from my experience consumer boot socks were expressly forbidden by my company but my SL did allow us to wear them on the march back so our feet didnt get too messed up. The socks they issue you should be fine, but if you decide to bring aftermarkets try and get green ones so they appear to be standard issue and dont bother with too many pairs because you likely wont be allowed to wear them.

What about Under Armor? I’ve seen that on some lists but am hesitant to shell out $25 per shirt (ACU tan color) just to be told I can’t wear it.

Check out Wal-Mart for $7 a shirt off-brand!

Sometimes you can get lucky and find a tan shirt, though the regular colors are white, black, blue and red.

Is Pentagon Federal the account that is set up for the $2900 deposit?

FewandProud16,

The $2900 deposit goes into your cadet account through “Treasurer, USMA”. See page 4 in the gold Instructions for “Candidates Offered Admission” book.

The Pentagon Federal Credit Union would be for your personal checking account, if that’s the bank you choose to have your account at. This account would be where your portion of your pay will be directly deposited into. The “Direct Deposit Sign-up Form” (Form 1199A) needs to be filled out by your bank of choice. See page 3 in the above listed book for details. Pentagon Federal Credit Union has a branch on post and another one outside Thayer gate.

Hope this helps.

Any other suggestions?

I went shopping the other day and I got baby wipes, and those tide bleach pens too (did you see the commercial? yes for those kinda situations lol)

I also got lots of “first aid” stuff (just assorted bandages, medical tape, aloe vera, carmex lip balm, icy hot cream, anti-itch, and bug spray) but I already had most of that stuff, so I dunno if it counts.

Concerning the flashlight, though I dunno if I’ll get to use it, I bought one of those headlamp thingies WITH a red light. I do have a minimag light with white, blue, and a red lens though (the red lense is already installed).

BATTERIES TOO! I dunno about West Point Prices, but when 1000 new cadets all gotta buy stuff in like 5 minutes, those $1.00 prices at Target’s clearance aisle look pretty good.

Though it may seem like I have lots of stuff (which I do lol) I think all my gear should fit within my backpack (my rather large backpack- it’s a camelbak BFM). It does all fit within two gallon size hefty bags though (the loose articles). The other stuff that won’t fit are my two bottles of powder, hair gel (i’m thinking of leaving that considering I’ll be bald anyway) lotion, and the baby wipes.

…I think I wrote too much too.

HOPE I HELPED!

I think you’re bringing too much.

Also, I’m not sure when it was mentioned, but sock liners will be useful and you’re allowed to wear them.

lol well at least i found that out now instead of later when I have to lug everything around!

I’m sure I’ll bring too much stuff also, but ohh well. MOT, could you please provide a link or something to some sock liners? I have no idea what they are. LOL. spectrez- I was under the impression we would not be able to have anything to self medicate, so we can’t hide an injury. Have you heard anything about that?

Oh i didn’t hear anything about that…Oh shucks lol- I’m gonna be so mad if I have to dump my entire first-aid quart sized hefty bag into the amnesty box. I’ll bring it anyway though just in case; it’s not to heavy anyway.

Oh but an update- I managed to fit all my stuff (including an accordion file) into a 21-inch carry-on duffel bag. Others may not have the same effect because I only got one pair of boots and one pair of running shoes in there. They take up the most room.

sock liners

http://www.rei.com/search?vcat=REI_SEARCH&query=sock+liners

If anyone is still looking for a good flashlight, I got a really sweet one at REI. Its the Gerber Recon, it has an LED light, can fit in the palm of your hand, and you can switch between white and red light by turning a dial. Its about $30.

We don’t need to bring our birth certificate in addition to our SS card, right? And is a copy of the SS card ok, or do they want the original?

^ that is a sweet one.

SOOO EXCITED!!!

Does anyone know how long Beast I is compared to Beast II?

Same, 3 weeks.

Thanks MOT that makes a little more sense now. Futurewarrior- I was told you don’t even have to have a copy of your ss card, you just have to know your number. Regardless I am at least taking a copy of my ss card and birth certificate. I also just called and verified the reciept of my shot record and the vision form. Those phone numbers are Shots: 845-938-3003 Vision: 845-938-2021

Ok, I might bring a SSN copy, but, um, my birth certificate as of two hours ago is being held by the US Postal Service (passport application) :P

Ok I can’t get a definitive answer regarding the birth certificate. bzzzt says you need it, but the gold booklet only mentions “SS identification”, and nothing about birth certificates is mentioned in that booklet or the white one. I can’t get ahold of my regional admissions officer at West Point and my birth certificate is being held by the postal service…is this even a big deal?

Sigh. Nevermind. I just realized that USMA already has my certificate on file. (Mailed up with one of the cards from the gold booklet)

futurewarrior, I haven’t seen anything from USMA that asks us to bring our birth certificate or SSN card or anything like that… if you look here http://www.usma.edu/publicaffairs/rday2007/Info-4-New-Cadets_Class-of-11_2.pdf
it says all you need is valid photo ID (e.g. driver’s license).

In the gold booklet at the bottom of one of the pages it says that all candidates must provide SS identification, but nothing about birth certificates. Now, if you have your SSN memorized thats probably all they need, but I’m bringing a copy of the card just in case.
