Weight Loss for Dummies

So . . . logged my food on MFP today. Major achievement on my part!

You either have to log your food or say ‘no’ to yourself a lot during the day and head count the calorie intake for the day. Getting more active, but need to overcome on the food intake part. Next time I eat out, I either will split the dinner with H or have them box half of it up at the start.

Who brought the dozen bagels and cream cheese into the house? Ugh.

Just popping in to say that I’m officially a senior today - son is in town to help me celebrate being old. And since weight is remaining steady (which beats going up at least), we are going out for both breakfast and dinner. So there.

And we will probably walk a lot hunting Pokemon.

Lost about two lbs. Ready to try meditation or hypnosis. I just can’t seem to stay motivated.

Great job, @Marilyn!

My weight still isnt quite where I want it to be, but I confess I have not been working all that hard at the dieting. Have been exercising a good amount, though.

After a fun summer without focusing too much on weight loss, I miraculously didn’t gain weight. My very old dog is now okay with me going for a walk without him, so I have been regularly hiking and walking 3-4 times a week which seems to keep the 50-something hormones at bay.

JYM, congrats on the 10K in July. You are awesome!

Happy to see this thread pop back up! After trying a few things this year, I joined WW at the beginning of August and have now lost about 17 lbs. I’m liking the new WW program, which rewards for protein and penalizes for saturated fat and sugar. The app makes it easy, although their database of food is not as good as MFP, I go there a lot to get stats to calculate points.

Also started PT in the summer which is helping my hip pain and resulting in my being much more amenable to exercise.

Feeling good and optimistic!

^impressive @gcmom ! Congrats. What is MFP ?

Great work, @GCmom!
Thanks for the kudos for the 10K @SnowflakeVT . It was never on my radar, and I don’t expect to ever do that again. But I did it. Got the tshirt. DH drops not so subtle suggestions that we do a 5k. I just smile and nod. And say no.

I think MFP is my fitness pal. When I log food intake (should consider restarting that) I use livestrong. Its familiar to me and has my history.

I did some serious walking over the past few days, but we also had an incredible meal thrown in there (no regrets). Well, back to reality now.

Welcome back, everyone.

@SouthJerseyChessMom

Yes, MFP is myfitnesspal. All my stuff is on there, as well as so many more items than WW has, so it’s helpful for figuring out WW smart points, using the nutritional info.

Thanks, ladies!

Bumping this back up. I need the accountability. I haven’t been on the scale but I can tell from my clothing and the mirror that I’ve gained weight. Hip and knee pain had flared but and I just stopped exercising. A few meals of bread became bread at multiple meals in the week.
I’ve had about 6 weeks of PT and I feel he has gotten my spine and pelvis somewhat more aligned resulting in less knee and hip pain. I picked up a couple of cook books at the library that are grain free to jumpstart with some new recipes. I also feel ready to start moving again.
So I’ve said it here, now I need to take some action.
How is everyone else doing?

Hi @mom60!! Thanks for the bump!! I am with ya!! I’ve gained some (just lost motivation to stay on track with the monitoring) but was still lower than at my physical same time last year.

Sorry about your pain! I’ve been pretty good with the exercising but for some reason my fitbit is 5 min slow and I cant figure out how to fix it. I tried rebooting it and that didn’t help. The computer and phone both have the correct time. Its synced to them, but is 5 min slower! Any suggestions?

Jym, I had that same issue. It was resolved in a week when a new firmware update was auto installed. Sync and turning on etc. were not fixing it.

how do I fix it?

You cant fix it, I guess. It is a programming issue. Just wait until the next firmware update.

I had PT this summer for pain due to arthritis in my hip. PT was great! Now that it is over, I have to continue with my stretching and strengthening. I got a little lax and I really felt the difference.

Down about 20 lbs since the beginning of August. Feeling GREAT!

Good for you, GCmom!

I’m holding fairly steady; maybe down a pound or so but nothing significant. I’m about to make a big fall push to balance out all the extra eating - including a two day trip to Las Vegas for our anniversary. I’m still doing a lot of routine walking and nothing in particular is injured or hurting (any more than normal, anyway).

Hi all, I am here to confess that I am being lazy with the excuse that my old dog needs my company. Once I come home from work, I don’t have the heart to exercise without him (he is old and can barely walk, even with two different vet prescribed pain meds). So, my clothes are a little tight, and since I have vowed to not get another dog until I retire, I am spoiling this old guy with love and tenderness for every minute I can. I think that has helped him live longer, at the expense of tighter clothes for me. Oh, well. I am fatter and happy for now.

Your dog needs you, @SnowflakeVT =((
Today was an “eat leftovers and a few snacks intended for the trick or treaters” day. But-- I was able to successfully re-sync the fitbit to my phone (turned the bluetooth off, un-synced it , turned bluetooth back on and re-synced it and it fixed the time!! And I was able to set it so it shows the time AND date. Bingo! And I found something very important that I had misplaced and have been looking for for days. YAYAYAYAYAY.
