Today’s exercise was shoveling snow. Made two different sorts of soup for lunch. One was chickpea and rosemary, the other cabbage, bulgur and harissa. Both pretty good. I reorganized my pantry today and found some old stuff. So we are eating our game hens with a sauced with roasted red peppers today! Slowly getting back to pre-holiday weight.
Went out with a group for a birthday dinner last night. Lots of sharing of appetizers and dessert (I had 2 small bites of dessert). Today is back to healthy eating.
OK so on Saturday H had a hankering for caramel/cinnamon rolls (which he makes from scratch - a maternal family baked recipe) - they are like fresh Cinabunn’s - so he made them, with the idea that the large pan (18) would go to my Sunday adult ed class, and he would eat from the small pan (9). I ate 1/2 of one on Sat and 1/2 of one on Sun. Two from the small pan went to our neighbor H/W; H took a day off his diet on Sat and ate 6.5! Sunday I had to stop for groceries after adult ed - there were 3 left in the pan; instead of waiting to get home (microwave 10 sec for delicious like fresh baked) H ate one in the car. The last two he took to his rocket hobby friend, who ate them immediately after H left (texted him they were delicious). Every so often H makes up a pan to take into work. He uses Robin Hood flour and also adds some wheat gluten. So he weighed himself today - he is 11 lbs over his goal. H ran 4 miles on Sunday. He believes he can continue to lose a lb a week (he has actually lost 11 or 12 lb since 1/1).
I have a lot going on, and if I can stick to the diet and get down 5 more lbs, then I will start being earnest with adding exercise to ‘break thru’ my last plateau which I hit with exercise but wasn’t as good with the dieting at that point - for me, I have to get the dieting down, because I fatigue and cannot exercise enough to make grand losses - I have to do baby steps.
Good job JYM with staying on the plan.
We have a dinner out next Saturday with a group. Thai food. Will have to study the menu on-line…
I was doing well being snowed in…until today. The good thing is that I walked /ran on the treadmill, am planning to do more shoveling later as well as stream a yoga video. Currently the only thing I am shoveling is carbs- and they are going into my mouth. I am making tea shortly in the hopes that it will stop this.
Everyone is doing great! Just keep looking at all the positive changes and attitudes.
We still have some ‘fat burning cabbage soup’ which is a lot of veggies in a tomato/veg broth. Tired of hot tea. Also drinking water with lemon wedge. I have to keep thinking about low calorie things to put in my mouth, lol.
Hang in everyone!
I am in my exercise clothes but haven’t made it to the gym… so light work out on the elliptical. Have been pretty good all day but got really hungry and had a bowl of cereal. Not the best choice, but not the worst.
I don’t like to snack on to many carbs, so I try to make sure the house is stocked with things I’ll want to eat if I am hungry. (Hummus and carrot sticks that are already cut up for example, or plain yogurt and fruit, or even vegetable soup.) Frequently if I just have a cup of decaf, I’ll discover I’m not really hungry after all.
Funny, I am about to make a cup of coffee. I’d been snacking on raw string beans and tzatziki yogurt dip, and it just wasnt doing the truck. I hope to get back into avoiding the carbs as I had for a month. I did have some carbs on the ski trip and last night. Will try better tomorrow.
When I am hungry and want a snack, I make avocado toast. (guacamole)
You guys are so inspiring! Can I join the accountability team? After not being able to walk pain free for about a year I finally went to PT this summer for Achilles issues and was able to start walking again in November. I’ve lost over 15 pounds since then and still have a ways to go. Started the Dash Diet a couple of weeks ago which really helped. My goals are at least 10,000 steps a day and eating much better than I have been. Now that my daughter is back at school and not baking cookies or brownies at night, hopefully the going will be easier!
Welcome!!!
I’ve been trying to get in 10,000 steps a day. But it is really hard. I work out 5 days a week for at least 45 or so minutes. On the days I work out , I go to work, park a fair distance away from my office, walk up and down several times to my third floor office, teach standing up for 3 hours in a row and can still get only about 8000 steps. On weekends, my break from working out, I have a hard time making 5000.
Not really sure how to add more w/o dedicating more time to exercise or walking. But I don’t have the time!
If I’m really hungry for a snack I’ll sometimes put a tablespoon of almond butter on a banana. I also had from Costco individual snack packs by Sargento. They had nuts, dried fruit and cheese cubes. It wasn’t a lot of food but again it felt filling.
If I was snowed in I would feel the urge to bake and eat carbs. Since I live on the coast of Ca I’m extremely unlikely to get a snow day. When I’m cold I want carbs and protein not vegetables.
I got lucky. My dinner host last night cancelled. I had a change of schedule and I’ve had to cancel my Chinese food lunch for Wednesday. I am in a stage where I really do best eating at home.
SOSconcern- those cinnamon rolls sound wonderful. I would not be able to stop at one
This evening I was craving something sweet after dinner. I stopped buying cookies and baked goods after the holidays. The only thing I had that was sweet was peanut butter that I had bought in case we lost power during the snow storm. I found out today peanut butter with sliced apples tastes pretty good. Whenever I think I want to eat something I first drink a big glass of water. ( I am one of those that carries a bottle of water with me wherever I go)
I hadn’t thought about peanut butter on apple slices, I have both in the house right now. That might keep me away from the carbs. Thanks, raclut.
mom60- It’s really hard to stay away from the carbs when you are snowed in. I was god until yesterday (day 3) then I caved. Still snowed in today so far.
morrisnm - I also find the 10K steps a challenge. I try to get up and wak around as much as possible in the office but unless I do treadmill or get outside (not likely right now
), I can’t make it. And forget it when I work from home.
I love peanut butter on apple slices. I sometimes put apple slices (very thin) on top of an English muffin with peanut butter on it for breakfast - protein, carbs and fruit all in one. Haven’t done that lately as I’m really trying to cut down/out carbs.
The 10K steps only works for me if I walk on the treadmill so I now do that every day for about an hour. I was adding more steps when I could get the dogs out for a walk but it’s been too cold for that lately. And I’ve been known to just walk around inside the house to get to 10K before I go to bed. The puppy follows me around as I do my circles. It’s really funny since she has no idea what I’m doing!
Ate breakfast and lunch and still feeling hungry. Grrrrrr!
I had the type of Fitbit that you clipped on. Depending on whether it was on my bra or my pocket I would get different step counts. It eventually died. I’ve considered getting another step counter but haven’t done it yet. My D has a garmin wrist one that she said isn’t super accurate since if she talks with her hands it thinks she is walking. I’ve been using the Health App on the IPhone and I don’t find it is that accurate step wise. It does give me a baseline to strive for.
I love peanut butter with either apple or banana. A really good snack.
So, dh managed to get himself shoveled out yesterday by making two tracks up the drive for the Jeep, so today he took me to the gym. I did 20 minutes bike and then had my 30 minute training session. Good workout, I feel it.
He is working tomorrow so if I want to go anywhere, I’ll have to shovel out behind my garage space and the middle mound in the drive as my car won’t clear it and I really don’t think that is going to happen, LOL.
