So I know this is kind of a bizarre question, but is it weird not to have a traditional dining hall on campus? Based on my experiences visiting schools and from summer programs, the dining hall was kind of the central hub for meeting other kids aside from parties (and class of course). How does the lack of dining halls affect the campus atmosphere, especially considering the lack of a traditionally defined campus with gates and a yard?

Also, what is the party scene like a GW? I read somewhere that because it was so urban, the DC police made partying a strictly club kind of thing? Anyone have any info on that?

Good questions, man. I personally wish GW had a dining hall like other universities. And you’re right, dining halls, besides parties are the best place to meet people. GW is a very individualized school, so I feel that kids believe a dining room wouldn’t fit their needs. Plus, I feel that one of the reason why GW’s social scene lacks a bit.

Dude, browse though the forums. Personally, I’m not a fan of the GW social scene. Kids tend to be a bit awkard at times and I’ve never had a problem with partying and/or meeting new people. Again, there are people who feel differently, but to me, GW isn’t a huge party school. PM me, I would love talk you about it some more.

PS–How do yourself define parties? (Drinking and just drinking) or (Drinking, dancing and meeting new people?)

Exactly, how you do you define parties? GW is a typical college in the way that people will be drinking in their rooms or off-campus apartments. Some people call it a night there, some others will go out the multipicity of clubs and bars. It’s all about what you’re comfortable and interested in doing.

DC is strict on ID’s. That being said, make sure you have a good fake and get to know where that fake is acceptable. There’s the saying: where there’s a will, there’s a way.

I, personally, don’t care for the dining halls. I enjoy the flexibility that is built into the GWorld card. We had dining halls most of the freshmen buildings, but they were closed down because nobody went there. Best way to meet people? Join a club or organization. I find that’s the best way to meet people.

Hellpbaby’s defintion of a party–“Drinking, Dancing, and Meeting New People.”

Lots of noise and sticky floors. Gee, I want to go to college again! Youth really is wasted on the young!
