Weight Loss for Dummies

I am hoping my scale is on the fritz as I was UP 9 lbs. from 4 days ago!! I only had 10 pounds to lose and I gained those over 10 years; I can not imagine I put on 9 pounds in a weekend. I do feel bloated and know I didn’t eat anything that was healthy this weekend, but will correct that this week. My husband decided not to weigh himself after I did!

We were at a free Resort weekend with buffet lunches, seated planned dinner and open bars. The lunch buffet on Saturday was a Southern menu- shrimp and grits, fried green tomatoes, bbq pork on biscuits, fried chicken, cream of Vidalia Onion soup; dessert was red velvet cupcakes, mini pecan pies and peach cobbler!! I did not watch what I ate other than to watch it go onto my mouth ;)

Here’s hoping that tomorrow’s weigh in goes better!

snowball, I tend to retain a lot of water at certain times of the month, 3-5 lb easily. 9 lb? I do not think it is possible to gain that much fat in a weekend! Something is definitely wrong with your scale. ;)

My scale says I lost 40 pounds overnight and nothing I can do will persuade it otherwise. I’m so cross because I just threw out the box and the receipt since it seemed to be working perfectly.

What I noticed is the the fat that makes my face appears more youthful is now replaced by skin and bone. So the wrinkles show up more. Not sure this is the effect that I really want.

Maybe a little face tuck will be called for…

No I’m against surgery of anykind. I save that for real medical problem.

Are there laser treatments for wrinkles?

If only they could inject the fat from my hips to fill out the wrinkles in my face…that’s what I would call a 2-fer.

Ha!

BTW, delicious lunch. Poached salmon from Whole Foods, warmed up in a small bed of whole wheat pasta, cooked frozen peas, chopped fresh garlic, fresh ground pepper, sea salt, a little white wine, olive oil parsley. Felt downright restaurant-ish. Not cheap, I mean, it’s Whole Foods, but still.

You know what else is good? Using celery to eat your guacamole. De-fricking-licious.

Alum - that does sound yummy!

Oh, how I wish we had a Whole Foods near us. I know it is a little pricey, but I would save money by NOT eating out.

I have a friend who lost a ton of weight and her face looks very haggard. I don’t know what can be done about that. I guess you have to pick your poison. i do like that my neck and arms are looking a little thinner.

The waist though!..what the heck. I have only lost 1/2" since i started this thing.

Love the celery with the guacamole idea, Alum!

EPTR, if you like cucumbers, they work well, too. Pretty much anything is delicious with guacamole!

I’m a little afraid of what will happen when summer (aka, fresh fruit/veggie season) is over. My fridge is full of fresh picked blueberries, raspberries, some nice ripe nectarines, watermelon, and cherries. I’ve been satisfying any craving for something sweet with fresh fruit - come fall the fruit is just…blah…and expensive too.

I know, I know, fruit is NOT always low carb…but I just cant tell myself that fruit is bad.

I love fall vegetables - not as sweet as fruit but I can go without sweet stuff for a long time. You can always go frozen for fruits. The fall is apple and pear season in our area.

Justamom,
Why not freeze some berries for the winter? I know it isn’t quite the same but better than not eating fruit at all. When I freeze blueberries, I wash them and allow them to dry thoroughly. Then I spread them on a cookie sheet (single layer) and pop them in the freezer for a few hours. Once they are frozen I put them into ziplock bags. Because they are frozen before being bagged, they hold their shape and don’t get mushy. Get as much air out of the bag as you can before storing them to prevent ice crystals.

I enjoy the summer fruit too, but when apples start coming in fresh and strong in the fall I can eat them daily and happily. :)

Love fruit waay too much.
I lost one pound over the last week. Might have had the monthly bloat last week though.

I did buy the bikini swimsuit this year. It’s the kind with the skirted bottom though.
With my pear shape the upper thighs don’t go on display. Mostly it’s just DH and I out in the boat anyway so not like I’m scaring the world

I’m headed out to meet friends for lunch at Panera Bread today.
I looked at their website to plan what I would order in advance. They have a really good “nutrition calendar” that has great info about everything they serve. Used to love the tomato mozarella panini…no more panini for PackMom:)

Love Panera! Maybe order one of their salads and alter it to your needs - like no croutons, dressing on the side - that kind of stuff.

I’m still feeling the bloat from the weekend splurges. Had some brown rice last night which was my main carb item of the day. Hoping to feel better tomorrow when I touch my tummy area!

Thanks to whoever recommended pureed cauliflower in place of mashed potatoes; it has become a staple for me. I have probably eater more cauliflower in the past two weeks than in the entire rest of my life! When I steam the cauliflower in the MW, I leave the lid ajar. It seems to dissipate that nasty sulfuric smell. I haven’t quite gotten behind the riced/shredded cauliflower in place of rice, maybe because I am more of a rice eater.

BTW, frozen berries, esp. strawberries forked into smaller pieces, mixed with plain Greek yogurt and sweetened a tiny bit is very much like frozen yogurt and is super filling. It also works with regular plain yogurt. The frozen fruit freezes up the yogurt.
