Wesleyan RD 2024

Have a feeling that this year the Wes acceptance rate is muuuch lower than previous years as the school has become more popular and on the radar of more and more kids. Yes a crap shoot indeed my dd got into Wes and Midd but not Williams. Also each school is looking for a specific type of student. Williams seems to like more standard academic sporty kids. Whereas the motto at Wes is “keep Wes wierd.” Wes cares a lot about the ECs and recommends an interview. Williams goes more off of test scores and grades. Not that Wes doesn’t care about grades too but the fact that they are test optional says a lot. They also track who visits, so demonstrated interest I think also counts for something.

@iniem1
Just emailed the admissions office.

“The Hamilton Prize winners will be announced after the May 1st deadline from the pool of applicants who have accepted their offer of admission.”

Not really fair to those who can only afford Wes on the off chance of winning

The funny thing is if you met my daughter, you would think, she’s a total Wesleyan person: theater kid, literary magazine editor, never on an organized team (and never wanted to be), etc. We did visit, but she had an alumni interview with a guy who sounded like a stereotypical finance bro–her worst interview by far. Tons of kids apply from my daughter’s high school, including a bunch who got in early, so we weren’t expecting an acceptance, but did think she might be waitlisted. She’s in the top 5% of her class. It’s all good. We’re grateful for her acceptances.

@gotham_mom my son and your daughter have so many overlapping schools. My kid didn’t get into Swarthmore but did get into Williams and Amherst so ??‍♀️

@alaegorion Hey, thanks for letting me know-- yeah, I think a full scholarship would absolutely be a selling factor in choosing a school lol

D20 Waitlisted. This was the final school she was waiting to hear from. She ended up accepted at 10 schools, waitlisted at 3 and rejected at 2. Now comes the hard part of deciding where to go. Congratulations to all who got accepted!!!

.

I really wish the Hamilton Prize came out earlier. I got into my dream school, but loved Wes- I’m not sure I can justify going to a school on the off chance of getting a scholarship, but on the other hand, I’m not sure how I will go to my dream school, paying so much money when there is a chance I could have been just as happy at Wes for free… It’s going to be a hard month!

^You got into Brown, didn’t you.

My son did not get in and I am honestly relieved. He did an overnight program at Wes and he said almost every student he encountered offered him drugs (not for sale) but to partake in.

What is the point of this post?

Can someone comment what @amyking said is valid? Does this happen for everyone who goes there or my feeling it being an isolated case and like every schools, there will be people who do drugs but WAY many who chooses not to. It’s not specific to Wesleyan.

@chance11 Your feeling is correct regarding @amyking 's comment. There will be people who do drugs (at almost every college) but many/the majority who chose not to.

With legal marijuana dispensaries less than an hour away in Massachusetts, I’m actually surprised that anyone bothers to light up in public when there are so many alternative delivery systems available on the open market. That being said, among life’s small rites of passage, I would humbly include learning to politely say, “No, thank you.” when someone offers you contraband at a private party.

@circuitrider - you are right, my son politely said “no thank you” and in fact he said at one point, the room he was staying overnight in - the two boys left the room temporarily (my son remained in the room) to go and do their drugs elsewhere.

My son and I were just surprised because we didn’t know marijuana was legal a short distance away (we are not from the northeast). He also visited other colleges and did not have that experience.

Does anyone know if and when Wesleyan will be contacting waitlisted applicants?
