S2 is studying in Glasgow this semester and one of his major areas of interest (both academically and otherwise) is the local music scene. We heard the news of the crash last night about ten minutes after it happened. Had no idea if S2 was at the bar or not – sent him emails and texts right away “Are you alright? Were you at the pub?” etc., etc, etc. NO RESPONSE until about an hour ago – one word “fine”. AAAARGH. Didn’t sleep much last night, spent most of the day following the story, it just kept getting worse and worse. MY KIDS DRIVE ME NUTS!!!

So sad. H and I are Scottish. Many of our friends are posting on fb about this. Glad to hear your son is safe.

Son lives about three blocks from the Clutha Bar – and Esperanza, the band that was playing is a very hot local Glasgow ska band, so I was really worried that he was there.

It sounds like Glasgow did it self proud. The pub was calm, people helped each other out of the building , and the biggest problem they had was the people trying to get back into the pub to help.

Very sad.

IMHO it sounds like when they lost control of the aircraft they tried to ditch into the river, but missed, and hit just about the worst place possible - a pub at 10.30pm on a Friday night
However, given that the rotors are reported to have stopped spinning mid-air, and there was no explosion, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that they had run out of fuel.

I’m glad to hear that your son is safe though
