<p>Which school would you recommend. I plan on majoring in business/communications.</p>
<p>These schools both offer the atmosphere I’m looking for, and OOS tuition is pretty inexpensive…so I’m thinking I should give them another look.</p>
<p>But I have a few reservations. I’ve hear West Virginia is really white trash, and that LSU is full of racist hicks. I know these are stereotypes, but can someone please dispel these rumors?</p>

<p>Why wouldn’t you go to one of the California State Universities, any one of which (even Chico) is better than those schools?</p>
<p>Because most of the Cal State schools are very untraditional. There is no campus culture, a complete lack of D1 sports and school spirit, there are tons of adult students (25+ yrs old), commuter school, not so good reputation in California, and just not the kind of vibe I’m looking for.</p>
<p>That said, I find San Diego State and Cal Poly to be great Cal State schools…However, of those two, I’m only applying to SDSU.</p>

<p>WSU, UWash come immediately to mind. Are admissions standards an issue? My brother used to teach at LSU Shreveport–and they admit 100% of applicants.</p>
<p>This is a silly, insulting question. Both colleges are huge, flagship state universities. They both have pockets of excellence and pockets of mediocrity in their faculties, just like any other large university, and they both have a wide range of students, including kids who are going to take over the world and kids who are never going to get it together to finish college.</p>
<p>My firm had an intern this summer who had a BA and MA from LSU, and who grew up near Baton Rouge (i.e., something of a hick). You couldn’t ask for a smarter, more engaging, more ambitious person. Not racist at all. She just had a ton on the ball. If LSU is full of women like that, it could well be paradise on Earth. I suspect it isn’t, completely, but I doubt she was unique there, either.</p>

<p>As a lifetime resident of the south I can tell you that people will pick up on your preconcieved notions of the population pretty quickly and it will not be appreciated.</p>
<p>My husband is a graduate of WVU, summa cum laude, and is neither racist or a hick. Frankly, I think you should just concentrate on your California picks and the Florida one. Definately no beaches in West Virginia and the winters are snowy and cold.</p>

<p>My advice, stay in California. Your narrow mindedness will not be appreciated in most of the remaining 49 states.</p>

<p>Huh!? If that’s the case, I sure know a lot of smart “rejects” that attend MSU and boatloads of highly-successful “rejects” who go on to become wealthy and/or famous alums. You’re getting bad advise, dude.</p>
<p>SoCal, MSU has about the same admissions as Indiana, Purdue, and Iowa. The SAT ranges for OSU, Penn State, and Minnesota are also similar. There is no real Big Ten reject school to be honest, and for the most part if you get into one of the following schools you will get into the other. Northwestern, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Illinois are more selective, with Michigan and Northwestern being much more selective.</p>
