I often try to do exercises with weights during commercial breaks when I watch tv.

Eek - bumped from page 10. I’m guessing we all enjoyed our Thanksgiving feast so kept off this thread. I was relieved this morning to discover that I’d only gained 1.3 pounds in the last week, less than I expected. It’s so hard to get back to the good routines; I lost track with the broken ankle last year and never really regained it unfortunately.

The contract on our house made it through review with all of our changes accepted, much to my surprise, and we’re supposed to close in 10 days. Then we have up to six months to move out. We’re flying out to San Diego on Saturday to look at a few houses; I don’t think we’ll end up offering for any of them but it’s a start! If we have time I hope to get some beach walking done but house search is the priority. We may end up needing to come out for a month or two to be ready to jump on homes as they come on the market. Or DH will decide he’s changed his mind and we start from scratch! :((

My husband’s bloodwork back in October showed high cholesterol and borderline diabetic. The doctor told him to lose about 22 lbs so we began a weight loss plan. I have packed on pounds little by little over the years, so it was time for me to make a solid effort. I have yo yo dieted over the last decade.
I used to teach aerobic classes when my older girls were little.
Because of some issues with my back, I can no longer do a lot of exercising without risk of injury.
Last winter, I invested in a Nordic Track incline trainer ( yes the one from the infomercials with Jillian Michaels ) I have had another Nordic Track treadmill for years but it seems a bit limited.
The newer one is awesome , especially since I can manage to use it without injury !
I have lost 15 lbs since mid- October between the workouts and eating better.
My ultimate goal is to drop 30 more. Little steps for me , but I really want it to become a lifetime plan, not just something I do to fit into smaller clothing.
Holidays are tough . I didn’t weigh in this week because if I see any gain, or even same number, it will affect my mood too much

Congrats Lje … Sounds like you are in a roll!

Marilyn, San Diego sounds wonderful; good luck with house hunting.

Happy New Year. Today I begin again.
As do I! I started today with a 7 minute workout app.
Lots of delicious food and drink was had over the last month, and I don’t regret it a bit.
This week would be a good time to do a complete cupboard/pantry/freezer/refrigerator clean out! Toss or give away the rest of the Christmas cookies/candy/dips/crackers, etc. - really, you WON’T miss them!
( If you can’t bear to throw them away, give them to a needy or elderly neighbor, take them into work and stick them in the work room or put on your FB page that you are having a “calorie give away”!!!)
Abasket- cookies went in the trash yesterday.
Good ideas, abasket!
This holiday season, I ate crap, exercised very little… I am miraculously at the same weight as I was before the holidays, but I need to shed the 2 pounds that take me to the upper acceptable weight limit - I do not want to carry them on my rear end for 26 miles when I run my next marathon. Carbs off!
Hi all - still struggling to maintain after a lot of indulgences (actually, like BB, lucky I am even maintaining) and am going to try and reintroduce my old good practices. In other business, our house is sold! We didn’t find our house in SD but the realtor is positive something will come on the market soon (now that she really understands what we want). Yesterday I took a virtual walk on Google map from a house we can’t afford to an ocean overlook - does that count?
Alright WLFD folks. It’s the first of the year the time when so many jump on the fitness wagon - only to fall off in a few weeks. Want to stay on the wagon this time? PLEASE read this article - it says SO much about fitness, emotions, meeting a fitness goal and not meeting a fitness goal. You don’t need to weigh 250 pounds to relate to the thoughts shared in this article. This was me too at many times in my life. Her 39 years old and learning to run was me at age 53. Tape it on the refrigerator if you need to.
Has anyone done the Insanity program? I started last year, and never felt so fit in my life. I finished the program and now doing more of a mix of Insanity, P90, and HIIT workouts, I think high interval trainings are what boosts not only weight lost but building muscle and getting toned!
As for nutrition, haven’t changed a lot, since i was already, imo, eating in a good manner (no snacks, balanced meal, etc.)
My D did the insanity program a few years ago. She can be intense in her workouts. She didn’t lose any weight though till she actually began to eat more.
Got out for some exercise most days this week. I am also aware of what I am eating. Hoping to see the scale creep back down.
No surprises. When I eat bread I gain. Leave it out I am better off.
Hope all are surviving the winter. We are having a mini heat wave and I have no excuses to not get out and enjoy the sunshine.
Sounds like you are getting past the holidays, @mom60, keep it up!
I am doing better on eating because I am back at work, which makes me wonder how I’ll do later in life when I’m retired. I am also exercising much better because it is cross country ski season here. Did a nice, long, slow one today.
Happy 2015!
I am more of a runner as I feel most comfortable running. Also, I have heard from many that running is a full body exercise and helps you stay fit for a longer time. However, I am not very good at it. Many of the times I flinch if the weather is not good and the worst thing is I find giving myself so many excuses. I follow http://www.runnersworld.com/pdfsignup/6306/57002 many times to motivate myself and run at least thrice a week, but in between work, kids, their food, homework help, I sometime feel really lost and lack the energy to go out! While speaking about being lost, is anyone aware of this game app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.KnowledgeAdventure.NFLHuddle and can tell me whether it would be appropriate for 4-6 year olds to play? This happen to be my latest challenge to play with the kids at home! Anyways, coming back to the topic of weight loss. I have managed to lost some considerable pounds and find my legs better toned after I have started following a regular running routine for last 3 months. But like I said, many times it has happened that I have desperately tried to skip a day’s run giving myself excuses.
@elizabeth1970, you should come join us on the Diet/Nutrition thread - lots of runners, bikers, exercisers there - of ALL levels! Quite a few of us started running recently - myself at age 53 - several of us used the Couch To 5K program successfully. Please, stop by there as well and introduce yourself - SO much expertise there for newbies and more experienced!!!

This is such an inspiration @abasket! Thanks for the info. For myself I am taking a week off from mmy running routine and would start again from next week. So, meanwhile I believe all these info and suggestions would help me to devise a plan for myself and stick to that. Thanks
@elizabeth1970 You don’t always have to run; you can do indoor exercises like the app called “Seven” which is a basic series of jumping jacks, push-ups, step ups and planks that will work other muscle groups. The best part is you can do it in 7 minutes while in your family room in your PJ’s.
Snowflake- going to look into Seven. I often listen to a podcast on my walk that I think came through you. Healthbridge- where East meets West. I don’t always 100% agree with all of it but I have learned a lot.
I roasted a chicken yesterday and have leftovers. Something I have found helpful is to make enchiladas for H and I in small individual Le Creuset ovals. For H I will include corn tortillas but for mine I will use vegetables or beans with the chicken, enchilada sauce and cheese.
So far I am having a good week.
Welcome Elizabeth.
Yeeks, we’ve dropped out of sight!
Bumping this thread for jolting myself to get back on target. Barely holding my own after a long cold winter. And speaking of barely, we finally got an offer accepted on a house in San Diego - with a swimming pool, no less. If I’m going to be hanging around in a swimsuit, I need to work on the hanging parts! It will be a one mile walk to the ocean with lots of hill in the way so if all goes well, by summer I’ll be taking long morning walks and afternoon swims. We haven’t actually seen the house in person; flying out next week to make sure we like it live as well as in pictures.
