Went to a cheap public university for undergrad, ok to take loans for MS at private?

I graduated from a public university with only 7K in debt. Looking back at how many people are graduating with so much debt, this was amazing.
Would it be a sensible choice to pursue a MS degree from a private university, looking at about 40K in loans? To be honest, my undergraduate GPA is not very strong and I am willing to enroll in a typical “cash cow” master’s program to get the degree

I feel that this MS will help open doors and it will be in a major that I always wanted to get a degree in. I didn’t get the chance to get a B.S. in this field as an undergrad.

What state are you in? Or alternatively, what schools are you looking at?

No.

You should find a university willing to fund you. The idea that only Ph.D students get funded is a pernicious myth.

You have a good thing going in having few loans. You will nearly sextuple your debt load by borrowing $40k. That’s just not a good plan.
