Weight Loss for Dummies

I still have to try the pureed cauliflower.

I am so glad that we don’t have Panera around here. I’ve eaten there a couple of times in the past while travelling. I wouldn’t want to have to resist their bread all the time.

Packmom,
Id love it if you would share the Panera items that are the lowest in cal/carbs. I go there a lot and always get a salad but…I don’t know!

Panera eating hint for those that love their bagels…ask for your bagel to be “bread sliced” - they will put it through the bread slicer and so one bagel results in several “slices” - when I have one this way, I eat it slower and tend to not eat a whole one at one time cause it seems like more.

Grate some fresh nutmeg on the cauliflower it really helps with the sulfur.

Something one of my old college roommates does which is suprisingly good is to stick seedless grapes in the freezer and eat them before they thaw. It’s like sorbet.

EPTR,Today at Panera I got the Strawberry Poppyseed and Chicken salad. It was 340 calories including the dressing (40 cals). It comes w/ mandarin oranges and pineapple but I didn’t eat those so saved 55 calories, leaving me with 285 cals. for lunch. It also comes with pecans, which I happen to love. The pecans accounted for a whopping 100 cals. I decided to skip the higher carb fruits (I did eat the strawberries and blueberries) and eat the nuts for the good fat/protein/low carb. value.
The half-size of same salad is 150 calories.

I think the Panera Classic salad might have less calories but doesn’t have any protein element.

I walked four miles this a.m. so hope that equalized whatever damage I did at Panera.

The Greek Salad has feta cheese which should pack some protein.

Come fall, for sweetness, you can get a lot from roasting vegetables…

Roasted squash is quite nice - it’s just a lot of work cutting the stuff open. Makes for a good farmers walk.

Roasted cauliflower too, with whole cloves of garlic, salt, pepper, tumeric…roasted brussel sprouts with ham and lemon.

The Panera Greek salad is fine if you leave the dressing off; the dressing alone is 220 calories and 24 grams of fat; no wonder is taste so good ;)

Ha ha ha!

My friend challenged me to do thirty minutes of cardio for thirty days straight. We’ve been checking in with each other. I’m on my third day. Day one was intense kayaking, day two was eliptical and today was a two mile walk with the dog.

Beware of the underreported calories when eating out:

[Calorie counts higher than advertised in US restaurants - Yahoo! News](http://news.yahoo.com/calorie-counts-swing-wildly-us-restaurants-200713747.html)

Count me in as another who loves the summer fruit. A bowl of strawberries hits the spot. I think I am getting back on track. Two days of good eating. Went out and bought new shoes and just returned from a walk. Still trying to get my hip issues to settle down.

I have had a little setback with exercising. I was really stupid and started a speedwork plan that by-passed common sense. I increased mileage, intensity, frequency, AND wore my racing flats. As a result, I have a stress fracture. I compounded my stupidity by walking all over the mall two days looking for items related to SD’s wedding and then danced at the wedding.

As my father used to sat, for a smart girl you can be pretty stupid.

Well, the Panera website said the fatfree Poppyseed dressing was 40 cals. Guess they could be for a half teaspoon. On the website it says the salad has 340 including dressing. On the menu in the restaurant it said the salad had 300…a little trickery?

Wnp, ouch!!! I hope it heals quickly. I’ve done a lot of stupid stuff like that, too; for example, had to take Celebrex for my carpal tunnel syndrome which was caused by overzealous weeding.

Wnp- oh no! Where is the stress fracture? Can you do anything else? I got one in 2005 when I overdid it with Vibram running but I could still do spin class. Sorry you have to deal with this. Maybe deep water pool walking?

My ankle. At first I thought it was some kind of mild tendonitis, but I also knew what I had been doing prior to the injury and the symptoms were more consistent with a stress fracture. I have access to the pool/equipment at the college where I do some work. I am so bummed. I really wanted to go to kingsport this year - I figured we could go to Kingsport and then head down to Mississippi and visit our D.

Where was your fracture and HOW LONG until you resumed running???

I’m so sorry, worknprogress! I hope it heals quickly. Can you get good workouts in the pool?

I’ve just been walking with my friend in crisis. About an hour, about 4 miles. She is in better shape than I am, and I felt pushed by the pace the entire time (this is good). It was hot and humid as h*ll. I came home and took a long shower, and feel great now, except that I’m hungry. I have 100 calories left, not counting whatever I burned/sweated off in the walk. Low on food. Maybe an apple and Greek yogurt?

Mine was above my ankle on the outside of my leg. I wore a boot but could be weight bearing. 6 weeks of no running.
