Wesleyan vs. Vassar

How do the two schools rank up in terms of academics? I’m particularly interested in English, Humanities, and French.

They’re pretty similar in terms of academics. Both are awesome undergrad schools with programs that are comparable in the depts you mentioned. I think wes is better at science.
What you might want to consider is the demographic of the school and the location of the school.
Both schools offer great programs in what you listed.
Though from what i’ve heard, middlebury (University of chicago if you want a university) is more known for languages.

One cool thing that Wesleyan offers, that is great if your listed interests are English, humanities, and french, is the special College of Letters (COL) program. There’s also a College of Social Sciences (CSS). These are both majors that you declare at the end of your freshman year.

COL is an interdisciplinary program focusing on the humanities (literature, history, and philosophy), with a European and classical focus. It is on the colloquia and seminar heavy side. It also involves studying a foreign language intensively and going abroad the second semester of your SOPHOMORE year to a country where that language is spoken. You can read more information about the program here: http://www.wesleyan.edu/registrar/catalog/colt.htm</a></p>

I think Wesleyan’s academic reputation (you know, average SAT scores and all) is a little bit better than Vassar’s, but they’re rather similar, and as a former Seven Sisters school, Vassar may be a little more up there with the name recognition. Vassar is often considered a little less diverse, a bit less balanced of a male/female ratio, and a little more well-off-liberal as opposed to intense-activist-liberal. Of course, I go to Wesleyan, not Vassar, so my opinion is biased, and I’m just going off of what I heard!

If you have any specific questions about Wes, feel free to ask. Overall, I’ve absolutely loved my experience here.

CSS and COL are pretty cool. I’ve read about them a lot while looking through literature.
I can’t wait to be there this fall :-)
