Relax, play, sleep, and enjoy as much quality time with your family as you can. These will be in short supply come September.
@ChoatieMom thanks for the tip, I’ll definitely let him know! ?
In other news, he finally got the email today to start filing for visa stuff etc. Was starting to get paranoid that the acceptance was a mistake?
Anyone know when housing forms and the like come out?
Hey, I am going to choate for 9th grade, and I was wondering about something. When I went to the revisit day, I visited the freshman girls dorms and I realized that squire Stanley was quite small. I had to duck almost everywhere I went inside the dorm and I was wondering whether I could request on the roommate questionnaire not to be put in that dorm. I am tall, so it may become a burden later.
Hi, I am an incoming freshman girl. Of the three dorms available to me (Nichols, Pitman, Squire), which is the newest? Also do they all have carpeted floors?
@choateready @gracelilly Have either of you gotten the new student portal yet?
Hello, current sophomore at Choate here taking a study break to answer some of these questions! Hope that I am not too late or that you’ve found the answer already.
@CavsFan2003 I am not sure when housing forms will come out, but when I was an incoming freshman, the forms came out in early April and were due early May—not sure what is happening this year. (hopefully you’ve gotten them!)
@choateready The forms should also include a question on your preference for dorm size. Otherwise, just write it in the comments/notes!
@gracelilly I believe that all of the freshmen girl dorms have carpeted floors in the rooms. Out of those dorms, I would say that Nichols perhaps is the newest (and the largest). Personally, I think that Pittman is the “grimiest” of those dorms, but Squire is actually quite cozy and sort of resembles a house.
Hey, I haven’t gotten access to the student portal yet, but I do have the course catalogue and diploma requirements, what about you?
@choateready Yeah, I have those. I wonder when we’ll get our portals though, since it seems most other schools have already gotten them.
Having visited L’ville, Andover, Deerfield, Exeter and Saint Paul’s…there is no doubt in my mind that Choate has the nicest campus and Wallingford is the coolest town vs the others
How does the new addition to the Paul Mellon Arts Center look? And? Will it be finished before the Fall Semester?
What score on a placement test generally correlates to what class? If that makes sense loll
@Teahupo --The new addition to the Mellon Center will be amazing. To my knowledge, the goal is to open for Fall.
Is it allowed to switch activities after indicating interest on the course/athletic selection form? I put down that I want to do intramural squash but I think I want to do JV/thirds soccer instead.
@Teahupo No doubt some people like the Choate campus, others think the buildings look pretty random and mismatched. I do like the Lanphier Center though. Interplay between modern and traditional I suppose…
But seriously, you think Wallingford is the coolest town of Exeter, Andover, Lawrenceville, Concord? Except for a very small, sort of quaint, block of shops, Wallingford’s commercial areas are pretty broke-down and I’ve tried but just can’t come to appreciate it.
In terms of towns, Exeter, New Hampshire all the way…
I like Wallingford because it comes across as a genuine diversified working-class town with quaint parts as you mentioned but also gritty, industrial areas. The diversity is reflected in the types of restaurants, shops and architecture found within walking distance of Choate. It’s basically a mini New Haven which itself is a cool town in my opinion.
For sure Andover, a rich affluent upper class suburb, is nicer. Exeter is basically a living colonial era museum as is Deerfield. Both towns are tidy and well-kept. As for St Paul’s, it seems a little isolated from the town. Lawrenceville isn’t really a town but more of an attractive strip mall located across a busy highway from the school.
Current Choatie girls. can you tell me the make up of rooms in McCook House? My daughter has been assigned there with 4 other new 4th Form girls. Wondering if they might be in doubles, triples or singles. Thanks.
@Bulldog86 McCook is all singles, from what I know.
Thanks - I think my daughter will be pleased with a single even though she said on her housing form that she was open to any arrangement… I recall that you might be on campus now?
@Bulldog86 I went back home last week! I’ll be back on campus in a month though!
@CavsFan2003 --for math placement tests for HO placement, it is usually a score of 90% or above.
