Hi I got accepted into the CS direct admit program a few months ago and I read on the direct admit site that we are supposed to take Q175 “Welcome to College,” an 8 week course for 1 credit. According to the site, if we don’t take the course we have to attend three evening sessions for no credit. So my question is whether or not the course is worth it? Do you get any useful info? Are the few assignments the site mentioned horribly tedious? I’ll probably take the course if it has any slight use and is not too boring. Any input from people who have opted either way is appreciated.

I have not attended this class, but I was able to access the class description on it–of which there are two (one for each session offered in a prior year). Here they are:

One last thing–the course is not offered as part of the Computer Science curriculum, but rather as part of the College of Arts and Sciences curriculum. Thus on the schedule of classes it will be listed as:

COLL Q175

not

CSCI Q175 (which doesn’t exist)

Good luck–and if you have any specific questions on the course, I suggest you reach the professor in case she leaves for the summer (meaning you should write or call her prior to May 6th or so).

The professor to try to reach is Kimberly Hinton.

To contact her, go to this site and put in her name (note be sure to put in her full name, since there are two K. Hintons)
