Welcome Activities 2011

Well, I guess it is late for this kind of thread, but which activities are worth going to?
I’m an FPF student that will be commuting from home for the first semester, so I want to go to the events that are really worth it.

…and on another note, my dad wants to walk me to the FPF welcome reception from the bart station (my mom doesn’t like the idea of me going on bart/walking there by myself on the first day)…will that be awkward?

is there any reason they don’t feel comfortable with you going by yourself? It’s not that awkward, I know how it feels to watch your little ones fly off and sometimes it’s hard to let go. Caltopia might be worth going to if you don’t mind shuffling around to get free stuff, haha.

no one is going to care if your dad walks with you. And I can see where your mom is coming from. Berkeley has a reputation for being a bad area.

caltopia if you want free stuff like pens and crappy coupons. although occasionally there are good things like…better coupons (lol) or free screening tickets to some movie.

as for daddy walking with you, eh. i’d say half the freshmen are walking around with the rents so it’s not awkward at all. and I’d say that half the population there wouldn’t have the balls to call it out anyways.

Welcome Week is more about the vibe and atmosphere around campus during that week. Everyone is just really relaxed, outgoing, and all for meeting new people. I don’t think any one particular event is really that much fun by itself though.

Thanks for all your help! I probably won’t go to too many of the events then :)…and I won’t feel awkward going around with my dad, I didn’t realize other parents hang around too. They made it seem like everyone just vanishes after move in day. (my mom is worried about the bad reputation Berkeley seems to have with safety - along with the fact that it’s my first time doing, well, anything by myself)
