What?! 5 years of English in high school. Blasphemy!

So I talked to my counselor today and she said that I should have 5 years of english (what!)

I mean my stats aren’t that bad
-3.7 GPA
-SAT I math-610
CR-550
writing-560
(gonna retake and hopefully do better)

My first choice is Cal Poly SLO and i’m not even trying to major in engineering or arch—>I just want to major in biology.

btw I want to do early admissions…

So CC people what do you think 5years( 1 year being college course) or standard 4 years

Ge, I don’t think even the top tier schools require (recommend) that. Where is your GC coming from?

don’t really understand what you’re asking

That’s ■■■■■■■■. I’m a humanities person but I don’t even have 5 years of HS english.

You’re fine. Since the UCs don’t require 5 years, the Cal States can’t either. SHe is probably just stupid and thinks that you should go above and beyond the requirements which is 4 years of english.

It’s true that CalPoly “Desired” 5 year of English, shown on its website. I even talked in person to a staff in the admission office when visited the campus last summer. When asking how could a student achieve that with only 4 years of high school, I was told that one can take class in college or pick up 2nd writng class like journalism in a certain year. (However journalism is NOT a-g course in DD’s school) When I asked further how many applicants are doing that, I was told there’re competative students out there but wasn’t given a number.

Well, DD only have 4-years, let’s see what happen next March.

I doubt it’s done much, especially with Cal Poly students. A handful of humanities-oriented students might go for it, but I doubt that it’s par for the course.

yeah…i don’t really know if i’m going to, but if it helps me get in i just might

I think Cal Poly is trying to get students to get First Year Composition for freshman out of the way. This could help the college improve its 4-year and 6-year graduation rates. Presumably, this can easily be completed in a CC in the summer of the senior year or college freshman year (in case you flunk the Comp class in freshman year).

blaw- I totally forgot that I could take it during the summer, I was just thinking about spring. Though, I don’t know if I’m going want to spend my last high school summer taking classes…I think i’ll just tough it out and take 2 english classes during the spring

too bad yearbook doesn’t count as an extra english class, lol. It’s hardcore journalism, hahaha.
