Welcome New Choaties!

Sorry, forgot the getting settled in and Walmart part of your question. We did end up running to Walmart for a few items, but Bed, Bath, and Beyond by our home had MUCH more and I was really glad that we procured most of needed items ahead of time. You can actually mail your boxes from BB&B ahead of time directly to the school, which was really convenient!

As for move-in time, it took about about two hours for us. Choate gives you a day, which includes parent programs and a (much needed) cocktail reception at the end of the day for move-in. It was the perfect amount of time–so no worries there!

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

Yep, the seniors in the yellow shirts will help your kiddo move in. You really don’t have to do anything. Also, you will be gently “forced” off campus just before the kids go to dinner/matriculation. Around 4PM, you will give your kiddo a final hug and mosey over to the Sally Hart Lodge for a parent reception that is intended as a nice way to move the 'rent’s toward their cars and off campus.

Have fun and good luck. Go Choate!

Thank you @itcannotbetrue and @ChoatieMom
So very excited!!! ;

There is registration day and a day before school starts. Is the info abou move in day that day between? Thanks.

If I remember correctly, the kids actually register the day: 1) move-in day/parents there; 2) Parents leave, registration/special fun day for new third formers; 3) First day of school.

*Actually register the day after move-in day @neuroticmama

So registration is Monday. So move in day would be Sunday? And we should book flights to go home that Monday night? And not plan to stay Tuesday, the day before classes begin?

Move in would be on the same day as registration. @neuroticmama

Hello Everyone!!! I have been very dormant this admissions cycle, but no need to fret. This is as an active forum that I constantly check on, so if you have any questions, ask away!!

Probably a no, but can you study abroad in the summer? More specifically, the summer after freshman year?

Also, is Choate lenient on dorm rules, like refrigerators and the like?

Wow Choate thanks for $$$$$s in financial aid

@Unkempt-Couth Actually, you can. There are even for options for studying abroad in the summer. Only prefects (certain seniors) can have refrigerators, but there are communal refrigerators and microwaves in every dorm.

Nice to see you back, @prepschoolhopes !

Current Choate sophomore (4th former) here also ready to answer any questions!

Kinda a direct question, but do you think that the tuition worth it?

@applejuice007 I don’t know if you would attend as a day student or boarder, but as a day student I think it is. While the price does seem high, relative to other boarding schools, I think it’s reasonable. Between the special programs offered, the option to study abroad, the level of education, and the connections offered by the college counseling office, I would say Choate is a good investment for your future.

IM SO HAPPY I SCREAMED IN THE MIDDLE OF STUDY HALL WHEN I GOT IN

I love how teacher’s bring their dogs thing so much… honestly that makes me so happy

How would you describe your overall experience there? What’s the worst part about Choate and what’s the best?
