Western Michigan U

Does anyone have any opinions on this school? I heard they give OOS students who have above a 3.0 and 1020 SAT (M/V) a 6 grand a year scholarship? My daughter has a 3.4 and a 1040 M/V…Is she likely to be accepted and if so will she be likely to get this award bc out of state? I never heard of the school before and have not been able to find much info on it.

As a life long resident of Michigan, I only know a few things about Western Michigan University. It’s located in Kalamazoo, Michigan, which is known to many as a college town. I wouldn’t attend the school myself, although many have interest in the school.
In case you didn’t know:

Also never heard of that oos scholarship that you mention.

I am a high school senior and a lifelong resident of Michigan. At my high school, Western isn’t considered that “great” of a college academically. It seems be known more for partying. I haven’t heard about the out of state scholarship you mentioned, but I’m sure your daughter would receive some type of scholarship based on her stats (admission isn’t very competitve).

Thanks for the info…Unfortunately she is just an average B+ student and it seems going out of state has left her with limited options…a lot of the public schools have been flooded with in staters due to the economy and she wants badly to get out of PA. I was looking for schools that give decent aid bc I cannot afford 40K a year at some of these private schools…but her stats arent high enough for most schools unfortuately anymore…If she gets in we will certainly visit the school and see if its somewhere she can see herself…If she gets this aid the tuition will be somewhere around 12K I guess which seems like a bargain in this day and age…

i applied as there as a mega safety just in case the universive conspired against me and i got rejected every where else. I go to a competitive private school so among our student body it is known as Wastern. It isnt competitive and I regret applying as I just got into my dream school. There goes my $35. I would say the third best school in Michigan (1. UMich 2. Michigan State) is Grand Valley State University I d look into it much better reputation.

I’ve lived most of my life in Michigan. WMU is considered a notch below Michigan State, but it’s still very respectable. It’s considered to be a notch above Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan. Campus and city are quite safe.

+1 on grand valley state - not too hard to get into, but a pretty smart student body and it’s well respected within Michigan - more so than western

In my opinion, Wayne State University and Oakland University in the Detroit area are more respected that GVSU.
