Somehow today in Las Vegas, I managed to walk almost 15,000 steps. But my feet are killing me! We are having a great time though.
Just wanted to pop in to report that I finally walked out the front door and down to the ocean and back again - a goal ever since we moved here last year. Just to say I could do it (walk to the ocean, that is). It wasn’t that far - two miles round trip - but very steep hills! My phone said I climbed five flights of stairs but it felt like more.
Great job!! Keep it up!
I had a doctor appointment today and while in the room waiting for the doctor, I read a poster, which is great for all of us on this thread.
“It’s not what you eat from December to January, what matters is what you eat from January to December.”
Enjoy the holidays, everyone!
Bumping this up.
A series of small health issues derailed my healthy living. I have not moved enough and it shows in my pants waist. I also realize that while brisk walking is good I need to work on strength as well. I joined the YMCA this month. I have not belonged to a gym in 25 years preferring to get my exercise outdoors. I went to 2 body sculpting classes last week. Just let me say that some of the “seniors” in the class awed me. I’m starting slow but hoping to stay steady. The hardest thing is realigning my schedule so I can get some classes in. For now I feel I need the direction and accountability of a class with some added cardio after.
I take inspiration from all of you. Wishing everyone a healthy and happy 2017.
^impressive @mom60 love to hear your progress and updates. I find myself grabbing the super comfy yoga pants because waists getting snug on regular pants. Need to include weights in my program, because my walking routine is not enough
Good luck @mom60
I’m always surprised how many women are afraid to use weights. For me I need to do some interval work during cardio and I need to do weights.
If you can only do one weight bearing exercise do goblet squats - at least you’ll be able to use the toilet when you are old!
I lost a lot of weight due to surgery. Lately my goal is to keep it off and build up muscle strength at the same time.
A goal I have this year is to try new things. Yesterday I went to a NIA dance class. I was the youngest participant by far but it was so much fun. Today was my 3rd time at a body sculpting class. Today she had us using a weighed bar, something I had never used before. The real bummer was that toward the end of the class I felt a wave of vertigo come on. I’m getting over a cold and I feel good but my ears have felt stuffed. I’m hoping it is a short bout as I feel the need to keep the exercise momentum going.
@mathmom- that is a motivator for me. I’ve been know to do squats over the toilet. I figure an extra 10 squats here and there can’t hurt.
I started this (sort of) new thing called Orange Theory. Oh. My. Gosh.
So glad to see this thread bumped up! My goal this year is to consume less sugar/refined carbs and get to the gym at least 4 times a week.
I’ve been doing Orange Theory for a year and I love it!
This sounds crazy, but my sciatica so bad that I have avoided gym. I’m in physical therapy a lot. My weight is below 100. I should be pleased that it is below target weight, but when I weighed the extra 5 pounds, I called them “my happy pounds”.
I am happy to donate whatever amount you would like!
Thanks, Jym. But u r so nice I would n very pass the sciatica to u.
Looks like this thread got a haircut!
New diet plan: watch the news.
Orange Theory this morning . . . 15 splat points. Phew.
We have an Orange theory opening soon. I don’t think I’ll try it at this timeout I know my D is interested. @SouthFloridaMom9 and @Ironmom1 I give you huge props for trying something outside your normal routine.
I still have a lot of classes to explore at the Y. I had another bout of dizziness last month. It has made exercising difficult since I can’t do anything on the floor. I went to the Dr and they feel it is sinus related. I’m using a saline rinse twice a day and that is helping. I’m two weeks back at the gym and I’m able to do most things. Floor work is still risky and I’m cautious to not do anything to send the room spinning. My body sculpting instructor got on all of us to increase the weight of our hand weights. I tried it last week and I found it wasn’t as hard as I expected.
My blood work all came back in good ranges. Cholesterol is low as is my A1C. I was concerned since my Dad was a type 1 diabetic and my Mom a type 2 diabetic. My weight is in normal range but I could lose a few lbs I’ve gained back in the last year.
I feel like exercise wise I’m trying new things and building some muscle and increasing my endurance. Diet wise I need to focus on making smarter choices. I’m not sure why but I have been craving both salt and sugar.
How is everyone else surviving the winter?
