Hi,
My kid is currently in freshman year and got accepted to both of these summer programs. He has a strong interest in pursuing a career in business related field.
Looking for your advice/opinions on either of the programs as uncertain which one would be better for his overall learning and growth in his area of interest.
Also, does anyone know how selective these programs are?
Thank you
How expensive are these programs? These types of programs are generally revenue generating programs for the schools and instructors involved. Don’t expect paid for programs boosting your kid’s college application much, if any.
If your kid is interested in business related topics, I suspect there are more cost effective ways to learn about these areas locally. There is plenty of time and opportunity to learn about business theory in college and on the job.
IMO, your kid will get to understand business better by working a blue collar job in the summer (retail, restaurant, etc…) and being forced to live/play within a budget. FWIW, when my kid interviewed for IB and consulting internships in college, his working as a busboy was a bigger plus than any summer enrichment program or shadowing could have been. It showed willingness to roll up his sleeves, take direction and work to a schedule. He has kept that job on his LinkedIn profile. I also think working these types of jobs gives you a better appreciation of the way most Americans live and struggle.
