Weight Loss for Dummies

45 min bike today
salmon and butternut squash for dinner

I wish I liked salmon.
Mathmom- I like the idea of checking new cookbooks out of the library.
I made it out for a walk. I didn’t let a light rain be my excuse.

A new cookbook club has started at the library. We check out a book once a month and cook something from it. This month is appetizers. Should be fun. I did weights in the basement for about 45 minutes. I also finally got the TRX set up down there. So I did some stuff with that. Need to clear out more area around it.

Tonight we had broiled boneless leg of lamb and roasted cauliflower. The lamb had been marinating for days in garlic, lemon and olive oil. So good. So easy.

Yummm!

I ran for on the treadmill for 15 minutes straight this morning. That’s the most yet. A month ago I could go 2 minutes tops!

Way to go, fallgirl!

Did another hour of Zumba today! ohmygosh, I think I’m liking it.

VaBluebird- my friend has lost 30 lbs in the last few years from doing Zumba. She also has made a whole new group of friends. She keeps trying to get me to go. I’m hesitant since I have absolutely no rhythm.
Day 3 of getting out an walking with a bit of jogging thrown in. Eating well and feeling good.
Tried another new to me recipe. Mashed cauliflower- steamed in a small amount of chicken broth, drained and put in food processor with small amount of butter and plain Greek yogurt. Tasted like potato.
I just received in the mail some vegetable green protein power. Any smoothie recipes?

Does anyone know if the Fitbits with heart rate monitor are accurate as to calories used during “activity”?

I consider it a very general guide, cf, since the steps aren’t accurate and it doesn’t know my weight.

Today is our last day on the slopes. Time flies. It dumped snow yesterday.

Fun time on the slopes.
Ate more than usual, and those ladies handing out warm chocolate chip cookies at the end of the day was hard to resist, though we shared. Last nights dinner was Mexican food. Oh well. I got plenty of exercise.

I haven’t had any weight changes but did walk close to two miles on the beach after PT this afternoon. (As an added benefit a couple of Padres players were getting therapy at the same time as me.) We’ve been celebrating Restaurant Week but tomorrow I get started on my first crown at the dentist so probably won’t be eating much for a day or so.

Jym626- I think most of us would have a hard time resisting a hot chocolate chip cookie. The key for me is to just have 1. Now my H would just have 1/2 or a 1/4 of the cookie. That is why he weighs the same as he did at 20. Mexican food is worth a splurge. My favorite type of food.
Marilyn- I’m happy you’re enjoying your new hometown.
I feel good. Accomplished my fitness and eating goals for Mom-Thursday. Friday I lunch with H and I will go off my low carb and have bread or a tortilla. We split so it’s not that bad.
I am trying to explore new foods. I found a recipe for a chia pudding on a blog I sometimes follow. I used unsweetened cashew milk, chia seed, a dash of maple syrup, dash of vanilla extract and unsweetened cacao powder. Put it is a mason car, shake and refrigerate overnight. the first few bites was an adjustment to the texture but after a few bites I enjoyed it. It was nice to just grab and go. I don’t have a big sweet tooth so I didn’t mind it not being very sweet. If anyone is interested I can post the recipe.

I plan to get back on track when (if??) I get home tomorrow. Its warmer and drier in Denver than where I live!

Well, made it home and am doing a boatload of laundry. Could have done some at the ski condos but it wasn’t high on the priority list (DH did a little bit). Gained a pound over the week, which could be a combination of the exercise, food consumption, water retention, normal fluctuation, or any combination. The gym at the hotel in town was actually very impressive, but, alas, I preferred to sleep in a bit and then spend time with friends for the 2 days I was in town.

Knees still hurt so am not going to the gym today (so haven’t exercised other than walk, since Thursday when we got off the slopes at the end of the day. How is everyone else doing? Shoveling snow is good exercise!

One pound gain over a vacation–I think that’s great!

Weekly check in:

Exercise: one day of yoga (goal is 3)
One day of cardio (goal is 3)

Food: 6 days vegan (met goal)
Processed sugar limited to one day (met goal)

Weight: lost 3 lbs. (total of 10 since New Years)

Congrats, gcmom!! Way to go!!

We hit the supermarket on our way home from the airport last night, and I did buy one bad thing (yes, I know, don’t go shopping hungry) but I plan to get back on track.

Glad shoveling snow is a good workout because since Friday night H and I have done 6 rounds of shoveling just keeping up!

The absolute worst time for me to grocery shop is when I’m starving. Jym- I doubt you gained. Eating out always makes the scale go up due to the sodium in the food. I bet a few days home and you will be back where you were. Or maybe even down a lb or 2.
I think shoveling counts for cardio and strength training.
Weekly check in-
Exercise-7 days. It is a push but I’m making myself get out. Today I switched up my route and did one that had more uphill portions. Pt exercises 5 out of 7
I found on the Facebook page of a friend a link to a local fitness guru. She had a challenge of just adding a 10 minute challenge after your walk or run. In 10 minutes she challenges you to do as many reps as you can of 4 exercises. 20 Jumping jacks, 20 leg march, 10 each side elbow to raised knees to work obliques, 20 crunches and repeat. She shows two different levels of each task. Did this 5 out of 7 days.
Diet- made good choices all week. healthy proteins, more vegetables and few high calorie carbs.
Weight loss- 3 lbs but I’m sure it is mainly water weight.
Challenge for the coming week- book club tonight. Chinese lunch with a friend mid week. Keeping up the exercise momentum.

I think skiing burns a lot of calories. JYM, you’ll wake up back at your before weight.

I ate out twice today and expect fluctuation. I was with my friend and his daughter, who eats everything she wants: dumplings at the Japanese restaurant, gelato, kniShes. A bite of each is beyond my norm.
