I have given my fitness pal a good try, but may go back to livestrong for tracking.
I’ve been running into more and more articles about the dangers of sitting too much. I’ve even read that fidgeting a lot is better than a little intensive exercise. Sitting is bad for heart, bones, and internal organs.
Suggestions include:
-standing while watching tv or at least walking around during commercials
- take a five minute walking break for every half hour of sitting
-stand at your workstation or use an exercise ball instead of a chair
I wonder if fiddling with a devise is as good as fidgeting? I think I’ll stand up now…
@SouthJerseyChessMom, wonderful results! so happy for you.
I, too, love roasted veggies and especially the combination you gave.
Keep up the good work.
@SouthJerseyChessMom - I took your idea and roasted a bunch of vegetables tonight. I’ll use the leftovers for a snack or lunch.
Tuesday is my challenge day. I’m usually finishing up a commitment around 1 and I sometimes stop to do an errand or two on my way home. If I don’t remember to bring a lunch I get into a crazed starved state. Today I stopped at Costco. Every tester was a carb or contained seafood or fish which I don’t like. I was tempted to get a hot dog. Instead I pulled it together and bought a bottle of water and rinsed off a few cocktail cucumbers and a few handfuls of blueberries. It held me till I got home and had a bit of protein.
Last night I made a recipe my D sent me. A variation on PFChangs lettuce wrap. I used ground white meat chicken and they were delicious. I think the calorie count was pretty reasonable. They were delicious today cold. Sodium was probably on the high end but I don’t eat a lot of salty foods in general so I don’t feel guilty. Served them with roasted asparagus drizzled I a tiny bit of sesame oil. A small amount delivers big flavor. Made H some quinoa.
I picked up butternut squash, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower at Coatco for roasting. I also bought organic strawberries and blueberries. The blueberries were delicious.
Guilty pleasure this week has been 2 squares of Lindt Intense Orange dark chocolate.
@Marilyn those are some good suggestions
Ha! So much for my bragging. Only lost 1/2 lb this week. I guess my calculations didn’t want to cooperate this week, LOL.
P.S. I’ll take the 1/2 lb. As long as I’m not going up.
Well good news, I’ve kept up exercising, though today was just about 45 min in the gym. I am running slower on the treadmill so can go longer distances before walking a bit. Today was 31 minutes, 2.26 mile. Then some machine stuff. So am trying to maintain exercising 3-4 times/week. But, since I ran into problems with. Myfitnesspal, and haven’t gone back yet to livestrong, I haven’t been tracking what I eat and have been taking liberties. I have healthy stuff (Frits/Vegas) but also allowed carbs back into my life. DS#1 and wife will be in town this weekend, and her birthday is coming up. We have dinner reservations Fri night att her favorite place, and, well maybe this is a good thing, the white chocolate/raspberry/buttercream specialty cake I ordered for her birthday that I HAD to pick up today due to scheduling challenges tomorrow and Fri-- they put the order in the wring folder and forgot to make it. So, no cake (it was overpriced anyway!)
L-Carnitine would be a useful supplement to add into your routine. It helps turn fatty acid chains into atp. Works best with excercise. So check it out:)
A friend used to take l-carnitine and it made him smell like fish
@jym626 sure he wasn’t taking fish oil;)
Kidding, but l-carnitine is a naturally occuring vitamin/amino acid like substance. We get it from red meat. It just helps turn fatty acids into atp.
So that would seem like an implausible side effect.
L-carnitine increases the rate of carbohydrate and fatty acids oxidation in the mitochondria which results in increased energy available for exercise or athletic endeavors. Normally, our bodies synthesize it in adequate amounts and it is also contained in animal based foods. However, 20 years of research has not resulted in any consistent evidence that L-carnitine supplements benefits athletic performance. Peer reviewed studies go both ways and are not conclusive. If taken as a supplement, it is generally safe but may cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea in some individuals and doses. It can also cause a fishy body odor at doses of about 3 gms/day. And like so many other supplements in what is an unregulated cash cow industry, it is guaranteed to give you very expensive urine.
Just bought new running shoes. It’s been a long time.
My Fitbit has fine, had change to DST, but then it completely died. And not the iPad and phone app are trying to do an update and it isn’t working. And now the Fitbit is an hour off. And neither app has successfully updated. Ach. I will try Abasket’s suggestion when one of these things completes its app update. Anyone else having this issue?
There was a new update for Charge HR this weekend - do you have a Charge HR? You should probably fully charge your Fitbit first and then see if it will update along with the app or ipad.
I recharged it but it’s probably at only about 90% or so. Both the iPhone and iPad updates are failing to install
Did you close out all your apps - including the Fitbit app (you know, do the swipe up). Then open the app and try again.
Hi abasket. Yes I closed the apps, even hard reset the phone and ipad. For a while the bluetooth wouldn’t sync with ipad but did on phone. Now its not syncing with my phone!! (its just spinning). I recharfged the fitbit all the way, and at some point it fixed itself with respect to the time (its on daylight savings again now) but it still wont sync and the apps won’t update. Grrrr
I tried that hard reset of the Charge HR- it gave me a V220 code (or something like that) not a V30, but it still isnt syncing. And the bluetooth isnt responding.
Quiet in here. Life has gotten in the way for me in the past 2 weeks, with company and meals out, etc. did still work out about twice a week but I think I found a pound or two. I just finished 60 min on the treadmill - 4.24 miles and am now doing some weights. Trying to get back on track.
Got back a week ago from an all inclusive resort. I am sure I gained a pound or …? H and I did walk a lot at the resort. But the food and drink offers was much more than the excerise offers.
But now back to working out at least 5 days a week and trying to get 10,000 steps each day. Oh, and eating and drinking less!
