I really want to go to Wharton to pursue my passion for music alongside an interest in business. How much would a 2250 help my shot? I definitely gotta nail my essays! Also looking at Stern, Berkeley, CMU, PSU Honors etc. Open to any advice/constructive criticism :)

You absolutely need to take mathII for any shot at Wharton. About half the class has 800 on that test.

A 2200 puts you in the game. You need to shoot for minimum 750 math, very important at W.

I just figured the curve would negate the importance of taking the Math II… I never really took a formal Trig class, so I wanted to take Math I instead. I emailed my regional admisions officer and she said that they generally see more II tests based on subject material but didnt say that they prefer one over the other. idk just throwing that out there.

What is the curve? You need to take what admissions officers say with a grain of salt. It may not be REQUIRED to take Math II, but when competing with thousands of students who did, you should reconsider your options.

I can assure you, without strong mathII, Wharton is highly unlikely to happen. The caveat being maybe if you have a hook. And even with a hook, proof of very strong math skills is essential because they won’t take anyone who may not do well. What math have you taken?

9th: Geometry
10th: Alg/Trig Honors but didnt go to deeply into trig
11th: Calc
12th: AP Calc

Ap Calc is highest level offered at school… dropped AP Calc AB a couple years ago. This is the most rigorous math course load available at the school.

The Math II Subject test is graded on a strong curve. You could get quite a few questions worng and still get an 800. That is why you see so many CC’ers with 800’s on it. The level one test has fewer questions on trigonometry but also grades on less of a/ no curve. So the questions are generally easier, but if you get one wrong, it will hurt more.

You have way more than enough preparation through Calc AB to take and ace Math Level II.

Just buy a review book and take a few practice tests.

While I agree the curve is way stronger for math II seeing that my classmate got an 800 on Math II but a 760 on Math I, the fact is that Math II covers more advanced content than Math I does. I would recommend taking the Math II if you already took AP Calc, seeing that most of the Math II content is covered in a precalc course, so you should score fine. If you know enough about trig to get through a calc class, you should know enough for the trig content on Math II.

ok, thanks guys. I already registered for the subject tests, but they said I can choose which tests to take on the day of the test. Ill just really brush up on my trig :P
