Weight Loss for Dummies

Yay! A partner in crime. I ate too much today. Will reset tomorrow. Glad folks are here.

I weighed myself and am fine from the travel, but exercised today and have lost my endurance. Definitely could not keep up with my friends.

Back at it we go!

Kicking us to the top.
It’s Monday time to reset as Jym suggested.
SnowflakeVT- good to see you back. I also find that weight is not as big a deal at this point as endurance and also in my case my core has suffered since I fell off the exercise wagon. I had a scary sight when I viewed a picture taken from the side. Abs need a lot of work!

No official exercise this week since I seem to have injured the top of one foot and it hurts to put my weight on it. still have to clean and shop for Passover though so I won’t get to sit around. The good thing is that the house is almost cleaned out of regular carbs so I can’t overindulge. Bad thing is next week starts the matzah and butter cycle.

Marilyn- I bet your feet just want to be in California. Sorry you are in pain.
I love matzah and butter but I am going to try to avoid it.
I need some good breakfast ideas. I usually do oatmeal but I am over it. Today I had 1/2 cup of plain greek yogurt with a tablespoon of trader joes peanut butter with chia seeds.

Mom60 that sounds like a delicious smoothie start. I add to that 1/4 cup or so of unsweetened coconut milk in the smoothie blender and then take it with me. If I need more calories or protein I add frozen fruit and/or some protein powder.

I definitely find that I trim up faster when I eat breakfast. I can’t do just oatmeal as it doesn’t last and depending on what I add to it it could get carb heavy.

Need to get on the treadmill before The Voice!

Breakfast ideas:
mini crustless quiches baked in muffin tins
apple slices with crunchy natural peanut butter
apple slices with cheddar cheese bites
an omelet with diced onion, jalapeno, red pepper and a dash of cheese
whole milk yogurt with fresh fruit, a teaspoon of jam and a sprinkle of granola
a whole grain tortilla spread thinly with PB and topped with diced fresh strawberries and chopped almonds - roll it up!
homemade oatmeal cookie with dried fruit and nuts and a glass of skim milk

Hi everyone! Ouch, marilyn! Hope you are feeling better!
The scale has been all over the place lately, but I am back into writing down what I eat, which is (a) a start and (b) eye opening. I went to the trainer today for an hour, so that helps. And its warming up, finally, so can do more outdoors.

I like the mini crust less quiche idea
I never think of putting peanut or almond butter in a smoothie.
I don’t have a problem with oatmeal keeping me full till lunch. I used to eat it every morning for about the last three years but lately I just don’t feel like it. I eat mine plain.

Just watch the amount of PB you use. You don’t want to end up with 1/4 cup being used for smoothie/apple slices/whatever!!!

I am pretty careful with my serving size. Over-eating is not a problem for me on most occasions. My downfall is once I start eating breads or pasta I want it. And adding a couple of pieces of bread a day on several days a week can slowly put weight back on.
I am also back to tracking what I eat.

Some food for thought:

Well, 14-1500 cal/day made me GAIN weight. Today I ate 1200 cal. I need to step up the exercise.

Jym, for me, I need to walk 10,000 steps a day or jog a 5K run if I want to lose weight while eating 1500 calories a day.

Also, if your calories are real food that you spread throughout the day and you sleep at least 8 hours a day, you maybe able to eat more since your hormones will be more naturally balanced.

Sleep + healthy foods + 10,000 steps = leaner human

I did my steps today … The Vermont snow is melting so I can start my outdoor walking for the year. Yay for Spring!

If I limit white carbs I can stay around 1200 calories and I don’t feel starved.

Here is some good advice on snacking etc.:

You should never feel starved! You might feel like you want “more” if you are drastically cutting down, but you MUST choose foods that are nutritionally filling and you MUST eat 3 meals and even a snack or two AND exercise. Exercise is not just for losing weight it is for toning - which can make more physical difference than losing poundage.

My breakfast is one egg half an English muffin or half a small bagel. A tiny bit of jam and cream cheese on the bagel. It keeps me going till lunch time which oatmeal doesn’t. It’s the only bread I eat, but if I don’t eat it then I crave it all day.

Breakfast today was 2 eggs scrambled with about a cup of baby kale, chard and spinach. I used Pam today but I prefer butter. I love an egg sandwich but I find even one piece of bread triggers me.
I feel better and more energized if I eat 1200 well thought out calories. I think I am also able to do this since I don’t use any sweetener or cream in my coffee. I drink my iced tea unsweetened and don’t drink juice. I am happy with water or iced tea.
Also key for me is to not put off lunch beyond 1. If I reach early afternoon and I am out and have not eaten I reach a point where I make bad choices. A few crackers can turn into 1/2 the box.
I have 1 day a week I am in my car much of the day. I am fine if I bring a lunch but sometimes it just doesn’t happen. I can stop in the grocery store to grab something. Last week I grab a cheese stick and an apple. I wanted to buy some nuts but they were outrageously expensive.
A reminder to myself to put a container of nuts in the car.
I designate Friday as the day I allow myself bread and potato or flour tortilla. That way I don’t feel deprived.
Abasket- toning is what I need.
