Weight Loss for Dummies

Down 9 from last Monday, but a lot of that was water retention from our trip. Am now three above where I was when we left for vacation, which is what I’m considering the start point for the five pound goal.

My problem with making healthy stuff: DH won’t eat it, and then I am left with a large quantity of food, which I then tend to overeat so it doesn’t go bad. Have seen some wonderful fall veggie recipes, but can’t picture eating the same thing for days on end, and this kind of stuff doesn’t freeze well.

A basket, what a great website with healthy recipes. Yum. Thanks!

Counting Down - cut the recipe in half! Or share with a neighbor or family member. :).

Those recipes look tasty, but there isn’t one I’d make on a regular basis, since we eat very few grains, potatoes or pasta.

Any experience with AmIHungrydotcom?

Im a longtime yo-yo er looking for a brain/behavior change.
I did also post this on the ‘other’ healthly living thread.

I’m up .8 pounds from last week with a whopping .2 weight loss in the last three weeks. Ugh.

Exercise has been difficult with a low back injury that is slowly healing. I guess I need to be patient.

eptr, hang in there … I’m needing a reset, too. I re-committed starting today as my cupcake binge set me back. I hope your back heals soon.

Wednesday check in
I am down about 1/2 lb from last week but I am not thrilled with myself. I have not tracked my food in almost two weeks and my exercise is way down. I also have been slipping in bread during the week.
Add me in to the reset bunch.
Good job to those packing healthy snacks for the car trips. That is something I have done over the last year or so. When we eat healthy in the car we don’t get that afternoon slump on the drive. Where we have had an issue is on the return trip home. When we don’t leave from our house we don’t make the effort to pack the snacks.
Back to myfitnesspal tomorrow

Hello. Okay, this is our weekend sprint. I am only 2.5 lbs down as of Monday from the 5 pound goal for next week, but I floundered in my cupcake splurge last week. I have been very focussed this week, so am still hopeful for the 5 lb challenge.

Who is still with me on this thing?

I am !
I am finding the support helpful.

Okay, mom60, you are tagged as my potential phone-a-friend … We can do it! Water, exercise, and healthy meals with yummy vegetables. I will check in each day for the sprint.

close to 25 lbs on WW, and continuing to exercise 5-6 x per week, treadmill and bike mostly, along with water aerobics. spent a long weekend away and fell off track for a couple days and it is frustrating getting back on board, but I’m happy to say I keep getting back on…good healthy changes have become new habits.

Lindz, what a success! Keep up the great work and thanks for being one of several dedicated ones to set the pace, even if we all do slide a little here or there.

Thank you snowflake, very nice of you…one day at a time

Just as well I didn’t sign in for the 5 lb because my weight is going the other way. I’ve been trying to regain my portion and self control on eating but it doesn’t seem to help. I’d like to tell myself that it’s because all the therapy on my ankle is creating (heavy) muscles. But I also suspect the lack of aerobic exercise might have changed my metabolism a bit. I’m going to try to reintroduce some of that - tried a longer faster walk today than I’ve been able to do before and it seemed OK. Oh well - if I could lose all that weight once, I should be able to stop it from coming back.

At least my new size 12 pants still fit - wore them for the first time last night.

Marilyn, you have a lot on your plate, don’t worry about the 5 lb challenge this month. When you are back to being able to exercise, we will be here for you.

I can’t say I have been too successful with this. The stress of dealing with my elderly parents has me reaching for my comfort foods. I have been keeping up with my running. I have a trip this week to my parents’ and hope to make a fresh start when I get back.

I’ve been going the other direction too. I had lost 20 pounds earlier this year. Now I’ve gained 8 of them back. So, I’ve gained 3 more pounds since this challenge started. This is crazy. I feel like an animal stuffing itself, getting ready for winter. Maybe tomorrow will be the day I start going back the other way? Yikes! Seriously, why is this so hard for me?

Take a few moments to examine what’s going wrong. Make a list. “I’m eating too many carbs for breakfast”. “I haven’t been to the gym or outside for a walk in two weeks.”. “My mom is in the hospital and I’m spending all my free time there”.

Then look at each of those items and see what you can control and what you can’t. In MOST instances, you can take control of the issue - the thing is, WILL YOU? Pick one or two of the problems to start working on today - not next week!

(and when you’re making that list of roadblocks, all make a list of all the GOOD things you are doing for your health!!! )

abasket - Good ideas!

Sometimes when I think that I have been eating unhealthy, once I track it and realize that I am still within my extra points (following WW) for the week, then I feel much better. Instead of thinking “I’ve blown it, might as well eat like a pig”, I think to myself “It’s okay, I can handle it”. So far when this happens, I have been able to get right back on track.

One meal at a time. We make so many food choices during our day. And activity choices.
