Went pretty bad on my first SAT =(

So I did my first SAT on January 22nd

I went pretty bad very 980 points which kind of sucks hard … I am on freshman year… I think the main problem was that I was not familiarized with it and I live in a different country.

I already bought some books and will atend some classes for SAT…

The thing is how can I hide this score from colleges??

I dont want that to get my record dirty.

How can I erase or hide that?
If any college sees that I will never get in…

You can’t hide it, colleges get everything. But don’t sweat it, international FRESHMAN with a 980 is pretty impressive. You’re already better than half of the US high school senior population.

From what I know, the end score is what matters.

Why did you take the SAT? You are only a freshman, no rush~~~

What if…
I create a new collegeboard account?
Would that help?
I really dont want to keep that in my records.

No you can’t create a new account on Collegeboard without changing your name, address, etc. and you cannot take that 980 off the record. The colleges will see your old score, but like Klogon said, it is your end score that really matters, so don’t get all worked up about it. With or without prepping, your score naturally will improve by several hundred points, since you’re just a freshman. And believe it or not, there are 1000s of colleges in the US that will accept applicants with a 980 or even lower, so it’s not like you’re screwed for life.

But I’m wondering, if you’re a freshman who was totally unfamiliar with the SAT, why did you even take it? Most students take it Junior or Senior year, after having prepared for it thoroughly. If you want practice, you should’ve taken the PSAT or done practice tests in the 10 Real SATs prep book published by Collegeboard (the makers of the SAT I, II, AP tests, TOEFL, etc). Register for the October '05 PSAT in the fall, I’m sure that if you’re familiar with the format and strategies of the test you’ll do MUCH better! Best of luck…

Colleges see everything from the 9th grade onward… Experimentation should have been done pre 8th grade, but I don’t really think that Colleges will care as long as you do well later in life.

If it helps you feel better, I’ve taken it about 4 times, and plan to take it a few more times for the new SAT. I’ve done so badly in the past, but each time was an attempt to try and get me to study for it (failed… heh), and not a serious attempt at the test. But now that I’ve taken it so many times, I don’t feel the pressure when going to go take it. Seems… almost routine. So don’t worry about it. If you end up getting a 2200 on the New SAT, the fact that you got a low score freshman year will hardly matter. Heck, no matter WHEN you got that score will matter if you get a good end score.

Here is what our Ds GC told us (she is a sophmore) they recommend taking test no more than three times, after that you plateau out…for OP, its best to wait a year at least before you take it again…it will be better to have a huge jump all at once, than a little bit each time…growth is good, but with a huge jump (if possible) it will look like the 9th grade test was a fluke, not representing the real you…

Like, okay so and so got a 960 in 9th grade, but wow, a 1450 as a junior!!!

yea, go for a big jump. Don’t take it if you aren’t ready - a year, as citygirlsmom said, or even longer. Worst thing you can do is be like this kid in my school who took the test three consecutive test dates in a row (o.O!??!?! why?!?!!?) and improving only 10 points.

One thing that I see so often that I dislike is when Guidance Counselors tell kids to go take the test for practice. They don’t realize that they’re knocking down one of the 3 times that the student should take it… Why do you need to do that when you can go out and buy a book, take a practice test in your own home!!! Same thing to me…

I can only take 3 SAT’s that is true???

I think I am going to create a new collegeboard login…

I can use my grandparents house details, another email and phone

and I have a very very long name so I can change the last name

I’m not sure, but you sure can try though…

You can take the SAT’s more than 3 times however, that would look bad wouldn’t it?

GoCollege, Pay attention. You’ve gotten some good advice here. Colleges will see that this was a 9th grade score and it really won’t matter.

Think very hard about lying and cheating. If you get caught you will be sorrier than you can imagine. Even if you don’t get caught is this the person you want to be?

You can take the test how ever many times you want, but, it doesn’t look great…don’t worry about first test, when and if there is a big jump that will look good

There are more you can take. Taking it as a freshman I think is good, that way colleges know how much you have improved.

GoCollege,
by the time you are applying to colleges everyone will be switched over to the new SAT anyway, so DON’T worry about your your 9th grade score. Your score will rise as you encounter more math and become more expert at the english language.

well. I dont want to be mean. But you are very dumb for making a stupid decision by changing ur login name… seriously. And i think that changing your name because of a score in which YOU think is a bad score when you are a FRESHMAN is a lame decision. Don’t do it or else i will seriously think you are ■■■■■■■■.

No… You can take more than 3 times… What I’m saying is that when a college sees a kid that takes the test 4 or 5 or 6 times, they begin to ask questions.

There is something I forgot to mention this is the 2nd time I took the test and I cancelled the first time I did…

I am really worried that score can ruin my life seriously… It was pretty bad and If I study a lot and get a good grade colleges will think that I am stupid and that I studied like mad and got a good grade…

Why would it be cheating create another collegeboard login?

I read their Terms and there is nothing about that.

I just fell really bad right now and if I create another account perhaps it could be a new fresh start…
