Weight Loss for Dummies

Well…week 1 official weigh in and I have lost 2 pounds! I will admit I am a little short tempered without sweets…but hopefully that will pass.
Thanks for the food suggestions…they got me thru the week! Looking at finding the time to add some more formal exercise into the plan this week…

Yippee! Three pounds down. Two more to go for our challenge.

Good luck, everyone! I’m at work and can’t type much. Sh…

Good for all of you! My scale hasn’t moved; I’m sticking to the Wednesday weigh-in; I seem to do better with that.

I am glad to see the challenge is having positive outcomes.
1moremom I also do better with a Wednesday weigh in.
One positive thing to share- yesterday a friend brought by some leftovers from her dinner party. I had a piece of the cake and tart last night and this morning. This thread gave me the reminder that I really don’t need it. I just tossed both of them in the trash.

Hi All, I am 2 pounds down finally! I was stalled for a bit, but walked more this weekend and didn’t eat snacks after dinner the last two nights.

My goal this week is to whack off another pound by avoiding food binges. I find that once I lose 3 lbs, my head realizes that it is more than just water weight and it is motivating.

On the 1200 calorie question … if you are tall, that 1200 max limit may really be starvation. Consider adding 200 calories in, but also increase your fiber grams per day, either by eating more veggies or adding a sprinkle of fiber stuff (I can’t remember the name, but the stuff I used 6 months ago was gluten free and I bought it in the health/organic section of our grocery store) to your normal food. I snuck it in my smoothies and my brain didn’t even notice it.

I’m down 1.6 pounds from last Monday. Still a ways to go but it’s progress! Going to try yoga tonight and see of my back can tolerate it.

Congrats on the good choices, ladies. Can’t wait to hear of the Wednesday weigh-ins. Tonight my daughter and I shot hoops, basketball.

I am staying steady. Lost a little gained it back. Okay, try try again! I think I would be worse off without this challenge. It’s keeping it from getting worse, at least!

Oh, the food is so good in Scotland and Ireland! And the bread…I gained 10 lbs despite lots of hiking. Very hard to get simple, non-fatty food. And when traveling with DH, he insists on three meals a day. Ummm…no can do! I wanted to enjoy myself while I was there, but yikes! I get thrown off when I can’t follow my own food routines (and that’ hard to do if I’m not home). Am now back working out at rehab and back on my usual list of foods.

Have dropped 1.2 since we got home Sunday.

Did my weigh in today. Down 6 lbs since 1st weigh in. I think my weight at the beginning was a lot of water weight. So not taking credit for the entire 6 lbs. still feels good.
CountingDown- I think part of being successful in healthier eating is not always being rigid. Vacations should be enjoyable. I bet a lot of the weight is salt and bloating from all the bread. It will come down as you get back in stride.
Eddieodessa- smiling at the image of you and your daughter playing basketball.

CountingDown, I hear you on Scottish food! We ate a lot of meat pasties when we went hiking. I’m mostly in plateau mode, but truly haven’t actually worked very hard at losing weight. Was particularly undisciplined this past weekend.

At this point I think the Wednesday weigh-in will be no better than Monday’s for me. Despite being in the middle of Geneen Roth’s book (and really always knowing I was using food and alcohol to numb myself when in difficult situations) dealing with my parents’ problems have sent me right back to my old bad habits. I wish I had a trip to Scotland to blame it on!

CountingDown, When I am tempted to eat something that is not on my “program” (not that I really have one), I ask myself-- Can I have this in a week (or whatever) when I am not trying to lose these pounds and will be able to enjoy it more? Or, is this a once in a lifetime (or very great while) opportunity that I might not have again? I’m glad you enjoyed your trip. And kudos for getting right back at it upon your return.

CD, how long was your trip? To gain that much, you needed to eat a whopping 35,000 calories above what you were burning. If you just got off a plane, part of your 10-lb gain could be due to water retention - it happens to me all the time! A couple of days later the gain usually disappears.

The trip was two weeks. I’m hoping some of this is water weight…but I have zero metabolism. S2 tells me all the time that prisoners are allowed more calories under the terms of the Geneva Convention than what I eat. :)

Sometimes we need the “phone a friend” in this forum to keep ourselves from the binge eating that we may really be doing to deal with stress.

Not sure why I made cupcakes today other than the fact that I worked from home and they were in the pantry waiting to be made during my lunch break. Maybe I will leave them out so my H eats them?

SnowflakeVT - Open your front door and throw the cupcakes outside. I did that once with cookies. ;)

I really should throw them out … stupid things jumped into my mouth a few times already. Why did I do that … self sabotage I say.

Could you take those cupcakes to a shelter or senior center or even the local fire station? I hate them to go to waste.

I bought a piece of chocolate cake. I ate half of it. I threw the rest in the trash.

Alumother, good job. You still got to eat some of it, hopefully enough to satisfy you. I had one HoHo last weekend, from a package of three. I enjoyed it, but sometimes foods aren’t as good as I imagine they will be, or they aren’t “worth it”. I am counting points.
