waitlisted. Totally unexpected. I had a 1900 SAT (which I didn’t submit) and a huge financial need. Plus, I’m an international student. I was sure it was gonna be a straight away rejection. But, well, I’m happy I’ve at least not been rejected.
Rejected. It was not meant to be. Congrats to those who got accepted!
Is there a facebook group for those accepted?
Wait listed. I’m lucking out with the LACs but hey - I shouldn’t cry over spilled milk. Congrats to those accepted!
Waitlisted…more than I expected at least
Accepted! I really liked Wesleyan when I visited campus, but could anyone explain to me which schools are on the same “caliber” as Wesleyan? Didnt apply to a lot of LACs but really liked Wesleyan, and I understand that it’s hard to define because it is subjective but. Any LAC cross-admits here? Thanks!
Similar tier LAC’s would be include Middlebury, Haverford, Davidson, Vassar, etc. Next tier would be Williams, Amherst, Swarthmore, Bowdoin (kind of on the bubble) – but it’s pretty close statistically (for example Middlebury accepts smaller percentage than Williams) so very minor difference overall and people could argue compellingly why this kind of ranking is meaningless and the various strengths of any of these schools.
Chances of getting in if you are wait listed?
Waitlist odds (at all these schools) are usually very low – worse than the odds of being accepted in the first place. It varies by year from 0-10% but usually more like 5%. They all put far too many people on the waitlist. If this school is your hearts desire some people recommend “campaigning” – send a letter, call, have your counselor call, etc. None of this should challenge your acceptance of course but emphasize your commitment to the school as your first choice if you get called from the waitlist. There are anecdotal success stories of this paying off but no idea if it really helps or not. Probably couldn’t hurt though.
Pleased that my daughter was accepted and very pleased about the financial award, the most generous she’s received. Is that the general reputation for Wesleyan aid offers?
I had one at Middlebury and have one at Pomona. I have a third one with her eye on Wesleyan, Vassar and Bryn Mawr (a school I really like). You ask a tough question. I would say of those I know well or am getting to know well, Midd, Pomona and Vassar are comparable. Bryn Mawr is just too different to compare and is in many ways about something else than the others.
MiddDad, could you please clarify why you think Bryn Mawr is too different to compare (other than the fact that it is all women)?
Rejected… Pretty surprised, but not dissapointed as I got into my #1 which was Middlebury.
Thought Wes was easier to get in to, kind of anticipated at least a waitlist but I guess it wasn’t meant to be. Also, didn’t know much about the school and never visited even though I live in CT
@Mintwood, nothing too terribly scientific … or even at all scientific. Of course they’re all great LACs committed to those principles of education. But Bryn Mawr just has a different mission, which you reference, which of course gives it a different feel. Bryn Mawr, in my brief exposure, has a decidedly less elitist view of itself. It doesn’t seem to want to compete and out-do its peers in the 7 sisters. They celebrate Wellesley at the admission info session, while Williams, Wesleyan and Amherst all take shots at each other, and Vassar makes sure you know that they are as good as the best NESCAC schools even if they’re not in the NESCAC, endowment arms races, etc. etc. etc. Bryn Mawr, more than any school I’ve been around, seems to be doing their own thing. Their sports programs are entirely for the women’s benefit, not the ego of the alumni. They don’t care that Johns Hopkins, Haverford and Swarthmore beat them up on the field all the time because they are able to recruit more aggressively and successfully.
Maybe it’s all in my head. They just seem very committed to their original charter of educating and empowering women through a transformative experience. I imagine Wellesley and MoHo and Smith do the same. We’re just not looking at those schools.
I meant it entirely in a positive way. I really do like Bryn Mawr quite a lot.
Thanks, interesting. Any other schools outside the 7 sisters that you would compare it to, and that have a similar vibe? (I’m thinking this should go in the BMC thread so we don’t hijack this one)
No, not that I have experienced. Mind you, it’s the only all-women school we’ve looked at. She was on the Wellesley campus for 5 minutes and knew it wasn’t for her. And while she’s entertaining Vassar, she doesn’t like the idea of all women in an isolated rural setting, so MoHo and Smith were out before we started. No consideration of Pitzer or any of the other all women schools.
Congrats to everyone who got in!
@Comrod33 Search up “WesAdmit 2020” on Facebook!
@idk_college Mmm…that is odd. Middlebury is generally harder to get into if we compare it to Wes – I think the reason for this year’s higher rejection rate was partly due to a higher number in applications (12,000+). Or maybe Wes thought you were overqualified and would be accepted to a better university/college
