Weight Loss for Dummies

I’m new to this thread, so I apologize if this comment has already been addressed, but I know many people who have had a lot of success with Wheatbelly. The logic behind it makes sense to me too.

I have the Fitbit Ultra, which is no longer available, have had it for about two years and wear it every day. I’ll probably get the Fitbit One when this one wears out or breaks…it has a few cracks. I aim for 10,000 steps a day.

This morning I rode my bike for 17 miles! Love my bike!

I have the Fitbit that clips on to clothes (waistbands, bra’s) and it has an alarm feature. As long as I am getting 8 hours of good sleep regularly, I don’t use it for sleeping. H has the Fitbit with the non-recalled wristband and he also loves that. The Fitbit that was recalled had a wristband that caused irritation on skin. The wristband type is nice because you never have to take it off, even if you tip over in the ocean while fishing. ;)

We both use them and try to get 10,000 steps a day, which is a 5k run for sure, but even a nice walk can rack up the step counts. In general, more movement is good to set your hormones up for accurate eating signals.

I actually liked the force a lot. Didnt have any trouble with the rash that people were getting, but the band was poorly designed and it kept falling off. They were going to send me a new one but then it was recalled, so that killed that…

My recent stomach bug and day or 2 of suppressed appetite helped break the stuck point. Still needing to lose 6 1/2 to 8 lbs (8 would be my ultimate goal, 6 1/2 to where I was a year ago) or 4 to get back to my weight when I married 30 years ago.

Welcome to our newbies! This atrocious weather had me running on the treadmill yesterday; the heat index was 100 degrees.

I had hoped to be a couple pounds lighter before vacation. DS will be married the first weekend (6/29) and my friends D the second. In between we’ll shoot up to Maine for a few days. Hopefully I can avoid doing too much damage.

Went to the gym today and signed up for my first session with the trainer! Stay tuned.

Very cool, jym! Keep us posted.

Thanks, snowflake. My s’s got me 8 sessions as my birthday gift. Looking forward to it!

That’s a great gift, Jym. I’ll be interested in hearing how things go with the trainer. I’m considering trying some sessions.

I finally got back on track. I have lost 9.0 pounds in just under six weeks (I started losing weight last November, then backslid for awhile). I joined a CrossFit gym. I signed up for five individual sessions with a trainer. I never thought I would be lifting weights above my head! Thank goodness the trainer is a patient, good instructor. I think I am a challenge for her, ha! My plan is to run M, W, F mornings and do CrossFit T, Th, and Sat mornings. We leave for South Africa six weeks from today, and I want to look good for the trip!

Wow, Maine … You will look very fit for your trip. I am impressed.

sabaray- I really think the Garmin Vivofit is the best of the fitness trackers UNLESS you need the backlight or vibration feature. The plus of the Vivofit is that the battery lasts a year so you don’t have to charge it every week. From all the reviews I read before I got a fitness tracker (which I now can’t use while I’m on crutches), the Vivofit is generally the best. They all have plusses and minuses. My daughter and son in law came to the same conclusion after research and also got the Vivofit.

Thanks, MOWC. I knew you had mentioned yours on our thread but I’m having a difficult time with searches. The year battery is a real plus.

Well, finally broke through being stuck. Am half way to my goal but its taken a LONG time. First training session is this morning. I dreamt that I decided to park my car far away and walk, and missed the session.

Awesome, Jym!!! I lost another pound and half this week. Looking forward to school ending so that I can work out more (well, not really looking forward to working out more but looking forward to a more flexible schedule).

Congrats, Jym! I bet that the training sessions will help get things moving. I’m doing better now that I’ve increased my daily exercise.

Sabaray, I’ve had the Fitbit One and Flex. I liked the read-out on the clip-on One, but didn’t like having to move it when I changed clothes, and lost it when it fell off one day. I’m finding that the Flex bracelet is easier but you need to check your phone to see your steps. Fitbit has some nice online tools that allows you join groups of other Fitbit users. I’m a group with people from my WW class which has been very motivating. It is a pain in the neck to recharge the battery every 5 days, so the one that MOWC recommended might be a better choice for your H.

Yes, the fitBit that clips on has to be moved to different clothes, so several times I have left it on my running shorts and my movement for the rest of the day isn’t counted.

The other thing that was a “must have” for me was a display right on the device, which the Vivofit has.

Training session one- done. Nice guy. Not too hard. Whiny 19 year old followed me as the next victim, err I mean client. Made me feel good :)

My trainer is a woman just a year older than I. (This is a second career for her.) When I started I sort of dreaded going every week; it was hard and I was pretty pathetic. I intended to work out on my own a second day each week but I never managed the same intensity. Last December I added a second weekly workout with my trainer and it has made all the difference. This is the first time in my life I’ve been really strong. I love it.

My trainer has ovarian cancer. She went through a grueling chemo regimen last year and never missed a session except when she was out of town for the treatments. There is no way I’m going to whine around her.
