Hi,
I am from Turkey, I didn’t know where to post this. So, in Turkey system is different than the US (I GUESS!).
While we calculate unweighted GPA we just sum all the grades from each classes, than we divide it by the count of subjects.
Let’s say I am only taking maths and physics. My averages from those classes are 70 and 80. Calculation of the unweighted GPA is (70+80)/2
While we calculate weighted GPA we multiply our averages from each subject by their weekly class count, then we divide them by our total class hours.
For example, I am only taking physics and mathematics. Physics is 2 hours a week and I received a 60, mathematics is 4 hours a week and i received a 50. So it makes (602+504)/(2+4).
Depending on this calculation, usually Turkish students’ unweighted GPAs are higher than their weighted ones because we have more credits on harder classes.
I doubt if the systems are the same because in the US, usually weighted is higher than unweighted.
Please explain me the system, are they different or the same?
