Well, all are out of college although my youngest is talking about the GRE. Grandson is only 5. Too bad, I’m staying. I don’t know of any other forum that I enjoy as much. We are a great group. I just tell my family I read about it on my forum. I think they have forgotten it is a college forum.
Oldest finished grad school last year. Youngest is talking about taking the GRE and going to grad school. I don’t care if nobody’s in college/grad school, I’ll still be here. There’s so much more here than just college discussion.
My kid chose a service academy. It’s really not college, and I’ve kinda moved over to the (non-CC) service academy parents forum under a new name, but I’ve made some real friends on the BS forum here that I can’t leave, so I’ll stick around just to see what trouble they’re stirring up. And to find out how much I need to retire and if I should flip a house.
My future first grand kid is still an egg. I have earned the right to be here forever.
I still love the boarding school forums and while I do not post much anymore I visit to keep up with what’s going on.
@ChoatieMom where you around when ExieMIT posted? She used to have those legendary knockdown drag outs with that one male poster whose name escapes me. I used to get pm’s from other BS posters “appalled” at the way they attacked each other. They have both left CC but they added some spice to an otherwise staid forum.
I don’t follow the boarding school forum so much now. It’s depressing enough in the college forum to read posts from desperate HS students who want to be chanced for Harvard. But it’s even more depressing to read posts from 12 & 13 year old middle school students who want to be chanced for Exeter.
I got so sick of that obsession w HADES that I think my greatest contribution to that forum was my easy to remember acronym for the highest-SSAT score boarding schools:
St Pauls
Middlesex
Exeter
Groton
Milton
Andover
My youngest graduated from college…3 years ago. I am…I hope…still in the school of life? I am on the Phd track…getting my kids happily married? Happily living life? (I prefer the latter).
Do I qualify?
Ironically, I didn’t join until earlier this year AFTER both of my kids college search was done. But since one just started, I’ll be “legit” for another 4 years and I imagine I will probably be here for quite a while. (It’s so addicting!)
GMT: I think my greatest contribution to the BS forum was the “Ban the term HADES” thread. You just can’t let that acro of yours go, can you?
HarvestMoon: Exie still shares her wisdom but under a new name on her daughter’s college forum. Her nemesis, Alden6011, appears to be long gone, under that name anyway.
Our son’s journey to a service academy was so totally outside the BS CC process, I’m kinda wondering what we paid for. (Not really, his independence and athletic and academic prep were outstanding.) But his choice was so not BS mainstream that I felt and still feel somewhat marginalized on that forum. And the service academy forums are an entirely different animal than CC. (Our kids are learning to blow things up and kill with precision, topics not included in the catalogs of any other college FormerChoatieKid was accepted to and not frequently discussed by his CC.)
But the café here is a lot of fun, so carry on!
Yes, and when we toured Columbia several years later the admissions guy on the show from Columbia was the one who did our info session. He was still rather pompous. ![]()
I have to say that I am sorry that the “HS/College Year XX” forums ever started, because I realize that a lot of the conversation that used to be more general now takes place there. We need to entice more people into the Cafe. ![]()
Agreed. The “year” groups didn’t start til after both of mine were in school (and for graduation classes past theirs)
We are hoping to “encourage” S to go to get a master’s degree–MBA, MEE or something, as he maxed out on his salary and promotions until he does get a grad degree or other. Does that make us legit? Our younger child got her bachelor’s degree in 2013 and may go back to school if she isn’t able to get a job she loves in the near future. She hopes to shadow or intern or volunteer so she chooses a path that works well for herself.
Congrats to the CC moms who got recognition-- nice work! There are so many smart and interesting people on this site with great insight and advice to offer, which is why I keep coming back. I too missed out on the whole class of xxxx FB thing (or whatever it is) – but that’s okay. I love hanging out in the cafe. I love cafes.
Hi – I just was googling and came across this thread. I’m here less frequently these days, but still looking forward to a neurotic parent movie and also doing talks around the country. My younger son is graduating college in May, so I’ve got to find something new to be neurotic about.
Kudos, neuroticparent!! Let me tell you, it never ends… Will the big kiddo be able to get enough data for her PhD thesis by next May? Will the evil IRB approve of the little kiddo’s research plan? Will my knees hold up and not bend when I make my class presentation next month?
Congrats @neuroticparent
I agree it never ends…but at least we still can find humor in the latter stages of parenting.
We can?
I joined CC when oldest was a junior in 2000. Son is graduating med school in May.
Had a different set up back then and then in 2004 the boards changed again and we lost ALL our post counts. After that I just gave up. Now we can like posts. So cute.
And I am still here.
And yes I filled out the FAFSA every. stinking. year.

KAT! So good to “see” you here!
