk more and take the T less.

Hut two three four … we are older but not much more!
Hut two three four, get those shoes on and hit the door.

snowflakeVt not sure about the 5K but I do need to at least get back walking. I will attempt to start that today!
Runnersmom- I was also afraid to get on the scale. I was not happy but it was not as bad as I thought it would be.
Celebrations and meals out are my downfall. I do pretty decent if I am only eating at home. I just haven’t had the willpower to make better choices when I dine out. I love chips, bread, tortilla (you get the picture) . Torta or salad? guess which wins? Not to mention fresh tortilla chips.

Excuse me while I get in line for the confessional!

I have gained about five pounds from my best weight and I know it isn’t a lot, but it makes a difference in how my lovely summer slacks fit. Sure, I can zip them up, but they are too tight to suit me.

Mom60 and I seem to have the same addictions. I can pass by sweets - but my downfall is cheese and salty. Not good for my weight or my BP.

Now that the weather is warmer, I really think it will be easier to stay on track.

Snowflake - I will join you in training for a 5K - although mine will be racewalking, not running.

Yes ma’m! I’ve actually started walking (though my orthopedic surgeon would prefer non-weight bearing cardio) and will commit to doing the weight workout my 1x week trainer outlines at least 2 other times during the week. That plus better choices should help. I just want to be able to stick with it long enough to make a real difference. I’m one of those people without a whole lot to lose, but enough that makes a huge difference in the way I feel and look and how my clothes fit. And my downfalls - bread and cheese with some ice cream thrown in!

Well, I probably don’t have time for a walk today, meeting a client at 6:30, but I have done 15 pushups, 15 kettleball swings, and 15 goblet squats. I’ll do another set before I leave, and a third after dinner.

No temptations till the weekend, but there’s a party on Sunday and since son is coming down for the weekend there will probably be at least one BBQ meal. I’ve also got a college friend visiting - so we’ll be walking through museums (she’s an art historian), but also eating too much (she’s a foodie.)

Yay for everyone! I did some cross gaining tonight … Weeding and mulching, which requires lots of shovels full of mulch into a wheel barrel and then to its destination. Yard looks great, almost done.

OK - I’ve decided that I need to be accountable to someone other than myself and tag, you’re it! I faced the music this morning and found that while the number on the scale is beyond unacceptable, it is, as predicted, not as bad as I thought. What is terrifying though is that it is the highest number I have ever seen while not pregnant. Since hitting 50 (I’m 57), I’ve found that the pounds just creep up and I can’t seem to maintain any significant loss. I’ve also decided that I do not want to spend the rest of my life hungry or depriving myself of things that bring me pleasure, like good food and good wine. So, I think I’ve decided that I just need to go at it 5 lbs at a time and realize that my “ideal” weight is probably not achievable at this stage of my life with the litany of joint issues I’m dealing with these days. So, day 2. Started with accepting reality and having a smart breakfast. Now, off to the treadmill and an off day strength workout. Have a good day all!

Well only did two sets of the kettlebells, but I did take a short (1/2 mile or so) walk to the school because dh had forgotten to vote in the morning.

Great attitudes! That’s the spirit. Double points for the healthy breakfast to start your day, runnersmom.

My goal today is to either continue my yard work routine or go for a 30-minute walk after work. I also told myself that if I want to watch one of those singing shows that I like, that I have to do 10 pushups and 30 situps before I start. (yes, not much, but it’s as start)

Sounds like a good start, Snowflake. I often watch a 20-minute episode from a DVD with S2. I have several exercises that I do while I watch. One is to start on hands and knees and lift one leg and one arm at a time. The other, which is great for hip mobility, is to start in the same position, but with one knee on a yoga block, and lift the knee on the ground higher than the knee on the block, then lower it almost to the ground, several times. Another is to use a foam roller alternative (shorter, hollow, hard plastic with knobby sections) to roll up and down my back, on my glutes, up and down legs. Then I put it under my lower legs and, starting in a plank position, pull the lower legs under me and back out. This is a good exercise for the core and it massages the front part of the lower legs.
