Is there really a peer rec needed for Wesleyan this year? I’m really, really worried becuase the friends that would write decent recs also are applying to Wes this year.

is it optional?

What? There’s a peer recommendation? Oh that’s nice because I have a peer rec from a friend and it’s really good.

Presumably a friend wouldn’t try to sabotage your chances of getting into a school you really want to go to…right? Besides, it would be silly to do something like that. The admissions committee doesn’t have a quota for people from the same school – just ask Stuyvesant High about that. If you’re both top applicants you’ll both get in, and I doubt the peer recommendation (which they didn’t even do when I was applying, for what it’s worth) will really affect that one way or another.

I didn’t realize there was a peer rec. When I applied two years ago there wasn’t as far as I could tell :)

No peer rec when my D applied last year (for class of 2010). I would double check tha app forms/instructions; my suspicion is that there is no such requirement.

Yeah, I didn’t have to do anything of the sort and I still made it into 2010 with perks :-)
